Watched Vivarium (2019) because it was constantly recommended by Prime and I'm a fan of both Jesse Eisenberg and Imogen Poots.

Fantastic Twilight Zone concept (A couple get treated to a house tour in a suburb where all the houses are literally the same & soon find themselves in a labyrinth of homes, forced to raise a baby boy) unfortunately stretched out to movie length. Very solid first half but a tedious second half that doesn't quite keep up the engagement of the first half. The plot kind of dissolves after the initial setup with not much in the way of explanation going on so you kind of have to make your own inferences and determinations as a viewer as to what's going on and
there's zero explanation behind this alien race? using a vivarium to force multiple people to raise its offspring
.

6/10 more because I liked the actors & the concept. The first half was great and I liked some parts of the second half but it's clear the concept was stretched too thin.

Fans of "Tucker and Dale vs Evil" rejoice (I liked it but didn't love it), it's director also made this. Also, I've heard the book it's based on is good (I've enjoyed the two Adam Cesare books I've read)

Got my ticket to see The Monkey tomorrow, looking forward to it. I've heard some mixed to mostly positive word of mouth.

Good stuff overall. The 1st half is much stronger partly because it leans into comedy (and works) while the 2nd half kind of has to propel the story forward/wrap things up so it struggles a bit more on that aspect. A lot of Stephen King tropes come in, as expected, but it was an entertaining watch for me and the deaths had a lot of that Final Destination vibe to them in a good way.

6.5/10

Yes, Monkey had some Final Destination vibes for sure, and I enjoyed the comedy/horror balances, I thought they really towed the line pretty effectively. And never expected Theo James to really overachieve like this either in the duel roles. This was Perkins first film that really came across more fun/hokey/wacky versus a more serious and dark cryptic and mysterious tone. And then amped up gore to the max, more then any of his films prior.

I stayed after the credits for a teaser of the next Perkins movie, I was left a bit intrigued and similar to Longlegs it felt like they were not going to reveal much beforehand.

My standards have really dropped, because this looks kind of fun. In a stupid late 90's straight to video Uncle Sam/Rumpelstiltskin/Jack Frost sort of way.

I watched the last ten minutes of Pooh on Shudder a couple months back (because Anna, and the Apocalypse was up next), and I was surprised that it looked better than I was expecting. I’m sure it wasn’t a good move, but not as cheap looking as I thought…for those ten minutes.

It's bad...but I still liked it better than Terrifier 2.
