Dragon Age: Origins

I bought this game a few days ago and I'm loving it, but I'm wondering if I should have gotten the PC version instead.

Ah shit, I bought it, and its pretty decent in the hour or so I played it.

I'm totally hooked and I have no idea why, just sat and did all the origin beginnings for each story and I'm totally hooked. Think I enjoy being Bitchzilla the Noble Dwarf Warrior the most.

By the way play this:

Dragon Age: Origins

Well I did two more Origins. Mage and City Elf. And if every Origin was apart of the party, this is what I've gathered from so far:

The Human Noble Origin - This origin is strictly a male origin. Why do I say that? From what I've gathered playing the other two different sexes Origins, I simply can't see this being a female origin route. Also a lot of the banter on Aedan's (default name) side flows that much smoother than if it was of female origin. Not that its a fault of the writers, but it just feels more solid as a package.

As a class, I think this would be the standard knight class. Sword and shield type, defender of justice, yadda yadda yadda. Just because of many of the questions and responses are what you would get from the standard knight. I also think that he would eventually take on the Champion role because he would lead the charge into battle. As far as what Aedan would equip, I would probably say he wields a sword with his shield, along with heavy mail.

Attitude wise, Aedan probably is very stoic and very wise for his age. He's a great fighter that clearly has been scouted by Duncan and his wish to become a Grey Warden. Though I do think that his stoic place is a shield, simply because he needs to be that way. I think he's willing to use whatever means to accomplish his goals, though nothing that crosses his moral fibres.

He would definitely get along with Alistair, Leliana, and Wynne. People he'd be neutral with, would be Shale and Zevran. Morrigan probably wouldn't like him. I still haven't met the dwarf yet to gauge how well he'd be liked, though knowning the dwaves, they'd probably be drinking buddies.

As far as who would be in love with him, I could say that he probably never would find love during the game. I don't think he would get along well enough with Leliana to seek a relationship, and I haven't met any characters that he would venture himself with due to his knightly vows.

The Mage Origin - While you can be either Elf or Human, this is more a Human origin, simply because there is no other Human Origin. Another problem I see is that I can't honestly see Jowan being so comfortable telling you that he's getting married with a Chantry unless you are male. Also, it would make more sense if it was a male simply because of some of the banter with Morrigan.

As far as to what type of mage he would be, considering his power, I would think he's purely a primal mage that just throws out mighty spells. I'm not sure as to what specialization he is yet though. I'm still debating that.

As for the attitude, I would lean him more to the guy who does not like authority and wanting to break the rules as long as it does not hurt others. I definitely do see him helping out the First Enchanter when given the option simply due to realizing that Jowan will screw everyone over and not just himself. I do also see him breaking some things that have some moral issues, like breaking into the phylantcy. Though I think that after seeing what Jowan did, I think he stays true to being a good man.

People he would get along with would be Morrigan, Leliana, Wynne and Shale. Neutral would be Zevran and the dwarf (yes, he and the dwarf would be at each others throats, cliche, I know). Alistair would be the only one he wouldn't get along with because of what Alistair is. Though along the journey, I think that would lessen into a neutral position.

As far as in game love interests, I think that Morrigan would probably be the closest one, simply because they aren't that different in who they are and would attract themselves well.

The City Elf Origin - I went female with this one and only female, and simply put the writing and the things that go on in here only make total sense. From what the father says, to the choices you make, to the actions that need to be taken, everything makes much more compelling sense if its the female role.

As far as to what type of class, Kallian (default name) gets boost under Warrior for dual swipe. Most likely she would be a dual wielding warrior, though she would likely use whatever weapons were the best she could find. She would wear medium armor so as not to fatigue and also specialize in beserking because she would just jump head long into battle.

Attitude, she's a fiery young lass like her mother (Duncan says this as well as her father) and will do whatever she can to rile people up as she gets a certain thrill out of it. I wouldn't suggest though that she doesn't at least have some sense of honor, because she would turn herself into the guards during the end of her Origin. I do think she will do whatever is necessary to get the job done which would bother some companions. I do think that after her Origin, she will come to hate humans, though with her companions that will lighten as the game progresses.

Speaking of companions, I think she would get along well with Zevran and Shale. Neutral would be Morrigan and that's simply because apostates are treated terribly so Kallian would begrudingly accept her somewhat. Leliana and Alistair would be hated at first, though I think both characters having proven themselves to her and would move to neutral and liking respectively.

As far as love interests, I think Alistair would be the one. Why do I think that? Simply because of her fieriness and her attitude would definitely attract Alistair's attention towards her and I think vice versa, since she seemed to not like her fiance in her Origin story (and Alistair is perhaps as opposite as can be).

If you could have all the Origins together I would probably say this is how each party member fits into the story:

Aedan - I think Aedan would be in charge for the group. Simply put he's got his head properly on his shoulders. I haven't seen the Dwarf Noble yet (he's supposedly son of the King) so I can't say for sure, but Aedan simply seems to be the only character that has the most wits about him and seems like the type you would put in charge of the group.

Male Mage (I totally have forgetten his name sorry) - I think he would serve as a way to Alistair to open up to mages. I think the two would eventually be friends. I think though that he would want to put any important decision making away from himself due to what happened to Jowan, and thus defer (so far) to Aedan. I think he would also get along fine with Morrigan, though I think he would end up in the middle of Morrigan and Alistair's spats and often end up getting told to shut up from both of them.

Kallian - I think she would be the reckless one of the group, always causing unnecessary trouble for them and also doing a few questionable things that would make people squirm. Though she would be the first one to jump to another's aid. Since she would have a dislike of humans, she would definitely not be the lead character of the group.

I also think there would only be one Warden of the 3 (probably 6, I need to do the other 3 to be certain) and I do believe it would be Aedan. I believe that since Duncan actually went out of his way to try to recruit him, as he was really there for him, I think that he would've been the only character who actually got to be a Grey Warden in truth while there. The Mage I can't see being the Grey Warden because he wouldn't've stepped up in the time to show that he was able to be a leader and a "warrior" in the time till the camp. I also can't see Kallian going through with the Joining because she would be too reckless during that time. I also can't see the Dwarf Noble being it, simply because the Dwarf Noble is heir to the throne. I also can't see the Dalish Elf becoming the leader simply because they would not know the ways of the rest of the world and be at a disadvantage, and we're not even going to talk about why the Dwarf Commoner wouldn't be it.

...yes, I do realize that I have thought about this way too much, but such is my life at the moment.

Finished it, give or take 40h playtime. Dwarf Noble, Warrior. More detailed thoughts later when I feel like typing more, but I'll generally say I loved it aside from a stretch that made me want to tear my hair out when the AI started feeling snarky and killing me repeatedly.

Going to start over as a Mage, Arcane Warrior.

This game's got my interest, the combat system is it turn based or do you have free control over your character sort of like Fallout 3?

Yeah the last real big fight of the Ashes quest just about drove me nuts.

I've built up a rogue, but to be honest I should have just made him a dual-wielding Warrior. I've got him decked out in plate, don't worry about sneaking anywhere, and basically just teazm up with Alistar (sword and shield) and either Shale or Dog with Wynne in the back healing and just smack the shit out of everything. His dirty fighting keeps things under control for the most part, and he does a pretty crazy amount of damage. Hence the plate, since he gets aggro'd pretty quickly. If I really wanted to, I'd jack up his strength to the point I could put the blood plate on him then really jump in to the middle of everything. Still haven't managed to kill either of the dragons yet I've encountered, but I think I might get one of them soon.

Its free control over your own character, though you can pause and shuffle through your characters to input commands, though the AI does the job so well that you don't really need to worry about it.

As far as party goes, I find that using Alistar (Sword and Shield, Massive Armor), Aedan (Two Handed, Heavy Armor), Leliana (Bow, Medium Armor), and either Morrigan (Shapeshifting With Healing, Robes) or Wynne (healing with primal, Robes) works just wonders. Leliana can drag most things into range, and you just pluck them away.

Also, yes, I do realize that earlier I wrote all that wonderful stuff concerning if you could have every character from every origin, but that's not possible since whatever origin you take, the others all get the worst end for their origin.

So for Aedan, he dies because Duncan isn't there to help fend off the people. Jowan kills the Male Mage when he injuries all the other mages (honestly I don't see how he survives now that I think about it), and Kallian gets executed for harming the Arl's son Vaughn (as I heard that Vaughn ends up living at another part of the game) and starting a "rebellion".

I kinda figured that the reason why I couldn't get into the Alienage was because whoever you didn't take died after I played it and realized what it is Kallian does.

I'm really tempted to play a Ranger and see what its like to just sit back and snipe things. Might be some fun.

The alienage opens up during the landsmeet near the end of the game.

I finally completed it last night some 43hrs into it. Thats EPIC for a RPG, and i loved every minute of it. I completed the majority of the sidequests, but some I just couldnt be fucked doing.

Final battle:
The Archdemon is harder than Felmeth, but at the same time easier, as there are ballistas (gotta love how that rymes with bastilla) that you can choose to fire constantly at the archdemon till its health is non existant, then fight your way through the darkspawn and inflict the final blow, then choose either you or Alistar to kill the demon and thus die yourself.

The ending:

I expected alot more, we have either Alistar/Myself/Anora becoming the ruler of Ferelden, and basicly you then choose what you want to do. Then you can talk with the remaining members of your party, venture outside and we have text based endings for everyone your character interacted with and helped out during sidequests etc. Then the game ends and the only place you can go to is where you can "buy" the Golem control rod via DLC... as im banned, my journey has ended.

Downloadable content? Damn. Is the game fun for those of us that don't hook our 360 up to the internet? Or is the DLC must have?

DLC gets you some early awesome equipment, a chest to store swag in, 2 abilities, several quests, some level up items, and an additional party member who is all sorts of kick ass.

Okay I'm beginning to find this fairly frustrating.

These 12-15 on 4 battles in the Alleyways are killing me over and over.

Yeah that got on my nerves too. Always had Liliana going after the mages with the bow and arrows, and myself (warrior) or whoever was tanking crowd controlling, with Wynne healing. It really helps at the higher levels when Dog can crowd stun with Howl or whatever and my War Cry (Champion specialization) knocks everyone down. But yeah, those huge against all odds fights get annoying.

Haha, I had to turn the difficulty down from hard to normal due to some of those bits, but I don't mind them too much. Still loving this game, and every time I think I must be near the end, the game opens up even more. 30 hours played and only 58% World Explored!

Haha could be because you don't have the DLC, you get about 3 extra locations to go because of that.

Well, you get the Stone Warden included in the box and that's better then the Keeper's one (though it does give you some new talents and a place to keep stuff).

Plus the best sword in the game if you wander around a lot or get lucky enough and a decent set of armor..
