Was this really sold as an Rotunda retirement "show"? I'm not even sure he ever made it to Japan in 83-85 when he was being hyped as a future NWA title contender, etc.
When is the US Express vs Volkoff/Sheik RAW match (Yes I could google but who knows where our conversations could go on here)?
He had a solid run in Japan starting in 2000 which is probably why it happened over there.

'97 Rotunda appearances in Japan start popping up. I think I remember reading Observers saying Mike wasn't getting enough matches in WCW and wanted to get work with New Japan.

Sort of funny you brought that up. Yesterday or today was the anniversary of the Wrestling Album being released, which would be the reason most people know/remember this fact. Windham would have left WWF almost the same time this was released.

He miraculously quit drinking a few years ago. Brian Myers talked about it on his podcast. If he makes appearances, he just dumps the beer out or in other people’s mouths.
He definitely quit after 2016-17 though cause a comedy acquaintance booker him to do a storytelling show and he was shithouse drunk and going on wacky pro Trump rants. I saw him on a GCW show in 2018 where he caned Stokely Hathaway and Wheeler Yuta. I couldn’t notice whether or not he was actually drinking then. He did look relatively well for what you’d expect Sandman to look like in 2018 so maybe he had already quit.

As a lil' kid I thought that was the coolest Survivor Series team ever. Hogan was my fave but his team felt dorky by comparison.
Really stupid in hindsight to not get Kerry to wear a Tornado face paint job to go with the other guys.
