WWE NXT – June 5, 2013

WWE NXT – 06/05/2013

NXT kicks off for this week.  Not only is it quickly becoming my favorite show but they, in my opinion, have the best theme song as well.

BOOMER SOONER.

As soon as we get to Full Sail University, JR is making his way to the ring.  It sounds like he will be mediating the contract signing for the NXT Championship match between Big E Langston and Bo Dallas.

Contract Signing – Big E Langston & Bo Dallas

JR hypes up the men in the match and the match up next week.  Langston gets a ton of crowd support and Dallas is starting to get some boos.

He makes his way out looking like a less built Wes Brisco when he was Kurt Angle’s buddy in TNA.  We see some brief clips of last week’s Battle Royal victory but more importantly, I NEED FIVE hits and Big E comes out, celebrating almost six months of being champion.

The announce team highlights how Langston won the title overcoming all three members of The Shield as Langston shakes hands with Ross.

Dallas looks on at Big E, who signs the contract first.  JR brings the contract over to Bo Dallas, who takes his time.  As the boos fill in, he picks up a microphone, as he has something to say.

Bo states he was not pleased with Langston confronting him like he was a joke last week when he won the Battle Royal.  Despite Dallas being the heel, he talks about Langston’s relationship with Dolph, competing at Wrestlemania and says that Big E is doing all of the things he should be doing.  He attributes it to being the NXT Champion and states that he needs that championship.  It isn’t for a match.  It is for three seconds to change his life.

At this time, the crowd starts chanting five, which gets Langston nodding as Dallas finishes his tirade.

Langston picks up the mic and says he doesn’t find Dallas a joke. He mentions he respected him when he got knocked out by the Big Show.  Langston then explains that while he is the biggest, baddest man NXT has ever seen, Bo is a geek that wears footie pajamas.

After he makes his jokes, he tells Bo that he will crush his dreams and do it in five.

Dallas signs the contact and then shoves the clipboard in Langston’s chest before exiting the ring.

JR reminds us the match is next week and wishes both men luck.  Somewhat of a nothing appearance for Good Old JR.

As Langston stands holding his title in the ring, they throw it to the back with Renee Young, who introduces us to Corey Graves.

Backstage Interview – Renee Young with Corey Graves

Graves is asked about the NXT Tag Team titles against the Wyatt Family.  Graves explains it isn’t so much the title but it is taking down the monsters that make up the Wyatt Family.  Graves explains that while the Wyatt Family loves playing mind games, they aren’t games to him.

Young starts asking about his shaky relationship with his partner tonight, Kassius Ohno.  Graves admits he doesn’t like him but the titles are a bigger cause than their dislike.  Graves essentially offers to take the titles home by himself and take down the Wyatt family, as he shows off his knuckle tattoos.

After a match graphic for the main event, we get a hype video for Paige.  They were wrong and labeled her the Anti-Diva, she is tomorrow’s Diva – not another pretty face, but here to fight.

A match graphic shows us the next match is for the NXT Women’s Championship tournament.

Tamina makes her way out smiling and slapping hands.  It seems much like Langston, she is a heel on the main roster and a face at NXT.

Paige, the Anti-Diva, is out next and she seems to be a face these days as well, so I guess a friendly competition as the first match in the first round of this tournament.

Tamina Snuka vs. Paige

This is my first time seeing a Paige match, so I am pretty excited.  She’s been touted as one of the best and all of the NXT Divas matches I have seen have been better than ones on the main shows.

Despite being smaller, Paige pretty quickly leads Tamina around by the hair.  Tamina quickly gets free and headbutts Paige down to the ground.  She quickly picks her up and tosses Paige like a ragdoll.

A quick pin does not work, so Tamina picks Paige up for a suplex.  Another unsuccessful pin attempt by Snuka on the Anti-Diva.

Snuka continues to simply toss around Paige and gets her in a headlock again.  The crowd start rallying around Paige, who breaks free only to get chopped down to the ground again.  On commentary, we hear this may be the toughest first round matchup but Tamina remains in full control.

Maddox thinks the winner of this match will be a favorite to win but we hear other WWE Divas, including former champions like Alicia Fox, are in contention to be the first holder of this title.

Paige continues to break free as Tamina ties her up some more.  Paige works over some punches, finds herself in a waistlock but continues to fling elbows until she backs Tamina in the corner.  Just when it seems like the momentum is shifting, Tamina lays out Paige with a swift kick.

Rather than going for the cover, Snuka goes up to for the Superfly Splash.  Paige lifts her knees, stuns Tamina and then rolls her up for a three count.

Winner: Paige

Not the display of talent that I was hoping for with Paige, but she will advance in the tournament.  I thought she was likely to make the finals and as we see the bracket finally, I am sure it is set up that way:

Paige vs. Tamina

Bayley vs. Alicia Fox

Sasha Banks vs. Summer Rae

Emma vs. Aksana

Given that Paige and Summer Rae are the stars and seem to have bad blood, it seems appropriate they will first get a chance to meet in the finals.  The booking on this one seems pretty straight forward but I am still excited to see it play out.

We go to join Renee one more time.

Backstage Interview –Renee Young with Kassius Ohno

Renee Young is now with the other half of the challengers, explaining how Kassius turned face by apologizing to William Regal for their interactions.  This led to his bad blood with Wyatt Family, where we get the big main event tonight.

Young asks about the differences between Ohno and Graves.  Kassius explains that Graves is a lone wolf but the most important thing is going to war to take away what Wyatt holds most precious.

Hype video for Leo Kruger is up next.  It seems like they are playing him up to be a creepy weirdo too.

Colin Cassidy is in the ring with some cheesy music playing.  He looks like an indy wrestler crossed with a greased down version of Edge.

That doesn’t matter because MASON RYAN!  THE COLOSSUS OF CARDIFF!

Colin Cassidy vs. Mason Ryan

As the bell rings, we hear again about how Mason singlehandedly tossed out over half of the field in the battle royal.  A total of 11 men.  Mason throws Cassidy in the corner, who actually gets some brief offense in on Ryan.  Ryan is selling the punches but shakes them off before booting Cassidy in the face.

Mason smashes Cassidy in the corner, who is a big heavyweight, as we hear he is a former basketball player.  We hear about Mason’s new focus as he starts battering Cassidy in the corner.

Ryan takes him down with a big clothesline and Ryan works the crowd before picking Cassidy up in a torture rack.  He converts it into a neck breaker which Maddox unofficially calls a Rack Breaker.  We hear about this destruction of a seven-footer as Mason celebrates.

Winner: Mason Ryan

We go backstage once more.

Backstage Interview – Renee Young with Sami Zayn

Young welcomes Zayn back and pumps up his great debut night, beating former tag champion Curt Hawkins, before taking an open challenge and beating former US Champion Antonio Cesaro.

Zayn plays the humble guy, talking about the incredible night before Cesaro comes in frame to dismiss Zayn, saying he got lucky.

Zayn is fine with the Cesaro initiated rematch before mocking Cesaro’s man purse.  This starts a pull apart backstage brawl before another commercial break.

SAY IT TO MY FACE!

A-Ry in the house!  AND HE HUGS A HEAVYSET OLD GUY!

With my love of Mason Ryan and Alex Riley in these write-ups, everyone must think I am longing for 2011.

A-Ry stares down the entrance ramp.  This is not going to be good.  Conor O’Brian, The Ascension, is brooding on the ramp.

Alex Riley vs. Conor O’Brian

We hear about the dominance of Conor O’Brian in recent times.  We are then told about how Alex Riley is not to be underestimated, as he has been to Wrestlemania.  Okay, I am a big A-Ry fan, but I think there is a difference between being in a match at Wrestlemania, which he has not, and being ringside.

O’Brian quickly takes Riley down with some shoulder blocks and tosses his around with some headlock-based tosses.

Riley tries to gain momentum but O’Brian maintains control.  Riley gets some offense in, chopping at Conor and actually taking him off his feet with a elbow.  A-Ry manages a flying lariat off the top but only manages a one count.

Riley starts gesturing to the crowd before hitting a move, which looks to be his downfall.  O’Brian starts picking apart Alex, a flapjack.  He locks in his new submission, The Stockade, which looks like another MMA-type submission and it is over.

Winner: Conor O’Brian

O’Brian roars into the camera.  As he goes back to the ramp, the announcers get quiet because the same guy who was on stage last time is crouching behind him.

O’Brian turns around, he nods and they roar together.  Yay! Dominant team roar!

The show returns from commercial with a hype package for the Langston-Dallas Championship Match next week.

As the show comes back, we get a graphic for the NXT Tag Team Championship and Dayton, Ohio’s own Kassius Ohno is making his way to the ring.

We see the Wyatt Family’s initial attack on Kassius four weeks ago on NXT.  As Kassius stands angrily in the ring, Corey Graves makes his way onto the entrance ramp.

Graves and Ohno keep their distance in the ring as Bray Wyatt starts preaching on the microphone as the Wyatt Family comes out on stage.  Rowan is dragging a rocking chair out for Bray, the Eater of Worlds, to enjoy the match from.

This group is so much fun, I really hope they do not get neutered on the main roster.  Bray begins rocking as the Family holds their belts together and figure out starting the match.

NXT Tag Team Title Match: Kassius Ohno & Corey Graves vs. The Wyatt Family

Ohno and Rowan begin the match.  Kassius holds his fits up ready to fight as Rowan rolls his neck.  They tie up and pull apart.  Ohno tries to tie up Rowan, who keeps breaking free.  He lifts Ohno for a slam but Ohno maintains control.

Rowan breaks free and knocks Ohno to the mat.  I can hear Harper doing his “YEAH” thing, which is pretty awesome.

Ohno gets tied in the corner but Graves helps his partner by smartly tagging himself in.  Rowan takes the smallest man in the match, Graves over to his corner and gets Harper in.  Harper easily catches Graves and carries him to the corner.

Graves tries to mount a comeback but gets blocked.  Tries to rolls up Harper, Harper won’t let him.

Harper throws Graves into the ropes but has hip-toss reversed and Graves makes a tag to turn the tides quickly again.

Ohno works on Harper, who takes down Ohno and makes a tag to Rowan as we go to break.

Rowan has Ohno tied up closer to the Wyatt corner upon return.  Corey is storming the ropes and the crowd is joining in with Harper’s “YEAH YEAH YEAH”.  Rowan starts hammering Ohno and brings Harper in, who easily knocks Kassius over.  Pin attempt for a kickout.

Team work between the tag champs, bringing Rowan back in.  Ohno finds an opening and brings in Graves, who finds a way to take out the legs from Rowan.  Harper tries to run a distraction before Graves can go for his patented submission.

Rowan downs Graves and tags in Harper, who takes out Graves with a massive elbow to the face.  He drops his weight on Graves for another two count.

The tag champions make some quick tags, switching in and out to keep Graves as far away from his corner as possible.  Rowan goes for a pumphandle slam that he turns into a nasty backbreaker but the leader of the Filth Parade is able to kick out.

Rowan starts using his size advantage with an overhead backbreaker on Graves.  As Ohno tries to encourage his partner, Graves slips away but into the Wyatt corner.

Harper tagged back in standing over the fallen Graves.  He takes his time setting up a suplex but Graves pulls him into a small package.  Kickout, Graves manages to wind him into another pin.  After a second kick out by the tag champs, the fresh Ohno finally comes in and clears house.

Ohno bashes Harper into on corner and runs from one side to the other with a huge forearm.  He knocks Rowan off the apron and goes straight into a senton but Harper kicks out.

We see Bray Wyatt is starting to get uneasy and he tries to get involved.  Ohno ducks, Harper in the corner, Ohno hits a rolling headbutt.

Rowan tries coming in a Graves gets rid of him.

Wyatt back on the apron and he knocks out Ohno.  Graves sees this and flies over the top to take down Bray Wyatt but the tag champions take advantage and pin Ohno for the win.

Winners: The Wyatt Family

Bray Wyatt is on the ground laughing, as Graves is down too.  Graves is trying to recover as the Wyatt Family stagger up the ramp, victorious again.
