This will be really cool. Hopefully Willie Mays will be able to make it to next summer to see a MLB game in his high school (and Negro Leagues) stadium.

I like that he wears #44 like Eric Davis, seems like a natural comp minus being a lefty and taller.

I was at the Angels-Rockies game tonight and Ohtani-Trout hit Back to Back HR’s and of course....the Angels lost.

One of the more impressive numbers about Luis Arraez hitting like a demon (now sitting at .402) is that he has 22 BB to 15 K.

EDLC is a switch hitter so he has times he will be batting righty like Davis. Davis approved and possibly encouraged EDLC to wear 44. Davis has been involved with the team for a long time and does a lot of development/scouting with the younger players in the minors so they are very familiar with him.

They just asked Votto for a comp. on Elly. Only name he could give is Mantle. No pressure kid.
I’d comp him to Dave Winfield possibly. But he’s a player with absolutely elite tools. The question on a player like that is how well he can translate that to pitch selection. Mantle had power and speed but what made him special was his OBP.

Angels scored 25 runs in a game where Ohtani & Trout combined for just 2 RBI(!)

It does seem like the baseball gods were working their magic by having Oakland go on a huge winning streak into (and including) the Reverse Boycott game then them losing nine in a row after.

Teams further than the Mets from a playoff spot, as of June 28...

Oakland A's
Washington Nationals
Kansas City Royals
Colorado Rockies

That's the list.

Mets' owner Steven Cohen is holding a press conference before tonight's game.

Rarely known sports facts crossover…TIL that the Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Angels are the only MLB franchises to never lose 100 games in a season.

I’m moderately surprised the Angels haven’t since they have been around for 60+ years and had a lot of crummy seasons.

I don't expect anything out of the ordinary in the Cohen press conference today. Just a bunch of basic mindless corporate rhetoric mixed with tired sports cliches. Nothing will change.

And if they suck just a bit more the .Rockies have a shot at losing 100 this year

A lot of expansion teams start terrible. The Angels were an exception. On July 4, 1962 the Angels led the American League by half a game over the Yankees, this is their sophomore season. They went 41-42 the rest of the way and finished third. It took the Angels fourteen seasons to finish last and to this day they have finished last just six times. I see the Angels as a franchise that has constantly taken in past their prime free agents that never puts them over the top, but keeps them mildly competitive.

They are on pace to lose 100 this year and looking at their team history, I am really surprised they haven’t lost 100 in a season. They have lost 90 or more games nine times in their thirty year history. Difference between 90 and 100 losses in scheme of a baseball season is pretty small.

The Rockies though are kind of an NL version of how @alkeiper described the Angels. They are usually in the middle of the pack payroll wise but they rarely seem to spend the money wisely.

Red Sox are 12-1 against the Yankees and Blue Jays and 31-41 against the rest of the league.

This is most confusing Red Sox team since the Jimy Williams era.

I don't know really. Verlander and Scherzer have huge contracts so I doubt they can be moved.

Tommy Pham and David Robertson seem like the most likely to be dealt.

Starling Marte has been so terrible I don't know why anyone would want him.

Maybe Adam Ottavino but again he hasn't been that good.

Outside shot is Jeff McNeil but not likely.

Mark Canha seems likely. Most of the veterans are either under big contracts or underperforming relative to their otherwise regional contract. Scherzer is obstensively under a one year contract but next year is a player option so you have to assume you're on the hook for it. And I don't think you want to trade someone like Pete Alonso.

Forgot about Canha. He likely will be dealt but he really, like most on the team, hasn't been that good this year.
