WWF New Generation Thread III

The gag needed to be that Taker had no reflection in the mirror and that stymied Doink’s plan.

The Doinks start doing their mirror spots when suddenly Taker rises to his feet and starts using his hands to telekinetically control them, making them slap each other and bonk their heads together and try to gouge their own eyes out before he picks real Doink up for the tombstone and the doppelganger passes out and does a faceplant as soon as the original is dropped on his head.

They do the mirror bit over Taker's body. Taker sits up, they freak out and Borne runs away while Taker kills the other one so that way Taker wins but never pins the right Doink.

Bored and rebooking Wrestlemania 9 because why not.

Bret/Savage
Flair/Perfect (Flair would've hung on if Vince had asked, I think)
Taker/Doink
Money Inc/Mega Maniacs
Shawn/Tatanka
Steiners/Headshrinkers
Crush/Luger
Yokozuna/Backlund

I've said it before but whoever told Gonzalez to sell, let alone leave his feet, is a fucking idiot who squandered so much money.

Jorge proved on Baywatch he had true acting chops. You telling me he couldn’t have found a spot on Hercules or Xena?

Evil Martin Luther King...evil Cupid...evil St Patrick, evil Easter Bunny, the list goes on and on

Brian Soloman and Joe Mariotta (Sp?) did a pod on WM 9 King Kamala turned me on to. They discussed how Bret should have gotten the long run with the belt from late 92-96, with a few hiccups in between. For whatever reason, this made me think about a way to actually SKIP Bret's 95 title win and build to Shawn vs Diesel 2 at Mania 13 for the boyhood dream finale.

I'm kind of spitballin' so I'm open to ideas. I guess you still do Nash vs Bret at Survivor Series as face vs face, but maybe Nash survives a grueling Sharpshooter by making it to the ropes. In a desperate bid to save his title now that he's wounded, Nash cracks Bret with plunder AND power bombs him through a table. Bret still manages to kick out. Enraged Nash grabs a chair and murders Bret with a bunch of chair shots to his back and legs. The match is thrown out and Diesel has his hard edge back.

Nash skirts a rematch at the Dec IYH, stating he left Hart for dead, so he's got nothing left to prove. This brings Taker out.
Taker vs Nash at IYH ends with Bret attacking Nash, costing Taker the win. Shawn runs in to help his "friend" and Nash lays him out when Shawn turns his back.

Rumble is Nash vs Bret in a cage. Roddy Piper is made the special enforcer outside the cage to keep Shawn, Taker and anyone else at bay. He holds the key. Shawn comes down but Piper manages to keep him at bay and the agents convince him to go to the back and prep for the Rumble.
Taker bypasses Piper by rising from a hole in the ring and drags Bret to Hell. Nash walks out meekly as a bewildered Piper tries to comprehend witnessing Bret's fate.
Shawn wins the Rumble.

Monsoon is murdered by Vader the next night and Piper is named interim Prez.

IYH Feb is Nash vs Taker. Piper wants chaos since these guys can't stop interfering anyway and makes Number 1 contender Shawn the ref.
Bret comes down. Bearer tries to help his charge and smacks Bret with the urn. Hart shakes it off and beats on Bearer. Taker attacks Bret. Shawn tries to restore order but Nash takes advantage and cheap shots Shawn with a chair.
Taker returns to the ring as officials and Piper wrangle Bret to the back. Shawn tries to superkick Nash, but he manages to pull Taker in the way. Nash powerbombs Taker twice. Then on the third he flips Shawn off before hitting the move. Taker eats the pin as Shawn reluctantly counts the fall. Taker Zombie sits up and stares at Shawn and Nash before deciding to go murder Bret instead in the aisle.
Shawn and Nash close the PPV being pulled apart by Fatu, Horowitz, the Gunns, Aldo and anyone else who can aid in the melee.

So Piper makes Shawn vs Diesel NHB for Mania.
Bret vs Taker (Bret does the honors as he bows out to seek out Lonesome Dove and or a WCW deal)

--
I was thinking of somehow working in the roster turnover and having Nash or Shawn take out Tatanka, Sid, Mabel, Hakushi, etc as they leave the company but it's a little harder to have Shawn do it unless they give him a harder edge. Plus injuring guys is heelish.

Jose Lothario could certainly be on Nash's hitlist on the road to Mania. Maybe he goes to San Antonio and invades Jose's gym. With Shawn gone doing a charity event, Jose gets murked.

The real problem with Bret's run was how he lost it, not that he lost it. If anything a better argument is for a longer uninterrupted Yokozuna run, so Bret getting the win back is huge. Bret beats Savage at Wrestlemania, loses to Yokozuna on Raw (story is easy enough: biggest challenge for the guy always defending against anyone but the schedule has destroyed him too much, so he gets Knightfall'd), and you forgo all the Hogan bullshit unless you trick him into losing to Yoko at KOTR or Summerslam.

I don't see any feasible way Diesel can keep the title longer without killing the company. That said, you wanna run Diesel/Shawn 2 with roles reversed at WM12 and the final Bret/Owen i quit match or something as a double main event, I'm in.

Bullshit alternate WM12 card:

Shawn/Diesel for the WWF title
Bret/Owen submission match of some kind
Taker/Goldust with Piper as ref for the IC title
Razor/Kid in a $10000 ladder match
HHH/Warrior
Austin/Savio
Godwinns/Bodydonnas
Yokozuna and Ahmed/Vader and Bulldog

Man those top two are way better than what we got, I’d be down with that. Keep the backlot brawl as it is, and make Taker vs. Razor in a casket match. You can even do a spot where there’s a hole in it, and after Razor gets dumped in there, there’s some pyro or effects or whatever the fuck that goes off at the casket, and taker opens it and all that’s left are the gold chains.

Austin is freshly rid of Dibiase and gets a slight rub going over the kid in a “cat and mouse” type match.

A long Bruno or Backlund type run for Bret Hart sounds like an improvement on real life. It would've reversed the main event/undercard dynamics with him on top but, with Razor, Nash, HBK, Luger, Kid, Bulldog, Yoko, Taker, cartoon characters, and guys like Foley, Austin, etc cycling in, the undercard could still be strong while Bret has consistent classics on top.

Another problem for Nash was starting the In Your House series during his reign. He was never going to be Hogan or Sammartino but his run may have been less of a flop if he could've had 2 or 3 good ppv mains instead of expected to headline 9 or 10 ppvs with opponents that often didn't click. Bret clicked with everyone so it would've been better to rollout IYH with him as champ.

The problem with a Bret extended run is that if business stays soft in 93 and 94 (which it was even with Bret on top) then by 95 Vince is over it and Hart is either shunted down the card anyway by 95 or flat out cuts ties and heads to Japan or WCW.

There is a chance with no Hogan 93 title run, Vince works out a deal to bring him in 95 since he was at least in talks with Hogan and Warrior for years during this time frame. (Warrior got offers as late as 98 IIRC) 93 at least left a bad taste in Vince's mouth and he was able to get Hulkamania out of his system for a bit.

Long time ---Like early 80s longtime....NE Wisco broadcaster John Maino was talking to a local indy guy on his radio show this week and mentioned he played high school FB vs Mike Shaw in upper Michigan...

Here is Shaw wearing 74

Well, yeah, Vince McMahon was going to do something dumb inevitably. But I prefer this fantasy scenario with Bret getting a Bruno run to the irl 1993-96 (or whatever way McMahon would've wrecked it anyway mid-hissy fit).

The attitude era needed macho man more than anyone else. Of all the 80s boom stars, he would be the most successful in that era.
That goes without saying but I do think a clean-ish and healthy (lol I know) Jake still works in that era as well and to a far lesser extent, a motivated Duggan probably works too.

Warrior doesn't last three meetings with Russo let alone a month of TV. The stories would be better than any actual TV. I feel like if there's one guy who could get Russo and Cornette on the same side, it's Warrior, and it'd be hilarious.

Duggan would a great fit and probably has a decent resurrection in the hardcore division. I'd prefer ECW Duggan, personally.

The only reason I didn't keep the backlot brawl was because I couldn't decide if I'd prefer a straight singles Shawn/Diesel match or the street fight at this show. If it's a street fight, it doesn't make a lot of sense having the backlot if only because it's totally unfair to Piper/Goldust. I figure Taker interrupting Goldust's run with Piper being a factor and getting a proper blowoff with Razor and Waltman makes more sense considering how things were going. But eh, no wrong answers.

Warrior vs Kane feels like the only feud that works for him.
He'd already done the Goldust and Vader stuff in 96. HHH hates him so DX cross over stuff is going to be a messy political battle. Austin isn't going near him with his bad neck.
Foley would probably bump like a mad man to make the matches watchable.
Gangrel fits but Warrior would murder him and it wouldn't draw shit.
Warrior being vaguely or not so vaguely racist vs the Boricuas????
Total Nostalgia vibes by putting Warrior with the New Look LOD ASAP for six mans vs DOA after Mania 14? Hell, Warrior could even be the catalyst for Hawk and Animal ending their spat that was teased before they got the new gimmick.
Warrior vs the Parade of Human Oddities while they are still heels.
Warrior accidentally becomes a heel by railing against the pornographer Val Venis?
Once the Ministry comes around he'd have a whole bunch of goofs to have minus 2 star matches with.

Jake in '99 as a biker cult leader constantly dressed in dusters and leather jackets would own. He has a stable of some combination of Edge/Christian/Hawk/Bradshaw/Bart Gunn/Holly/Farooq/Waltman plus Luna.

But do we get Bret/Owen during the Hartfall arc?

You can build that almost the same way. The perfect ending to the Yokozuna part of the Bret story always was Owen staring at him during the celebration.
