Pre Bischoff WCW is a lot more analogous to AEW than ‘00 WCW, which might be part of the reason why Sleazy E Is so contemptuous towards it

Yeah, there may be a half dozen matches that are *** or higher in the ENTIRE YEAR for WCW. Rampage usually has one or two several matches that level not to mention the shows people actually care about.


Great matches don’t mean squat unless you have stories that resonate with a broad audience and a great looking product though. ‘99 WWF is almost as bad match quality wise as ‘00 WCW but their stories resonated for whatever reason. Same dopey author too for the most part, bro.

The thing is that AEW with DVR ratings has more people watching it than any one aside from WWE since the MNW. The weekly rating with DVR Meltzer had a couple of times was something like 3 million. It's a totally different industry and audience now.

AEW is almost assuredly going to get a fat tv contract in the next year or two and will probably be profitable then. What will the next talking point be?

I have to admit that I didn’t expect this. I think maybe the biggest mistake of airing the tape is that AEW might not be able to keep him heel. Now that it’s clear he did nothing wrong the heat of the incident transferred away from him. The longer the match went the more people were cheering for him.

Meltzer had them a couple times a few years ago. I haven't seen them since then but I also don't really pay attention anymore.

I’m a bit amazed no one, not even TNA (outside of a super brief run during the GFW “invasion” angle in 2015) has taken a flyer on Chris Masters.

Agreed. If you're really trying to push forward as the "progressive" wrestling company, a good step would be to point out whatever revenue your shows bring to the areas they're held and tell these shitholes that they won't see any of that money for their backwards views.
