Yeah, next time I play, I'm rolling a Dwarf. Orzammar and the Deep Roads have been the most compelling adventures so far.

I've heard city elf is the best origin. Any truth to this?

That's what I picked. It's pretty badass.

So... how bad is The Fade exactly? After reading here how tedious it is, I mentioned it to my friend who has completed the game and I think his exact quote was "I haaaaaaaaaaaated that part."

That bad?

Really boring. You get a lot of stats but it's not fun to play. It's basically a big puzzle, and depending on your main characters build it can be a pain in the ass because of the blood mages in there. For example,I had my 4 man party set up perfectly, but it's just your main character in the fade. I had him as a warrior, so when I ran into blood mages, I was screwed.

The Fade is the entire reason I'm not playing back through the game.

The fade is not THAT bad. Yeah it's annoying and a bit of a pain the first time, but it's not game breaking or anything. I've played through it three or four times now, it's passable. And I enjoy being able to change into a golem and what not.

There are some satisfying fights there, I didn't mind it at all, but I'm the only person on earth that thinks so.

Yes, city Dalish is the best origin by far. Its probably the most compelling one for me. I also personally have a preference of the female route over the male route, simply because it felt more true to me.

I would rate the origins like this:

City Dalish - The one origin that hooks you easily, and deals with many subjects that will make you want to kill people. Which you get to do.

Dwarf Noble - This origin is just a step down but highly likable still. Though I played my main character like he was a prince who if he became king would sooner or later be assassinated because the Nobles don't like his ways.

Wild Dalish - Both Dalish origins are very well done. In all honesty, the only reason why this is a step down from the Dwarf Noble, is because it sorta goes emo every now and then, and we've got Alistair for that. And he's probably the best emo of any game.

Dwarf Commoner - This origin is pretty well done. Not much else to say because it was the last origin I played, and I'm not really recalling it, I'll need to play it again.

Human Noble - <_< Yeah, I said it should be the worst, so hold up before you lynch me. Human Noble is one of those ones that you could tell they cut back. You never actually see your Human ever do anything noblish. It also comes across as half finished, which considering they cut out the Human Commoner, this makes sense.

Mage - Ah, now I'll tell you why I put Human Noble over Mage. Because Mage has the most head fucked up thing in it. You need to spring a trap, but everyone and their fucking mother gets the shit kicked out of them, even though its 5 fucking Templars and supposedly the best Mage in the Circle (I'm assuming that's how you get to be First Enchanter). Even more so, the guys who were attacked farther away from you are in critical condition, but you, who are at point blank range, are TOTALLY FUCKING FINE! You should be DEAD. ...that and being a mage totally sucks in this game due to friendly fire spells are nearly everything.

That's why I played on casual during my mage play through. It would have been so annoying having to micromanage everything with friendly fire on.

I thought the Human Noble origin was fun, due to the stuff with Arl Howe. Tim Curry busts out a pretty fantastic line on the Human Noble when you meet up with Arl Howe again in Denerim.

Howe kills the Human Noble's family. Human Noble is not very happy with him. Later on...

The Warden: After this Howe, I'm going to slit the throats of your wife and daughter.
Howe: Isn't that precious? Is this where I lament the monster I helped create? Let me show you how it's done: I made your mother kiss my feet before she died, it was the last thing your father saw. Meet my sword, and change that.

Plus, end game spoiler:

Human Noble is the only one that can end up as King or Queen of Ferelden.

Human Noble was definitely better than Dwarf Commoner.

I don't know, I didn't think the beginning was great. Don't get me wrong, Tim Curry is the fucking man, and Howe was like the villain I always want to kill again and again. And as I said, I need to play Dwarf Commoner again, I don't think I remember all that much about it.

...wait, you mean you can't marry Alistair if you are a female Dalish or Dwarf? ._. I was seducing him as a Dalish Elf for the humor of being the first Dalish Queen. Fuck.

Return to Ostagar DLC will launch January 5th for $5. Why in the hell was Warden's Peak $7? I can't imagine that RtO will be shorter than it was. There's also rumored to be a disc based expansion launching in March that will extend the story past the current end, and raise the level cap.

I rolled up a human mage. I like this more than the thief, I think. I'm playing on Normal difficulty. For those concerned about friendly fire, just don't bring a party of 4.

Doesn't friendly fire only apply to difficulties above normal? I thought casual and normal didn't have friendly fire.

Maybe not with damaging moves...but I've definitely frozen plenty of teammates on normal with Morrigan's magic. So FF in that sense of the word is possible.

Bioware is releasing a full on expansion pack in March called "Awakening."

15 hours+ of new gameplay... new characters. All that happy stuff.

Tell me. Are they ever going to fix the loading time issues with this expansion?

It takes minutes to load up...

I don't have that issue.

I saw a rumored price of $39.99 for the expansion. Is that typical? Seems insanely high to me.

Alistair is not a big fan of the decisions I make. I'm afraid he might leave my party.

Not if it's installed on your hard drive. That solved any of the loading problems I had.

He'll leave if you let Loghain join your party. I don't know if it's possible to get him to leave prior to that.

That's not happening. I made up my mind to kill that fucker the instant Duncan died.

Alistair's main gripe with me was:
Allowing Lady Isolde to sacrifice herself so Morrigan could go to the fade and kill the demon.

-31 approval from him for that move.

I love using Alistair as my group's butt monkey. The guy just takes it constantly from Morrigan, Zevran, and myself.

The mage is fun to play. My usual combat MO has developed into casting Glyph of Repulsion, and then lightning bolting the shit out of shit.
