Nothing to see here

Nothing to be worried about Santa Clara, San Diego, and San Francisco have issued similar declarations.

These declarations will be gone in no time brother. Don't panic anytime soon even though that's literally the only thing some people in this country understand. I remember the last time people were told not to panic at this scale and an entire city wound up underwater with no food. I know the Trump administration is definitely the people I trust on a daily basis to keep me updated and tell the truth.

I give it about four weeks before people are full out shitting their pants because a lot of the dry goods they should have bought for just a couple dollars are gone. Milan went from being Milan to in the process of being locked down over the course of a week or less. You think that won't happen here too?

"When it spreads.... uh if it spreads uh 15 people everything is fine." "If you can count on the reports from China..."

This is by far the stupidest moment of many stupid moments. Pence is the doctor in charge of stopping this btw.

Asked about making Pence his point man on this, Trump says, "Anybody that knows anything about health care, they look at the Indiana model. And it's been a very great success."

I just read this article that's a couple weeks old. In a weird way, the fact that quarantines are under jurisdiction of local and state governments made me feel somewhat better but Trump & Pence can and probably will find a way to ruin things for everybody.

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — As thousands of Taiwanese students went back to school on Tuesday (Feb. 25), 578 were found to have a fever.

After the end of the Lunar New Year break for primary and secondary schools, which was extended due to the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak, 578 students registered a fever on the first day of classes, announced Education Minister Pan Wen-chung (潘文忠) at a press conference on Wednesday (Feb. 26), according to CNA.

I work for the state so I am pretty lucky in the sense that I have a lot of leave and could potentially work from home on an extended basis, if needed. The shitty part is I have to travel a lot around the state in April so hopefully we will stave it off (no reported cases yet in my state) until I get done with that. We also have a bunch of idiots who show up to work hacking and coughing all day. I never thought I'd be the person who would do this but I said fuck it and bought a shit ton of water and some non-perishable food items, as well as toilet paper. The food is garbage (Chef Boyardee, Ramen, etc.) so the price wasn't too bad. Worst-case scenario, I will be eating Campbell's chunky soup for a few weeks if this blows over.

Funny part is nobody I know has even mentioned it but they all live in this "perfect," post-college middle-class bubble where they think nothing bad will ever happen to them or their kids because we live in a generation where terms like "war" or "famine" or "pandemic" are foreign to us because this is America by God

I bought a massive amount of rice, beans, and some canned goods.

Also had planned and am still going to drive a few hours to see my grandma on Saturday, but now realizing that this is going to happen, this could be the last time. She has pretty much all the health conditions and the age of someone who would die, she lives like 90 minutes away from a hospital, and can't transport herself anywhere. I also can only see her like once or twice a year.

The good thing about elderly people is that they normally have less interaction with large groups of people where they could potentially contract the virus. If she lives in a rural enough area, it may have "moved on" or burned through the population before it reaches her area.

I have friends back home that live in an extremely rural area. Like "15 minute drive to the grocery store area." It's pretty crazy to think of them having contact with anyone who even has 2 to 3 degrees of separation from the virus source (it's a fairly poor area). I think America being so spread out could potentially help but once travel season starts it could blow up even those more rural areas.

That's true, but unfortunately she isn't super rural and a lot of people stop in her town because it's between Bakersfield and Vegas. Most of the people who live there also have to commute to Palmdale (just outside of LA) or Bakersfield for work. When my grandpa was alive I know they had an amount of food stocked that would have survived the apocalypse, but its been two years since that happened.

This would be hilarious if it wasn't so serious. This is like putting a bunch of atheists in charge of a church.
