Bernie's officially in. Yay?

I like Bernie. And he seems more in touch with younger people than someone half his age. But I’m using someone else’s theory about not wanting to vote for someone that’s old enough to be my grandparent.

But if he’s the democratic choice then I’ll vote for him.

Bernie running is a good thing. We've already seen how jostled the GOP get when somebody espousing similar views gains steam with AOC, and he did manage to make Hillary pull further left than she normally was, so maybe the Bern will be there to make other candidates remember what side of the aisle they're actually on.

What is with America’s obsession with electing people old enough to keel over at any moment?

Bernie/Gabbard 2020.

Thoughts on Tulsi?

Must say, the way she put entitled Megan McCain in her place in The View made me more impressed with her than I already was.

Well it's not going to matter what Tusli Gabbard's positions are because she used to proudly talk about working for anti-gay conversion therapy, being a huge apologist for Assad, and a lot of anti-muslim shit. https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2019/1/16/18182114/tulsi-gabbard-2020-president-campaign-explained I don't see the democrat base rallying to that kind of candidate

Idk about the anti gay stuff but the Assad apologist stuff is bullshit.

She basically suggested that he’s not the only dictator out there doing terrible stuff and that America should stop trying to be the policeman of the world and maybe not start anymore regime change wars, especially given their track record of toppling dictators and making an already bad situation worse. And she wasn’t wrong.

That didn’t stop the media, Republicans and corporate Democrats from predictably smearing her as an Assad apologist. Despite the fact that she was in an actual war, helping fill body bags and treating the wounded and they... well.... weren’t.

Andrew Yang, whose central policy is Universal Basic Income, had an interesting sit down interview with Joe Rogan a few days ago. His ideas are ambitious if nothing else.

Read the article maybe? It lays out all of the anti-lgbtq stuff in her past. She's evolved from it but it's still a liability. She also didn't just argue that America shouldn't play World Police. She wanted America to align with Assad, met with him personally, claimed to be "skeptical" about his using chemical weapons, etc. There's a number of other examples in the article and other articles.

No doubt, I agree about the lgbtq stuff.

I don’t know what you mean by align with Assad though. Did she met him? Yes. Have US presidents met countless dictators that have committed atrocities? Of course. Are we ourselves aligned with regimes who literally cut up people with bonesaws? Yes

The main thing is that she’s talking about ending regime change wars when nobody else is. And that’s a good thing.

Beto is in. Anyone else think him losing to Cruz so recently sort of hurts his chances?

Losing to unlikable GOP senator in a relatively blue wave year even after outspending him is not a good look admittedly, even if spun as making Democratic headway into the state. Guy's got some charisma and the press certainly seems keen to cover him, but unlike an 07/08 era Obama I don't see much in the way of competent policy wonk from him. For now he's John Edwards minus the scandal; likable but there's more substantive candidates out there.

Beto raised $6.1 million in the first 24 hours!

I think Beto has a good chance of getting the DEM nomination, don't get me wrong there are a lot of viable candidates and 2020 is going to be a bloodbath; Conservatives will want Trujmp to get re-elected for his/GOP legacy.

I think if Beto didn't run he'd win in 2024 easily if Trump won again in 2020.

Maybe but I think it will hurt him more during the primaries more than anything else. Trump may play that card, but its all going to be Dems = Socialism. I think if Beto won the nomination he could beat Trump; never underestimate the fact that Hillary was A: a woman and B: the wife of a Democrat President. It was a perfect storm to get Trump elected among those and other factors.

That said, here in Ohio, a lot of people are unhappy because they owe money on their tax returns. I think it would be hard for Beto to lose his own state and win the office, but I think the usual toss-ups (Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania & Florida) could be up for grabs if retired people are having to write $1500 checks to the IRS.

The tax changes are what's going to get a blue wave coming. At least Dems can say they cut taxes for lower income households and the taxes collected aren't being geared toward a wall that KEEPS GETTING VOTED DOWN.

well trump has a primary challenger. Maybe it will encourage a few more to jump in? I don't think anyone will beat him in the primaries but they might distract him from attacking the Dem candidates for awhile etc.

This guy is fucking scum. Launching a campaign on the site of people's trauma? Scum. End of discussion.

Trump's going to win again. The Dems will choose the most milquetoast candidate and lose just like when Kerry lost to Bush.

https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2019/4/19/18508224/elizabeth-warren-mueller-report-trump-impeachment

Vox’s Li Zhou on Friday did a rundown of 2020 reactions: Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) called on Congress to “continue its investigation into Trump’s conduct and any foreign attempts to influence our election.” Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro said the report “exposes disgraceful behavior.” Sens. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Cory Booker (D-NJ), and Kamala Harris (D-CA) have all urged Mueller to appear before Congress. Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX) during his 2018 Senate campaign in Texas said he would vote for impeachment proceedings if elected, but he has softened his rhetoric somewhat on the issue during his presidential bid.

As Zhou points out, many in the group have avoided the topic:

Klobuchar and Harris are among the Democrats skirting the question of impeachment, for now. “Our job is to be jury, so I’ve been really careful talking about if an impeachment is brought before us,” Klobuchar told MSNBC’s Chris Hayes.

“Well, I think that there’s definitely a conversation to be had on that subject, but first I want to hear from Bob Mueller and really understand what exactly is the evidence that supports the summary that we have been given today,” Harris noted.

With her call for impeachment on Friday in the wake of Castro’s comments, Warren is upping the ante for the rest.

Warren the first candidate to step up to the plate on impeachment.

WTF? Going to one the site where America needs healing and where he can point to Trump's divisive comments and behavior is a bad thing? This seems like messaging 101 to me.

This dude is gonna get sonned so hard in the debates. He leads in the polls now because people associate him with Obama and because of the Onion's "Uncle Joe" caricature but when he's up there arguing in favor of neoliberal austerity when all the other candidates (the real ones anyway, losers like Amy Klobuchar don't count) support a broader social safety net this gropey old turd is going down to single digits.
