RAW Before The War (7-3-95)

WWF Monday Night RAW
July 3rd, 1995 (Taped June 26th, 1995)
From Danville, Pennsylvania
Announcers: Vince McMahon and Jerry Lawler

We open with a video package highlighting last week’s Savio Vega-Jeff Jarrett match for Double J’s Intercontinental Title.  Vega nearly won the IC Title despite wrestling his fifth match in twenty four hours. What’s bigger news is though is that Shawn Michaels saved Savio Vega from a 2 on 1 attack from Jeff Jarrett and The Roadie. We’ll see what happened after last week’s show tonight! Plus Bam Bam Bigelow Vs SID in our featured bout. Bammer and SID cut insert promos on the big match.

Jerry Lawler has returned, having recovered from having his own foot shoved in his mouth (literally) by Bret Hart at King of the Ring eight days ago. Lawler shotguns a bottle of Scope. Which would be impressive if that was legit mouthwash or even watered down mouthwash.

123 Kid Vs Mike Bell
123 Kid’s returning after a two month absence here. Lawler and McMahon actually have a pretty good discussion about 123 Kid’s  hesitancy returning after a neck injury before going into their usual hokey style with a bunch of Mouthwash and TicTac jokes. Vince actually sings a takeoff on The Ohio Express ’60s bubble gum hit “Yummy Yummy Yummy,” replacing the word “love” with “toe jam.” Ohio Express references in 1995? How did WCW think they could compete with this? This is not exactly a strong return for Kid as he gives up a good amount of offense to the jobber Bell. I guess they were still sort of playing up the plucky underdog gimmick though so it makes sense from that standpoint.  Kid wins with an inside cradle.

Todd Pettingell is here with our first In Your House 2 report. In Your House 2, goes down live from Nashville on July 23rd! It looks like Todd’s cut his horrible mullet. Speaking of horrible, our main event is a Lumberjack Match for the WWF World Title between Diesel and SID. Diesel and SID have personally selected their lumberjacks and they are…

For SID, IRS (making his last appearance before jumping over to WCW), Kama, The Blu Twins, King Mabel

On Diesel’s side; Adam Bomb, Savio Vega, Razor Ramon, and the Smoking Gunns. But we’ll have more lumberjacks announced soon!

CAN’T WAIT!

We get the footage of what went down after the show ended last week. Double J challenged Shawn Michaels to a match and slapped him with the belt strap then stalled as WWF Officials tried to break the skirmish up. HBK put on the IC Title and knocked out Jeff Jarrett with the superkick. Plus 123 Kid will take on The Roadie and Owen Hart & Yokozuna will defend the WWF Tag Team Titles against The Allied Powers! More matches will be announced but coming up next, the debut of Jeff Jarrett’s first music video. Todd says it’s actually GOOD. The understatement of the year. Lawler thinks Double J is better than Garth Brooks.

More than the four WCW World Title runs, more than the six Intercontinental Title runs, more than the six TNA World Title runs, and maybe even more than being EL REY DE MEXICO, the music video for “With My Baby Tonight” is the highlight of Double J’s career. Even Vince McMahon is impressed!

Bob Holly Vs The Brooklyn Brawler
Vince McMahon tells us that Bret Hart is sharing his grilling tips on the WWF Superstar Line for 4th of July Weekend. Bret’s Canadian though! I guess it’s Canada Day too and anytime’s a good time to get grill tips from The Excellence of Execution. Vince McMahon DOES NOT KNOW WHY Brooklyn Brawler wouldn’t buy a new t-shirt. Bob Holly’s mild push over the first half of ’95 was winding down but he was still high enough on the card to get an easy win over The Brawler.

Next week on RAW! The Allied Powers takes on The Million Dollar Corporation’s Tatanka & King Kong Bundy. One team fights for the colors of their countries and one team fights for the color of money!

We go back to WWF Superstars with Henry O. Godwinn preparing a new batch of slop and giving it a taste test. Wonder if he brought it to Bret Hart’s BBQ. HOG fought Adam Bomb (How did WCW think they could compete with this!?) to a double countout. HOG got the last laugh when he dumped his new and improved slop bucket on Adam Bomb’s head.

Henry O. Godwinn Vs Barry Horowitz
Barry Horowitz gets a nice, little ovation from the crowd. Lawler says Doc Rivers calls Barry “Barry Horrible-witz.” Wow. Who knew the future NBA coach would have so much hate for WWF’s favorite lovable loser? Vince rightfully trolls him for this. McMahon asks about Lawler’s dentist Issac Yankem but it’s interrupted by Horowitz getting some offense on HOG. Godwinn finishes Horowitz with the Slop Drop.

Barry Didinskey wearing an ugly-assed Bam Bam Bigelow shirt shills along with awkward teenage girl in HBK shirt and awkward, mugging teenage boy in an Adam Bomb t-shirt (with Adam Bomb mini-football). HOW DID WCW THINK THEY COULD COMPETE WITH THIS!? Vince McMahon asks Barry WHERE THE HECK HIS BOB BACKLUND FOR PRESIDENT BUMPER STICKER IS!?

Psycho Sid (With Ted DiBiase) Vs Bam Bam Bigelow
HEY WAITAMINUTE! Henry O. Gocdwinn is still at ringside. Million Dollar Man tells him to stay put. What is going on here? After a commercial break, Bam Bam makes his entrance  and HOG blocks his way. THe two of them brawl for a bit before the Keystone Kops send Godwinn to the back.  Bammer’s having a match before the match and is obviously affected by it in the early moments of the match before he utilizes his agility. MDM initiates some more heel shenanigans.  This match surprisingly isn’t a bad big man match although SID hits one of the least impressive chokeslams ever. Bam Bam nearly gets the upset but HOG runs back down to shove Bam Bam off the top and give SID the close win. IS HOG THE NEWEST MEMBER OF TED DIBIASE’S CORPORATION!? SID powerbombs Bigelow after the match. This was the end of Bigelow’s push in WWF pretty much.

Vince McMahon narrates some footage of the WWF taking part in the opening ceremony of the Special Olympics. Diesel attended a pep rally alongside Connecticut Governor John Rowland and WrestleMania 2 Color Commentator Susan St. James.

Waylon Mercy Vs Jeff Hardy
This is the debut of Waylon Mercy. Waylon Mercy’s gimmick was really fifteen years ahead of its time. Which is funny cause it was based on a movie that was four years old at the time but WWF/E is always twenty years behind the time. Waylon Mercy demolishes young 18 year old Jeff Hardy. Vince and Jerry make some lame puns about Jeff’s last name. This kid will never go anywhere. Jerry Lawler hypes the Star Wars Trilogy on the USA Network this week. The King knows something about Star Wars…

Jerry Lawler teases Hakushi’s face turn by calling him a bumbling idiot. McMahon and The King discuss their 4th of July plans. I’d love to attend a Vinne Mac BBQ 4th of July Bash. Vince announces that next week’s main event will be The Allied Powers Vs Tatanka & Henry O. Godwinn. Guess King Kong  Bundy got another residual check from Moving and decided he didn’t need to main event RAW next week. Mercy wins with a sleeper then shakes the referrees hand. What an offputting guy!

Jerry Lawler trolls a dorky kid reading National Geographic and the 1995 version of Lena Dunham in a waiting room and cuts a promo on Bret Hart. This vignette ends with the on screen debut of Lawler’s dentist Issac Yankem DDS. And get this, the DENTIST  HAS TERRIBLE TEETH!!! Ho ho ho! (Merry Christmas Eve)  HOW DID WCW THINK THEY COULD COMPETE WITH THIS!?

Next Week on RAW: The Allied Powers, Lex Luger and “The British Bulldog” Davey Boy Smith take on a gruesome twosome from the Million Dollar Corporation, Tatanka and Henry O. Godwinn. Plus Hunter Hearst Helmsley, Savio Vega, and The Roadie all in action plus an exclusive interview with #1 Contender for the WWF World Title SID.
