I’m kind of surprised/relieved WWE hasn’t done this (…yet).

Let’s be real though…should Flair have the World Title reigns record at this point? I feel like the fact that AEW mentioned him as a 21 time World Champion is Naitch trying to make sure WWE doesn’t try and break his record.

Although I guess apparently the 16 time is an underestimate. Hopefully @BruiserBrody reads this the next time he is crapping on the job.
The bad part is even after AEW used the 21 number, headlines still came out to explain it is really 22.

To keep my AWA gimmick in tact (especially in a modern wrestling thread) I will say this reminds me of Slamboree 93 when Solie talks AWA reigns for inductee Verne "Verne says 9, my records say 13"
Even 11 year old me was like "Verne wants a smaller number?"

I'm sure the change is due to the "Omaha World title" that was basically the AWA's own mini brand split off. It's been years since I dug into the nuts and bolts of why Omaha, Nebraska needed its own World title aside from the AWA World title.

I think the first Cena-Orton match ever was the main event of the Raw episode the night after Eddie Guerrero died in 2005. I remember thinking at the time that it was nuts that even though it was a tribute episode where they weren’t advancing any storylines, it was kind of nuts they would give that match away with zero buildup. It ended up being very short and had a non-finish.

Other random Cena-Orton memory I have is the year they had a big staredown in the middle of a Rumble and it was presented as a huge moment like Warrior-Hogan at 90. The problem was they kept waiting for the crowd to go nuts, and it just…never happened. Super awkward.

In a lot of ways, I feel like WWE management wanted the Cena-Orton rivalry to be what Cena-Punk actually was, but it just never got there.

I might be Mandela Effecting the timeline but I always associate the start of their onscreen rivalry with the start of the TV PG era. They’re not bad opponents but it always felt very bland, overproduced and watered down.

I think those two could be a lot more fun against each other if they were allowed to go TV 14. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that most great Orton moments are pre ‘08.

Iirc, it was even more awkward because they did it like 3 or 4 times in the same Rumble, and the crowd was dead every time.

The Rock has joined TKO as a board member. This includes full rights to the name as well.

Hardly a surprise given his reach with the company and those involved but certainly is interesting news on top of the Netflix deal this morning.

Good move. He was clearly doing his best but he wasn’t particularly good or interesting.

Edit: McAfee is promoting WWE hard this morning including bringing Nick Khan on his show so one might think to connect the dots and see if TKO put a sweetener in for Pat to come back to SD.

If they kept him as a backstage interviewer and/or preshow host, he’d have been fine. Making him a lead play-by-play guy was just never going to work.

Also: Do we know how involved Cole is with announcer hires? He’s in charge of the announcers, right? Because the other play-by-play position for whatever show Cole is not on has been pretty much been a revolving door for the past 10-15 years. Some of that was Vince idiosyncrasies about what he wants, sure, but at some point, it’s fair to wonder why they haven’t been able solve that 2nd PBP position while Cole chugs along unabated.

909 got me to watch the punk/cody promo from Raw and after not watching a WWE Long Promo in a while I have to say....it's not doing anything for me. It feels like going back to watching a sitcom with a laugh track sort of. There's a lot of long pauses and shit to draw it out longer and longer. It just doesn't feel natural at all.

My friend sent it to me saying how good it was. It's just not for me.

Good point. That Rock joining the TKO board thing probably happened on the spur of the moment.
I mean, she's only in WWE because of who her dad is. I doubt the creative was designed just for this to happen at the same time.

And she's really not good in the ring so it's probably the best use of her if you must use her

Kevin Patrick officially released from WWE and will be replaced with Michael Cole for the time being.

I wouldn’t be shocked if Nick Khan is trying to get another “name” to bring to the company. Or maybe it’ll just be Vic Joseph or someone named Travis Randolph or something preposterously generic.

Big E also suggested a new gimmick concept to bring to WrestleMania.

MEATY MEN INVITATIONAL.

A wide ranging field of the absolute MEATIEST MEN ON EARTH MEAT SMACKING EACH OTHER FOR MEAT SUPREMACY.

Finally something that can drag @cobainwasmurdered cold dead aew loving heart back to the WWE.

If Nick Khan doesn’t get at least 3 million dollars from Arby’s to sponsor this, he has undone all the good things he’s done to the financial success of the company.

Does Jason Kelce have any interest in pro wrestling?

Googling…

By God!
(He is talking about amateur wrestling so he might be one of those geeks who hates the fake stuff but I am sure Nick will put in a call to find out.)

I would much rather watch Hogan than Brock.
