The other day I saw some talking head spokesman try to say Trump is impressive because he doesn't spaz on babies anymore. They're trying to set the bar really low for his debate performance. They just want him to look "ready to lead" aka not a total nutjob.

Personally I think Silver's psyche has been broken by being wrong about Trump, and that he's been extrapolating things from data or automatically discounting it when he shouldn't. Even though the data said Trump would win and he just ignored that.
I felt like Silver lost interest after 2012 and mostly wanted to focus on other stuff and does the elections now because it's bread and butter. he'd probably rather talk about baseball and other stat nerd shit.
I heard some dude on the radio today who has been using true/false questions based on the current presidency to predict the outcomes since the early 1980s. His formula has not yet been wrong. It predicts Trump. Election over.
It's an embarressment.
It's so bad the audience laughs at him.

I don't think anyone's mind has changed. The same people that love Trump will still love him for being an asshole and talking over people.
I think there are a fair amount of people supporting both that were on the fence and tonight might have altered or confirmed their opinions.

Maybe the most one-sided debate I've ever seen. Live or videotape. But I'm not really sure there's anything that would sway a Trump supporter; it really is something close to worship with him.
In a wildly publicly spoken aloud way, Trump did keep a kind of decorum re: Hillary's experiences with a loved one's adultery. The tease toward the end was weird and, probably, ineffective attempt at self-serving.
Trump's gun control comments would have destroyed any other Republican's base support. I'm not sure it will matter to a percentage point of them, though.
Did Trump realize it would be a split screen for most of the telecast? And that microphones pick up pronounced snorting noises?

It won't sway any of Trump's supporters, but Clinton was stellar. Some of her jokes fell flat and she meandered a bit, but that's the kind of dominant performance that could pull Johnson and Stein voters into her camp, and pump up enthusiasm and turn out among lazy Dems. That's what she needs.
Trump didn't defend himself against any of the racist stuff except to say that he "settled out of court with no admission of guilt," on the issue of housing discrimination against black people, which is just insane. That was his most stunning failure.
He also insinuated that he didn't pay taxes and evaded the issue of his returns despite being offered a zillion opportunities to deal with it. He acted like a loon and waded in the birther stuff. He interrupted and demeaned her constantly. He became flustered and incoherent whenever pressed on any question. He didn't present any plans for anything, even simple ones that would appeal to low information voters. It was the first time in the whole campaign that someone was able to push him for an extended period of time, and he absolutely crumbled. I came.

When he said no one felt any sympathy for the shit he said to rosie, i was like wtf. The shit about hillary fighting isis her entire adult life. so much other shit. He was an embarrassment.
