The endgame is Fenix coming in so they can team up so everything until then isn't as big a deal, I guess.

I find Penta and Fenix to be so much more interesting apart. I think they bring out the worst in each other as a team.

Smackdown Six is great and all but they had something special that like two weeks where Rey and Edge were the top faces against the Canadian Horsemen before they traded Jericho to Raw.

It will certainly be interesting to see how Penta works in WWE, because their track record with lucha talent is abysmal (beyond Rey and Eddie, of course).
I feel like those two had already shed and transcended the Lucha label and were at the absolute worst upper midcard talents that the audience was very familiar with from their WCW stints. While not exactly the same, I feel Penta could be placed in that category rather than grouped with Kalisto, Mistico, etc. I think Penta will be fine because he has impact moves and not just crazy arm drags and flips. That is not me disparaging the work of other Lucha wrestlers we have seen, that is me praising Penta for fitting in with a modern style of striking and high impact. He’ll be fine.

WWE has SNME shows booked for May 24 and July 12. And yes, the latter is the same night as All In.

DON is usually on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend, so AEW can dodge WWE there (barely).

I’m curious of what the counter is, if there is one at all. With WWE no longer reliant on PPV, it’s not like AEW could put a Clash of the Champions-like card on free TV to mess with a WM buyrate.

I'm interested to see what (if anything) of his ring work changes. I really liked Penta ten years ago and he has moments still but the taunt heavy stalling BS isn't really my thing and he's gotten to rely way too heavily on it.

I remember a few years ago, I think it was La Parka who gave an interview expressing frustration that Penta has relied too heavily on his taunts and charisma and didn't focus enough on his ring work and if he did, he'd be one of the biggest stars in the world. Always found that interesting.

And he's right. When Penta started breaking through to the US indies he was a sight to behold. Then he leaned wayyyyyy too far into the taunting shit and I've learned to actively avoid most of his work.

Well, crowd was hot for Penta's debut. He pretty much got to do all his signature spots and this was probably his longest TV match in years.

I feel kinda bad for Graves. The guy has been bounced around between shows and roles, going from color commentator to play-by-play and back, always doing a good job. Meanwhile, not even 10 months ago, Cole was doing interviews touting Graves as the next voice of WWE. Now, through no fault of his own, he can’t even get on either of the company’s two main shows. I don’t blame him for being frustrated.

WWE's commentary style is the number 1 reason I can't sit through their shows. I was never a fan of Graves but he is so much better than Pat it isn't even funny. Every time I listen to Cole and Pat I just think "what a pair of dorks". They make everything less cool.

I've mostly given up on the main roster but still watch NXT and honestly, Booker is making me reconsider that choice. He's never been good but I think over the last month or so he's gotten worse than he was.

I tuned in just to checkout Penta’s debut so glad it was on early. Made him look like a star. I was surprised how good his English promo was. Can’t recall any significant promo from him in AEW (haven’t seen his other work).

Penta is a guy that AEW should have built around that first year, and definitely during the pandemic. Like he should've been world title adjacent. If he breaks out in WWE, I'll be very happy.

Penta’s debut was a home run. I’m very interested to see if they keep the momentum.

On a separate note, the Corey Graves thing from this morning has gotten weird. After his initial tweet expressing his frustration, he had another one saying he would talk more about it on NXT. This afternoon, Fightful reported he was off the show and spotted leaving Orlando.

My senses tell me this is a work to get him into a match eventually, but who knows.

Graves was so much better without Vince in his ear, but was still just kinda there. His voice is just a bad commentator voice. Bring back Byte This and let him loose.

McAffee is wretched and actively ruins shows though.

I'm actually surprised Penta's debut was as structured as it was, and I'm happy with it. A solid 3.5* match that showed enough of what he's capable of without overexposing him and leaving plenty of room (and desire) to see more.

Color me surprised that he sold the leg the whole time, too. To the point where even his run before the topé con hilo had a little limp in it.

Gable is a guy who NEEEEEEEDS a run in Japan. He's one of the only talents on the regular roster who seems to understand that pro wrestling is supposed to look like it's a competition.

Gable needs a change of scenery in general. He gets it, he just needs somewhere he can actually be properly recognized.

One more thing on the Penta debut: One of the news sites said his segment ran long and some wrestlers were pissed because stuff had to be cut from the show as a result.

This has to be bullshit, right? They ended at 10:30, and one of the big benefits of streaming was that the shows weren’t going to be confined to a network schedule. If the Penta match and interview went a few minutes long, who cares?

If they're pissed, they're stupid. I haven't seen this much buzz for debut since the NXT pillaging like ten years ago

They still have internal times and schedules set with unions and workers so they still like to hit those times without having to pay overtime for local unions which can be very pricey especially in bigger markets, so while they are fluid in time allotment they still had an internal time they want to hit.

The company largely probably isn’t too concerned but talent will always be upset at reduced or cut times, and if they aren’t then they shouldn’t be in the business.
