I feel like those two had already shed and transcended the Lucha label and were at the absolute worst upper midcard talents that the audience was very familiar with from their WCW stints. While not exactly the same, I feel Penta could be placed in that category rather than grouped with Kalisto, Mistico, etc. I think Penta will be fine because he has impact moves and not just crazy arm drags and flips. That is not me disparaging the work of other Lucha wrestlers we have seen, that is me praising Penta for fitting in with a modern style of striking and high impact. He’ll be fine.It will certainly be interesting to see how Penta works in WWE, because their track record with lucha talent is abysmal (beyond Rey and Eddie, of course).
I'm interested to see what (if anything) of his ring work changes. I really liked Penta ten years ago and he has moments still but the taunt heavy stalling BS isn't really my thing and he's gotten to rely way too heavily on it.I feel like those two had already shed and transcended the Lucha label and were at the absolute worst upper midcard talents that the audience was very familiar with from their WCW stints. And he's right. When Penta started breaking through to the US indies he was a sight to behold. Then he leaned wayyyyyy too far into the taunting shit and I've learned to actively avoid most of his work.I remember a few years ago, I think it was La Parka who gave an interview expressing frustration that Penta has relied too heavily on his taunts and charisma and didn't focus enough on his ring work and if he did, he'd be one of the biggest stars in the world. Always found that interesting.
I've mostly given up on the main roster but still watch NXT and honestly, Booker is making me reconsider that choice. He's never been good but I think over the last month or so he's gotten worse than he was.WWE's commentary style is the number 1 reason I can't sit through their shows. I was never a fan of Graves but he is so much better than Pat it isn't even funny. Every time I listen to Cole and Pat I just think "what a pair of dorks". They make everything less cool.
They still have internal times and schedules set with unions and workers so they still like to hit those times without having to pay overtime for local unions which can be very pricey especially in bigger markets, so while they are fluid in time allotment they still had an internal time they want to hit.One more thing on the Penta debut: One of the news sites said his segment ran long and some wrestlers were pissed because stuff had to be cut from the show as a result.
This has to be bullshit, right? They ended at 10:30, and one of the big benefits of streaming was that the shows weren’t going to be confined to a network schedule. If the Penta match and interview went a few minutes long, who cares?
