Seinfeld was a pathetic attempt at humour.
Oh my God. What is your idea of funny, Red Baron. What is your idea of good anything? You like Nickelback.
Canadian Verne Gagne/Razateca, he is. I hope The Canadian contingent that secretly runs TSM doesn't kidnap me and reprogram me or anything for saying so.

Speaking as part of the secret Canadian junta, no-we're not going to kidnap you. Red Barron is as you describe him.

And what made it worse was him coming on and saying "I'm not going to do the dance, so stop asking" within 5 seconds and trying to pretend like he was some humble fellow who was too shy and modest to do the dance, but seeing as the crowd all wanted it, why not. Having spent 10 minutes goading people into light cheers for the dance.

I haven't seen this, so I'm not going to comment on its quality, but it sounds like that was part of the routine. I think you missed something there.

Ricky Gervais @ concert for Diana

1:40 in. Death at 6:30ish.

People are more into the idea of the dance than I remember. Then again, everything else he tries to do gets shouts of "NOOO!", so maybe his hands were tied. Maybe improv isn't his thing. Still, you have to admire his commitment to being "put-out" at the idea of doing the dance, considering he WAS DOING IT WHEN HE WALKED OUT. I dunno. Still irresistably punchable to me.

CSI: New York, CSI: Miami, CSI: Las Vegas, Law and Order, Law and Order: Criminal Intent, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit, NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, Criminal Minds, Criminal Minds spin off that CBS are apparently planning...etc

Basically, most generic cop procedural shows (I'll give Numbers a pass because at least its trying something different.)I mean, I didn't used to hate these type of shows, but its all that's ever on anymore. Can't come up with an original idea? Just commission CSI: Burlington.

If you want to base your personal opinion of him on a bit where he had to stall for time because the next performers weren't ready, fine. Sure he kinda dropped the ball, but it's not a big deal. His UK shows were hilarious and on a much more down to earth level than their American counterparts. His new movie looks funny. He has some stand up specials which are pretty good as well. If you don't like his type of humor fine, but he's been the writer/director of some pretty intelligent output and it's not like he's Dane Cook or something. I'm just a sucker for cringe-worthy situational comedy. The type of stuff he has his characters go through on Extras and The Office is so awkward, and apparently only funny on TV. When I have those type of situations in real life they only end up being funny to me.

It's an irrational hatred, based on many things.

FWIW, I've seen clips of his stand-up and although I've never really sat through The Office or Extras enough to really judge fairly, I saw the Simpsons episode he helped write and appeared in. And I found neither remotely entertaining.

CSI in Vermont might actually be interesting. You'd only have one murder every two seasons to solve.

I hate Seinfeld too, but it's not because I'm Canadian. I just think there were a few really really funny episodes and the rest were annoying/unfunny.

But that's because you're Canadian.

Too much Red Green show for you.

Season 9 and some of the early episodes too, but I don't see how anyone can watch shows from Season 3 and 4 and not find it funny

I thought I was the only American who had ever heard of Red Green.

I was hoping I was the only American who had ever heard of Red Green.

Red Dwarf, on the other hand, was an awesome show.

I have an Uncle who loves Red Green. I've never seen it, so who am I to pass judgment?

I don't think MadTV was as bad as you guys are making it out to be. Don't get me wrong, it never reached the level of SNL (no matter what year you compared it to...okay maybe it was better than the 1994-95 season of SNL), but I think it had some funny sketches and actors. Phil LaMarr, Artie Lange and David Herman were on the show during its early years, and they always made me laugh in everything they appeared in! Orlando Jones and Arie Spears also made me laugh out loud. Hell, even Will Sasso made me laugh whenever he did his Kenny Rogers impression. His Randy Newman and Elvis Presley impressions cracked me up too, I must admit.

I guess this is the perfect time to say that I've probably seen more episodes of MadTV then everybody on this board combined. So, I think that it's safe to say that even though MadTV had it's share of good stuff, it wasn't perfect. I will be the first to tell you that the show was VERY hit-or-miss, with alot of episodes being only worth a couple of chuckles. In fact, I gave up on the show after the 10th season. No real reason, I just didn't feel like watching it anymore. I did catch the series finale, and I was a little bit bummed, mostly because the show debuted when I was 8-years-old, so it was like a piece of my childhood was gone.

So, to sum it up: was MadTV as good as Saturday Night Live? No. Was MadTV half-way decent at times? I think so. I always enjoyed their parodies of 70's B-movies, educational films from the 1950's, and commercials.

When I started high school in the fall of 1995, a lot of people were calling MadTV better. That was probably true at the time ("the time" being after only one or two episodes of MadTV had aired while no one knew who the hell Will Ferrell was).

Mad TV would make regular sketches out of its worst characters... I think it's worse than I remember it. And I remember it poorly.

Pretty much. Although I will second the nominations for The Hills and that Super Sweet Sixteen or whatever the fuck it's called. Really anything that tries to appeal to the "teenage and brainless" demographic. American Idol as well.

I watched and really liked the first season of MadTV, and still liked but not as much the second season, then quit watching all together. So I have fond memories of the first two seasons, but I also was in junior high and have no idea if they still hold up today. The claymation Rudolph thing from season one still owns all though.

Mad TV was fun with the original cast, but after a few years of changes it got pretty bad.

If there is anything good that can be said about "MadTV", it would be the "Planet With Some Apes In It" sketch was amusing.

That hurt to admit.
