Usyk vs Hunter was slobberkbocker, Gvozdyk is a beast and Lomachenko is out of this universe

Sick ass fight. Could have gone either way if they'd reached the end of 12. Joshua looked burned out halfway through the fight. Found a second wind and made it happen. It'd be nice to see heavyweight relevant again.

Re: Boxing 2016-2017 Thread

It's kind of amazing all the casual boxing fans who weren't expecting this kind of one-sided beatdown and now view Canelo as this super unbeatable monster. They are going to be in for a bit of a shock when Golovkin beats his face in this September.

Re: Boxing 2016-2017 Thread

I think Canelo can win and I don't base that on this fight in any way. Golovkin is slowing down.

I'm not outright picking him but I need to see what the odds are. Might bet on him.

Re: Boxing 2016-2017 Thread

If JCC Jr. had a different name, nobody would give a shit about him and he probably would have lost more often and never gotten some of these big fights. It was cool to see Canelo dominate but even I didn't think it would be that much of a mismatch. JCC Jr. looked like a punching bag.

Re: Boxing 2016-2017 Thread

I didn't watch it because I thought Canelo was gonna dominate him. Canelo is just on that tier right below the GOATs... which is why I think Golovkin is gonna beat him.

Yeah, lost in the madness of this week...Ward and Kovalev are fighting again.

I think Kovalev is going to push a lot harder for the KO this time.

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2716206-former-ufc-fighter-tim-hague-in-icu-with-serious-brain-injury

Tim Hague got KO'd by a legit Canadian boxing prospect named Adam Braidwood and is in ICU right now. I hope he is okay, and this should serve as a warning for MMA fighters about what boxing can do to you if you don't respect the sport and take it seriously.

Braidwood used to play in the CFL and is 8-1, with that only loss occurring when he was doing it as a sidegig while playing for Edmonton. It was against Jordan Mein's dad of all people, who has a lifetime of experience. But since taking it seriously he's been looking like a decent prospect, knocking out some mid-level fighters. Even got that Mein win back. Not the kind of guy a traditional MMA fighter should step in there with.

https://youtu.be/-e-KdPHabUw

He's been training for a long time and was a legit athlete, will be interesting to see what he can do. He needs to work on his defence but he has time for that. For a guy that won Strongest Man competitions for Washington State football, he moves p. well and is really good at headhunting. Really, he should just learn how to sprawl and dominate MMA, he is 1-0 there.

Re: Boxing 2016-2017 Thread

At 17:25, about the last 25 seconds of the fourth round are insane and like something out of pro wrestling. It's worth watching but Braidwood gets hit with one shot and rather than retreat pulls a Max Holloway and laughs as he rolls with Eric's biggest shots, and the local Quebec crowd and announcers are overselling it all. Braidwood then throws one counter that had more impact than all those other shots combined and he damn near kills Martel-Bahoeli to end the round. He finished the job in Round 5.

That's how you put someone over. That kind of personality and backing it up in the ring right after, that sells PPV's. Hopefully he keeps winning and they don't throw him to the wolves too soon.

Re: Boxing 2016-2017 Thread

Hague was finished by TKO in boxing/mma FIVE times in the past 20 months. He should not have taken this fight, no matter who you want to blame. In this fight alone, he was knocked down FIVE times, once per minute it lasted.

When you come into a fight with that kind of brain damage, and then you take that kind of punishment in one night...

From sister of Tim Hague, on reports the local boxer has died:

"He has not died. That is inaccurate. We are all sitting with him now."

Still in critical condition, but this could just be a 'last rites' situation. Still, I'll wait for news confirmation, but Wiki is normally a good source and they confirmed his death.

Well, he's brain dead. So he's dead anyway.
