I never seem to learn my lesson with ordering online from BestBuy for release day. Shipping of my order is delayed due to some error with their billing system - I think they fucked up and tried to charge it to another persons account, as when I logged in to check the status it had someone else's name and address!

Just picked it up in-person at a local shop. Good thing I have the afternoon off, too! :D

Playing as Gangrel against X-Pac right now. Gotta say IGN was way off on the crowd noise. I'm having a pretty sweet back an forth match and the crowd seems really into it. I just did an Impaler DDT onto a chair and they lost their shit over it!

I don't see why people (not specifically you, Corey, your quote just reminded me) act like the gameplay in these games is some huge WCW Thunder like atrocity. They play fine, IMO, even with the very few glitches I've experienced. If you want a pure wrestling sim, and something less arcadey, stick to imported puro games for PS2, I guess. Then again, I do see most of these comments at FireProClub, so I shouldn't be surprised. Frankly, if this plays like WWE12 and has the online fixed, then I'll be happy, as I felt that that was the only huge thing that was holding back last year's game.
I'd be fine if the gameplay itself wasn't greatly modified from SVR '07, personally. My favorite entry thus far has been SVR '06, but '07 added the "Ultimate Control" grapples, and you could up the speed enough with the options given. The entire series took a nosedive with '08 and they haven't even come close to touching what they used to be.

It's not that people want a perfect wrestling sim like Fire Pro (hell, I think those games are overrated as all fuck, personally), it's more that THQ/Yukes has already done better in the past. SYM and HCTP were very well received and SVR '06 wasn't seen as a huge detriment to the series, but everything after '08 has just been more of the same with vast limitations on what you can actually do.

Of course, there's also the "Aki did it better with rappers" aspect, too.

Totally agreed, Laz.

I don't buy them every year, but I bought 12, which I regret. It was fun for a while, but if it wasn't so broken, I'd have gotten more use out of it. Probably going to pass on 13, at least at full price.

I dunno, I find this grapple system on par with HCTP at the very least (25 front grapples not including struggle submissions and weight detection attacks). I like that you can't go for certain moves in this game unless your opponent is in a groggy state.

The NM system feels over rated at this point. It was great back then, but this system feels like its taken NM & HCTP and come up with a great hybrid - the best of both, IMO.

At the versus screen there is also an option to have a normal, quick or epic match. I am not sure what variables it adjusts just yet but so far it's pretty sweet. I had an "epic" match with AE Taker vs Austin that seemed to go on for a long time with a ton of momentum shifts between us both. We were both bleeding like faucets by the end and Austin was able to beat me after a third Stunner. It was pretty crazy.

Haven't tried online yet, though... I'm almost afraid. >_>

If you are on the fence about it, it's probably always best to wait for a sale or get it with some trade in credit. That being said, if you do go for it hopefully you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I still had a lot of fun in Universe last year and it sounds like it's even better this year, so I figure I'll be a-ok.

Universe is pretty sweet, so far, Venk. You can pretty much do whatever the hell you want in it. Some of the set up options aren't detailed in the help menu so there is some trial and error, but its working out great for me so far. Running a single show a week of 90's Raw!

I just bought it because I had to run an errand near best buy. I know I'll love attitude era mode so that's cool. I've bought games for far less reasons lol.

I laughed my ass off when I got to One Night Only in Attitude Era mode. I hope the historical objective is "MAKE SURE BULLDOG'S SISTER DIES OF CANCER UNHAPPY"

Do the storylines in universe make sense?
So far, so good. Heyman is behind them so I'd hope they do. You can also turn off certain types of stories if you don't want them happening (ie: random teams forming or heel turns, etc).

The biggest frustration I had last year (and from one of those interviews and what you just said, I believe it was resolved) was I would create custom stables or teams, then simulate a few months of time and things had gone to hell.

how do you kick out? it says hold, do i need to release A when it is in the green area? I am stuck on Shawn Michael vs British Bulldog in Attitude Era mode. I'm essentially kicking ass then I get pinned and cant kick out.

Attitude era is as fun as advertised. Especially if you were watching back then. It's quite the trip.

Put a champion in the match, I assume. "Championship Match?" - hit yes, then select eligible championships. That's how you did it in WWE 12 anyway.

How do I do a title match in universe?

It's buried in there, you have to edit the match "freely" and go to Specialty and then Title Match. I thought they removed the option at first until someone else told me where to look.

I forget, did they say you can freely edit matches in Universe mode without exiting the show before every match this year?

I think they did, I haven't tried it yet though, I've been exiting each time out of habit. Well try the next match thing this time and let you know.
