I mean, VKM could've also fired SCSA at any point. I kinda feel like this falls into the acceptable level of "need to suspend disbelief" you need to have to watch wrestling or most entertainment.

They addressed Vince and Austin pretty early on. Austin made Vince rich, and Vince is that fucked up to use that as justification.

Yeah I think this is self explanatory. 'I don't want to send wrestlers to WWE' period the end. Doesn't have to be stated.

Rich kid yelling about another rich kid. Get new material Tony, you did this already.

Don’t keep calling WWE unoriginal (a point that isn’t inaccurate) and then break out your old material when you are on national tv.

Waiting to see who in here carries that water for Tony and says that the “Harvey Weinstein” comparison was not a misstep of epic proportion.

Well if it wasn’t, then how can we say it was?

It’s lame and worn material but we come to expect and in some ways like that about Tony but it’s not remotely an epic misstep. This isn’t going to lose sponsors, fans or any appreciative measure of value.

Calling himself Pepsi is far more egregious because why compare yourself to an inferior product, isnt that the perception you are fighting? Cola preferences aside, he does this routine because he’s playing to a very specific niche and for that crowd it works.

He did nothing wrong here except be himself.

WWE is literally being sued because of it's former owner sex trafficking and raping a woman. Multiple people who had at least some knowledge of what was happening still work for the company. Brock Lesnar is still under contract. People who have other allegations are under contract. TKO/UFC have multiple people under contract with issues as well.

Tony saying that is not an "epic" misstep. It is how WWE is perceived by not only many wrestling fans but by many non-fans.

If you want to call it lame/worn that is definitely fair. But like Hawk says, it is playing to a specific audience, as well as to non/casual fans who only hear about this in the news occasionally.

I want to circle back to him comparing himself to Pepsi because that’s the fucking epic misstep here.

Pepsi is another multibillion dollar entity, by that measure it’s also “evil” like Coca Cola is by his flawed logic.

The Harvey comment means nothing

In news that might have significant implications for AEW’s negotiations with WBD, news broke this afternoon that Amazon has the framework in place for a TV deal with the NBA. With ESPN also on the verge of locking in a new contract, it’s looking like it will come down to WBD and NBC for a third (and likely final) TV rights package with the league.

The best reactions are the folks so deep in the rasslin bubble that think this means AEW will get the money they were gonna give to NBA.

Of all the things to defend, why rape?

The fact that he's doing it in a neckbrace makes it all the better.

I've reconsidered my position on TK being a character. I'm enjoying this, not even ironically. It's actually fun.

Vince has been compared to Weinstein routinely including by Costas just a month ago or so on Maher's show. Yeah it was a "ballsy" thing to say by Tony but let's not pretend it's not an apt comparison

Maher is on WBD. TK just a corporate suck ass. Smart move before the rights deal.

Tony might be good at this ass kissing after all and he says he isn’t like Vince.

I do notice that nobody is disputing what he said. It’s just classic tone police ‘how dare he say it’ sorry but sometimes it’s just the truth. Of course I question why when given that interview time why he would talk about WWE.

AEW obviously isn’t getting NBA-level money from WBD, but not having a giant new NBA deal on WBD’s books could help AEW squeeze out a few more bucks or, at the very least, make it a lot less likely for AEW to be left out in the cold looking for another network to pick up its shows.

Aside from the financial aspect, I would hate to see TNT lose the NBA entirely, but if it means fewer pre-emptions for AEW, that would be one positive at least.

By his logic of comparing himself to Pepsi, Pepsi main marketing for decades has been “we aren’t the other guys”, so he’s always going to think that tactic works.

Coke is obviously better but I don’t think it is a McDonalds-Burger King level discrepancy between them and Pepsi. And there was a long time (particularly Tony Khan was in his teens and twenties) where it was the “cooler” half of the cola wars.

Wait. What folder is this again?

It would also free up Collision to move to a week night. Without the NBA on Tuesday and Thursday I'm pretty sure AEW would get a prime slot.

I might be the only one here, but I'm about to be...All In... with this "The Learning Tree" gimmick of Jericho's. Especially if you view it as a parody of Punk's backstage rep as I've seen posited elsewhere.
