It was a few years before my TV watching ways but it just seems bizarre that ABC was like "You know who could be our next big family sitcom star? Billy Connolly!"

Other vague recollections:

1. There was an episode where the Fat Guy rescued the Redhead from something...I think drowning? And to repay him she either goes out on a date with him or pretends to be his girlfriend? Either way it didn't end well.

2. The Sensitive Tough Guy read a poem he wrote about the Hesseman character. Perhaps he read poetry in other episodes, but I don't remember.

3. An episode where a kid new to the class charms everyone but it eventually comes out he doesn't know how to read. It's not surprising that someone illiterate made it that far (failure of the educational system), but wasn't this show centered on an AP-type class? An I misremembering something here? (Possibly.)

I watched Head of the Class every weekday morning during the summer of ‘96. I was excited because I remembered Brian Robbins as the host of the Pictionary game show that aired several years earlier. I was hoping to see at least one Billy Connolly episode before school started but the syndication package didn’t get that far. Hesseman left the show because he thought it sucked and said as much in interviews during its run.

Anyway Khrystyne Haje was the hottest girl on the show but I just found out via Google that she dated Doug Stanhope? Eww

Those producers have to be trolling IMO. James Franco doesn't even look like Latino.

(I nearly used Oscar Isaac as an example of a white actor who can pass as Latino but then I found his full name is Oscar Isaac Hernandez Estrada and he's half Guatemalan-half Cuban*. He shortened his name to not get typecast! #KancelKamala)

(*maybe they should have cast Oscar Isaac as Castro! He's a better actor and afaik, not a sleaze!)

The first half of Steven Soderbergh's Che is a comprehensive view of the Cuban Revolution and a Castro movie is not needed at all tbh. The film is part of the Criterion Collection for a reason. Che is also far more interesting than Castro so what I'm telling you here is that if you haven't seen that movie, you should.

Also, a lot of actors don't want to play Castro for a variety of reasons. It's inherently controversial for one thing, secondly the project isn't going to make money so it's hard to get quality talent to put the movie together before you get to the point of casting. And what will a movie about Castro show? What won't it show?

Just discovered while looking through my channel guide that a network called Rewind is airing Head of the Class (two Connolly-era episodes) right now. This will be the first time that I've seen it, or even been aware of it airing on real TV in 26 years. I forgot Michael DeLorenzo was on this show near the end.

Head of the Class didn't get much syndie play because of musical rights issues. It was on Nick at .Nite around 2003 or so. That's the last time I remember watching the show.

Head Of The Class used to get reruns on USA (I think it was part of their awesome summer block of old American Gladiators, Parker Lewis, Facts Of Life, and Just The Ten Of Us for a little bit). I just remember Dan Schneider insulting a Russian.

His behaviour since the injury has been outright bizarre at times. Mind you in fairness, I don’t think he was wrapped all that tightly prior to his injury.
