I fuckin HATE(D) Mystery Science Theater.

BURN THE WITCH!

I overheard a kid in my high school library say that MadTV was way better than SNL. I laughed to myself and thought no fucking way... you have to be kidding me. They seemed to act like thinking MadTV was funnier/better than SNL was cool. It was odd.

You could cherry-pick eras and say there were definitely periods of time when MadTV in its prime was better than some of the worst of SNL, but I don't think there was ever a point at the same time when you could legit call MadTV better than the currently-airing SNL (and their claymation shorts trump any of that "Fun With Real Audio" bullshit that Smigel tries to pass off today).

Friends is my personal most hated, because of both how brutally unfunny it is, along with its shitty theme song and its inexplicable popularity.

OTOH, while nobody watched it, I hated Strip Mall very strongly. It was an awful Comedy Central original that was composed entirely of loathsome, unlikable characters, racial stereotypes, and was still boring as hell. I thought Son of the Beach was 100x better, and that seemed to be just a bunch of drunk interns trying to cram as many dick jokes as possible into 22 minutes.

If we're talking about shows that nobody remembers that I hate then The Pitts would be #1. It really steamed my clams for some reason.

I also hated The War At Home. If it's a Michael Rappaport starring vehicle that's not Special, then it earns my scorn.

I think I actually watched an episode or 2 of Strip Mall.

To be honest, I think I just hate Ricky Gervais.

So I'm NOT the only one.

Honestly, I've only just this Summer started watching and got into the US Office because Gervais made the UK version so annoying to me.

Aside from that, I'm drawing blanks, but Big Brother and The X Factor seem like obvious choices.

Louis Walsh is narrowly behind Gervais on the "needs to be punched hard in the face" queue.

The show also contained Hot Daughter and Nerdy Son with Gay Friend, so it was fun all around.

Smigel hasn't done a Fun With Real Audio in years

and its inexplicable popularity.

Friends' popularity isn't inexplicable at all. You just didn't like it.

Friends was so popular because it was an alternate reality New York. I mean no minorities and stuff, and that seems pretty appealing to a lot of people.

No it wasn't, it was supposed to be funny. The character of David Brent was supposed to be annoying. But it was essentially just Ricky Gervais playing himself, because he hasn't dropped that character since he did the show.

That doesn't change the concept that he was supposed to be annoying...and then was annoying.

Tim and Dawn don't work if Brent and Gareth aren't people who want to make you jump out of the window.

Also now that I think about it...he doesn't even play his other characters like that. In Extras he was the straightman for Pete's sake.

Yet in stand up (the bits that I have seen) and interviews and anything else I've seen he comes off as a smug arrogant self obbessed bastard that thinks he is loved by everyone.

Like David Brent.

The Office doesn't even work on the "cringe factor", shows like Alan Partridge or Peep Show did/do it much better.

I think it works on cringe-worthyness, but his very presence is obviously too frustrating to you.

On that note, I don't get the American version of The Office at all. I know it was essentially only designed for Americans to find funny, so that could be it.

edit: eurgh, what are you talking about? The Peep Show was bloody awful.

I could honestly only name one moment from UK The Office's entire run, which is that FUCKING dance that Gervais had to do at every FUCKING benefit concert he appeared at because he had no other FUCKING material. And what made it worse was him coming on and saying "I'm not going to do the dance, so stop asking" within 5 seconds and trying to pretend like he was some humble fellow who was too shy and modest to do the dance, but seeing as the crowd all wanted it, why not. Having spent 10 minutes goading people into light cheers for the dance.

...god that FUCKER annoys me.

I've followed a lot of his work and you're off the mark in many ways.

I've always been 50/50 on Seinfeld. I've watched it and gotten a few laughs per episode usually, but I didn't think it was anything special.

I haven't seen this, so I'm not going to comment on its quality, but it sounds like that was part of the routine. I think you missed something there.

Canadian Verne Gagne/Razateca, he is. I hope The Canadian contingent that secretly runs TSM doesn't kidnap me and reprogram me or anything for saying so.

Peep Show is awesome. Six series in and it's showing no signs of getting old.

...Well maybe some signs, but not major flashing ones.

You know what show I liked? People's Court. We need to have something like that here, where posters can take one another to court over petty grievances.

Arrested Development for me. Never laughed at one episode, and although I can tell it's a well made and well produced show, the hype that it gets from others (mostly white people that like cancelled and/or tv show with low ratings) makes it the worst for me.
