Outstanding game, anyway. Best story mode for a fighter, IMO. Wish there was a 1p versus mode though. Instead of having to go through the arcade, it'd be nice to just pick my own opponent for a single match.

Hope Rain gets the dlc treatment, too.

Man, MVC3 did this too. Is this the new trend? Play online or go to hell?

Let's not think about the sequel. guys. This game works because it doesn't have any shitty new characters or any of the lamewads introduced in the PS2 era. If there's a sequel to this (and there will be) that's what we're gonna get. We should just enjoy this brief resurgence of Mortal Kombat while we can.

My first thought was "those franchises are owned by New Line", then I remembered New Line Cinema is a division of Time Warner. That would be cool.

Which Freddy? First film Freddy or Slapstick Freddy. Because him turning Sub Zero into a cool glass of icy water and then drinking him would be sweet.

The first answer to that question would have to have the answer will it be Englund Freddy or Haley Freddy.

Jason it doesn't matter because...well, Jason is Jason, no matter who wears it.

Most will probably think Hodder though given how many things he took via Part VII with the psychic girl.

More than likely Englund Freddy since Rorschach Freddy was utter shit and tanked. Yeah, and Jason is Jason. There's no "likeness" of Kane "I'm the best Jason, even though I was in the worst F13 movies" Hodder when it comes to Jason like there is with Englund & Freddy (ie: you can actually see his face in the makeup).

Also, who owns Ash/Evil Dead these days? They did a comic of Freddy vs Jason vs Ash which makes me think they're somehow under the same banner.. how kick-ass would that be for some MK DLC? :)

Got it today - I am amused by one of Sonya's throws being a Stunner (which became a snapmare when I fought Raiden, not sure why).

Reminds me of the rumored Freddy vs Jason vs Myers movie.

Sonya's "stunner" move changes depending on which way you're pressing on the controller. Everyone has 2 throws. So, with Sonya, if you press forward and throw, it's the stunner, if you press away and throw it's a snap mare. ;)

Perhaps if the game came with instructions and not a merchandise catalogue I would have known that.

Oh that fucking manual. I know game manuals aren't what they used to be, but most games still have one with a couple of pages inside that gives you the basics of how to play the fucking game. But not Mortal Kombat!

This is why the pause menu now contains move lists.

Are you saying you never paused the game?

I think what he is saying is that it's fucking ridiculous that they can include an 8-10 page full color booklet schilling Mortal Kombat merchandise, yet not include a regular fucking instruction manual.

I like'em. Just the right amount of Honey Mustard, but not enough to overkill.

Wait, wrong thread. If the move list shows the commands for two different throws I just didn't read it clearly - I just knew there was a throw button. I probably would never even refer to instructions, I just thought that pamphlet was really stingy. Did I really need that to come in French too?

Remember our youths, hanging out at arcades, hitting the pause button on the console and asking our opponents to excuse us while we looked up commands from the move list? A different era, I tell you.

I love seeing a fully realized 3D Courtyard level, and even more, love that those weird looking guards make an appearance too

The move list does show the different throws. Hell, there is even a trophy/achievement for performing both of every characters throws. There is also the training tutorial.

Also, this is not 1987, Smues. There is no need to waste money printing manuals when all of this info is in the game.

Did anyone else rent games from video stores that provided laminated photocopies of the insturctions on large paper linked together by a binder ring?

Nope.

Both places I used to rent at...Blockbuster and the video store in Shop Rite when they had it, put the instructions on the back of the box and typed them up themselves.

Was easier back then since it was the NES/SNES days.
