There's an alternative version of events where Martel and Tito are kept together until around WM 7 (They pretty much had the whole heel team roster to feud with yet - Powers of Pain, Brain Busters, Rougeaus, Honky and Valentine, Power and Glory, Orient Express, Twin Towers, etc and Martel is given a big heel push at a time where the roster is clearing out and the upward mobility is much better.
He and Bret have to be roughly the same age.
He can work Tito at Summerslam/SSeries 1st.... then be in the mix with Piper/Bret.... maybe even get hot enough to work a bit with Savage after Mania 8. He and Bossman can give each other something to do after WM 8 if nothing else in the upper mid-card and maybe the Tatanka feud can mean even more if Martel isn't just a tired gimmick guy who needs a fresh coat of paint like Martel was by his 3rd year in as the Model.
Babyface Owen vs Martel sounds great in my head as well in the lead up to WM 9. Maybe even a viable ladder to get Martel some house show title matches in Bret's first run as champ.
Martel being appalled by the slovenly Duggan is even a fresh mid-card match (we never got?). A bit of a take off of the Dibiase/Duggan "Best dressed man" angle of 84 for Watts.
You might even get some good matches out of Zombie Taker if they do some goofy angle where Martel infiltrates the Funeral Parlor set and yells at Bearer for it reeking of death, and then spraying the Arrogance all over the set.
The Razor and Kid in 93/94 is more fresh meat for Martel, who in this world means a little more and helps elevate those guys.
