WWE Superstars – 7/25/2013
The red-hot Usos are doing their Samoan dance on the entrance as this week’s Superstars begins!
Tony Dawson and Alex Riley let us know we are going to open the show with tag action and talk up the upcoming Summerslam as the 3MB’s music hits.
As the band dances on the ramp and the Usos laugh, Justin Roberts clues us in it will be Drew and Jinder fighting tonight.
The Usos vs. Drew McIntyre and Jinder Mahal of 3MB
Jinder vs. Jimmy opens the match as Dawson points out the Usos are wearing the same ring gear from their recent title shot at Money in the Bank. Way to make the faces sound cheap, Tony.
Jimmy delivers a power-pack of offense as we hear Jimmy starts the match because he was the twin born first.
Riley blurs the lines of shooting a little too much saying the Usos grew up “bumping” with their father, Rikishi. Jimmy has total control so McIntyre pulls Jinder out, only to have the Usos dive onto 3MB on the outside.
Not much of a match going on as the show hits its first commercial.
McIntyre is in and taking control of the match as we hear about McIntyre working out at the new WWE Performance Center in Tampa. Drew has softened up the Usos enough for Jinder to come back in the ring. Jinder hits a knee to the face for a quick two count.
Drew tagged back in and I get the feeling Dawson still cannot tell the Usos apart, as we never hear which Uso is being isolated.
Riley compares the Usos to the Rockers.
The announcers really continue putting over McIntyre, talking about all he wants to do is party and wrestle. They mention his championship reigns. Remember 2010, when they let Drew do things?
Drew and Jinder continue to make tags and work on the neck and knee of Jimmy Uso. Jimmy begins to rally and nails a really nice enziguri to Drew, who was standing on the apron.
Slater throws Drew in to tag Jinder but Jimmy crawls across the ring enough to get the fresh Jey in. Jey throws some quick kicks and is taking out all of 3MB.
He hits a Samoan Drop on Jinder, which Dawson calls a Samoan Backdrop. We are told the Usos are THE true tag team.
After some strategy by 3MB, Jey is put in a full nelson by Jinder, but he slides, Jimmy is there and they nail the double superkick.
The big splash finisher is connected from the top and the Usos win again.
Winners: The Usos
The Usos have a dance party in the ring as 3MB re-gathers on the ramp.
Monday’s main event is hyped. They spoil Daniel’s three opponents in the graphic.
Recap from Monday’s contract signing airs first.
Replay of CM Punk-Heyman segment follows.
Enough recaps, Layla is here and she is INSATIABLE. She can’t get enough.
Every time I see Layla, I get sad thinking why we don’t see her more. I also realized that Superstars has a ton of Divas matches these days as an excuse to plug Total Divas, despite the fact neither of the Divas here are the featured Divas, as the first African-American Divas Champion, Alicia Fox, makes her way to the ring.
Alicia still is apparently a heel that enters as a face.
Layla vs. Alicia Fox
We get told that Alicia went to the same high school as TIM TEBOW as the two Divas tie up.
Layla takes quick control with a variety of submissions and drop kicks. She gets the crowd clapping, does a drop toe hold and spanks Alicia in a moment I will keep with me to my dying day.
As they hype Layla as the most experienced Diva in the WWE now, Alicia manages to outsmart Layla for the first time and deliver a nasty dropkick to the outside. Riley makes a good commentary save pointing out that was one of the moments athleticism can outweigh experience.
Alicia wraps her legs around Layla. I don’t see how that is punishment at all.
Alicia continues to wrap Layla’s head between her thighs and starts spanking her. FIVE STAR MATCH.
Alicia finally breaks the hold and delivers a clothesline. As she moves toward the corner, Layla counters and is able to get a rollup at one.
Layla starts regaining momentum and taking down Fox with a variety of power moves, capped off with a face slam.
Layla hits a LOL but can’t close the match.
A frustrated Layla receives a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker out of nowhere from Alicia.
Layla hits a boot and finally gets the win so we can hear her theme song again.
Winner: Layla
Layla celebrates before another Total Divas ad airs.
Rather than a straight replay, a video recap of Bryan’s gauntlet on RAW is aired. The best bout, against Cesaro, is the match that is barely shown in the entire package. This will close out the show for the week.
