Yep. I'm with that statement. It's good but not spectacular.

I like "Hanging from a Hit"... the entire part sung from the woman's perspective is pretty stellar. A lot of the songs are simply good without being memorable, the sort of album I won't listen to for years.

Do not like.

Hope the album has anything equivalent to "Lovers in Japan"... if I'm going to listen to Coldplay I prefer it to be of that variety. Do people like "Yellow"? I don't know what the consensus is on that... ten years later and I find that I kind of like it.

I've found that my tolerance for Coldplay has grown as I have gotten older jesus I'm turning lame so fast what the hell is happening.

New Stephen Malkmus song posted over at the Matador Records blog is p. good. If the new album is just as good, Malkmus will have released *more* good albums post-Pavement than *with* Pavement.

I didn't bother with that Wild Beasts album because I hated their last one, but I've heard enough good things about it from reliable sources that I'm tempted to check it out. If only there were more than 24 hours in a day.

Some of my favorites so far from this year, in alphabetical order:

Alvarius B - Baroque Primativa
Crystal Stilts – In Love With Oblivion
Cut Hands – Afro Noise I
Destroyer – Kaputt
The Field – Looping State Of Mind
Girls - Father, Son, Holy Ghost
Human Eye – They Came From The Sky
Lykke Li – Wounded Rhymes
The Mountain Goats – All Eternals Deck
Prurient – Bermuda Drain
St. Vincent - Strange Mercy
Tim Hecker – Ravedeath 1972
Zomby - Dedication

Also rereading the chatter about the Akron/Family album on the first page, I want to chime in that I agree it is quite good. One of the best deployments of the big anthemic Arcade Fire style choruses that have been so prevalent in indie rock this past half decade.

I need to listen to the Girls album. The video was really lame, and made me want to punch the lead singer. I'll check out the album since it's been so hyped up. I'm glad this thread is being updated, because I need new music to listen too.

My favorite albums this year are Knife Man by Andrew Jackson Jihad, Goblin, Frank Ocean, Death Grips, the new Mastodon, the new Battles (maybe that was 2010) and that's about all I remember enjoying. I haven't heard much this year and I've been listening to so much great older music that I stopped caring about new music around May. Still, I'm always game for something new to listen to.

I hated Goblin and the Battles album, but Frank Ocean's Nostalgia, Ultra is one I should have mentioned as well.

I only heard the new Battles once but I really dug it the first time ("My Machines" is a great song and is so good that it might've influenced the mention I gave the album.) I really like Goblin, but I realize that it's flawed, around twenty five minutes too long, and hugely self indulgent. Nearly every song should've been at least a minute shorter. The beats, lyrics, Tyler's flow, and the ambition behind the album are what made me really like it.

Truth be told, I can't get past the whole rape obsession. It really turned me against him almost immediately. I'm well aware that this makes me a middle aged woman, but there you have it.

If you take the rape obssession as an 'over the top parody of the modern hipster desire to have their rappers be aural minstrel shows' then it's a lot more palatable. I've had Goblin on constant rotation these past few days.

I take it as a non parodic example of the modern hipster's desire to wholeheartedly embrace violent misogyny while disingenuously handwaving it away as ironic to avoid having to come to terms with their own attitudes.

Odd Future has nothing to do with hipsters. The rape obsession is teenagers being teenagers and trying to shock people. Are you telling me that you didn't make rape jokes when you were 19?

I don't think any of the rape stuff is supposed to be taken seriously. It reminds me of the beginning of this

M.E.T.H.O.D Man- Wu Tang Clan(With Torture Intro. AND LYRICS!)

Bullshit.

Sure I did. If somebody had heard those rape jokes on a song I released and been disgusted by them, they wouldn't be wrong.

Besides, they might be able to hide behind the "WE'RE JUST KIDS, WE DON'T KNOW ANY BETTER" cop-out, but large sections of their audience has no such excuse.

I've been involved with enough anti sexual violence work that I've seen firsthand how the legal system is biased against victims of sexual assault. It's a very serious problem with our justice system, so it's hard for me to laugh at rape humor.
