Maybe I'll try again then. I got the update, the system reset, then when it booted I got the standard error code for the server being down. Trying to log in got me the "under maintenance" message.

I did the firmware update early Sunday morning. Got through the password change alright, despite not using the PS3 I created the account on (that'd be my friend's YLOD'd 60GB model). Wasn't able to log in to PSN with the new password right away (this has happened to me before). Was able to log in to PlayStation.com with the new password. Got a confirmation e-mail, which Gmail doomed to my spam folder. Eventually logged in for a few minutes to update the trophies I didn't gain during the past month, and see the PS Store was down. Ran into a "server under maintenance" error later in the evening. And got back on again a few hours ago.

Yeah, I figured it would be a while before the store is up. Gonna suck because I can't use my code to redeem my online pass for Mortal Kombat until the store is back up, and I only have 1 day left to my free trial.

All PlayStation Network customers can select two PS3 games from the following list. The games will be available for 30 days shortly after PlayStation Store is restored and can be kept forever.

Dead Nation
inFAMOUS
LittleBigPlanet
Super Stardust HD
Wipeout HD + Fury

For PSP owners, you will be eligible to download two PSP games from the following list. The games will be available for 30 days shortly after PlayStation Store is restored and can be kept forever.

LittleBigPlanet (PSP)
ModNation Racers
Pursuit Force
Killzone Liberation

And goddammit, I own 4.5 out of those 5 PS3 games (I don't own the Fury expansion for Wipeout)

Pretty stoked that DEAD NATION is one of the games listed. It got pretty solid reviews, but wasn't sure about paying for a top down shooter, but for free? Fuck yeah!

I am lacking a good racing game in my current collection so I think I will go with Wipeout HD +Fury for my other game.

Wow, I don't want any of those games and I already own Dead Nation. I wonder what the JPN store will be offering..

Anyone able to hack in to PSN and make L.A. Noire one of the games available for free download? *runs and hides*

I'll get little big planet, but I am not sure what other game. I've already played through inFamous, but I wouldn't mind playing through it again with an evil character.

Wait, if you own a PSP and a PS3, do you get games for both or just two total games?
I hadn't got LittleBigPlanet yet so that is very cool. But having to choose between wipeout and dead nation? FUCK!

The fuck is superstardust?

According to reports on Nyleveia.com, Eurogamer, and NeoGAF, Sony's PlayStation Network password reset system-the one just put in place after the PSN hack-has been compromised, allowing hackers to change a PSN password if they know your email and date of birth. Exactly the sort of information that was released in the original hack.

Sony has taken the password reset system offline. Kotaku has reached out to Sony for comment.

Am I allowed to LOL Sony at this, or is this no big deal because other people get hacked sometimes too?

But we DO get free move rentals when they go back on with selected titles on selected weekends! And existing Plus members get TWO months added to their account.

The problem isn't LOLing at Sony. Go ahead. The problem is LOLing at Sony and making it seem like anyone who supports them or owns their console is an idiot for doing so. It's especially annoying when it's coming from gamers who only own Xboxes or are primarily Xbox users.

I actually wonder why sole 360 owners are in this thread for any reason other than to troll the PS3 users.

EDIT: I didn't mean that to sound like I was singling out you as trolling, Smues. I was just explaining why I feel it's annoying.

I don't really play games online. I don't even know what my PSN id is. Maybe I'll look it up sometime.

Yeah, I'm ps3 exclusive as well but rarely play online. I just can never give a shit to get online and play against other people.

I'm an Xbox player, but I've been thinking about switching over to a PS3 for some time now and I'm just interested in how the whole scenario is playing out. This is very much like the PR nightmare Microsoft suffered for the RROD, and I like to see how Sony is trying to fix things.

So Sony is asking people to use their e-mails and dates of birth to reset the accounts.

Just one problem. The hackers have all this information. So, yeah... Fail much?

The only reason they even realized this was a bad idea was a THIRD PARTY informed them of such.

...big companies are extremely stupid aren't they?

I'm sorry...why is it extra annoying from people who own both and primarily use the XBox? There's a reason they do that. Many actually.

I said who only own a 360 or own both and primarily use the 360 (ie: never even set up a psn id). It's annoying because they act as if MS has never had any issues with anything they've ever done. MS are the kings of tech related fuck ups. It's funny how fanboys will forget that when it's their direct competition who are taking the heat.
