It’s going to take a while to make a real, sustained difference on ticket sales, but I’ll give AEW credit for listening to the criticism they’ve gotten for how they market their shows and are now making changes. I’ve noticed the past couple weeks, they’ve started doing full rundowns of upcoming events on TV, and they’re getting back to announcing matches in advance as well.
Another thing is they’re being much more proactive with PR. I’m a nobody freelancer who has done a couple newspaper interviews with wrestlers ahead of previous shows here. In the past, I’ve had to reach out to AEW to get those wheels turning, and their responses have been hit or miss. Last year in particular was looking like they weren’t going to make anyone available until Darby was offered up at the last possible second. This year, they reached out to me first weeks in advance to set up an interview, and I know they are hitting all the local TV and radio stations too. It’s far and away the best media blitz they’ve done ahead of a show here. I hope this stuff starts paying off.
