I mean, thinking about it, the world of Death Wish 3 feels like what they tried to turn Gotham into at the end of the last movie. Should've leaned into it.

Down to 34% on Rotten Tomatoes. Started at 64% out of Venice. Last movie that free falled like this Wonder Woman 1984. That at least topped out at 58%, but it started at 92% surprisingly.

I actually thought WW84 was decent for what it was trying to do but the 1st one was such a legitimately good movie that there was no way it was going to match the hype/reach its levels (even gave it a 6/10... I should re-read my review of it at some point) but this sounds like it's just really bad on all levels.

I remember reading that Phillips intentionally tanked Hangover 3 because he didn't want to do it, but the money. It turned into a Crime drama with light comedy elements instead of a stupid buddy comedy. He might of done something similar with this.
I think maybe Philips is just an incredibly overrated director who should never have been given the freedom to make the movies he does. I don't think we need any theories that he's trying to sabotage stuff tbh. We've already seen that Phoenix has been getting out of control on other projects recently. It's a toxic combo that was doomed for failure.

I'm just speculating. No problem, I won't bring it up again. He's super arrogant though and it wouldn't surprise me. Him and Phoenix are a dangerous combo and neither care about the source material.

Todd Phillips has the largest ego, good lord. Not having test screenings and going to Venice without anyone knowing the final product were really stupid moves.

Another article I read said that Phoenix came up with the Joker musical idea in a dream and originally wanted Phillips to collaborate in making a Broadway Joker musical before the sequel was greenlit.

Hopefully a movie gets made about the making of Joker 2 in 15-20 years.

By that time, there will be various reassessments of it, which means there will be people who think "no, this is good"

Buried in that article is that Joker 2 was the first Todd Phillips movie that Bradley Cooper wasn't a producer on in a while. Apparently, Cooper would talk Todd down from some of his more outlandish ideas for the first one. Without Brad, Todd had free reign.

After rewatching Old School last night for the first time in years, I will not tolerate Todd Philips hate. Can we go after Adam McKay instead?

I like The Hangover more than Old School. Galifianakis>>>>>>>>Will Ferrell imo. I loved Old School at the time because of Ferrell, but when I rewatched I found Vince Vaughn so much funnier.

I'm sure this movie sucks but I can only roll my eyes at a rag sheet that basically functions as a studio lapdog putting forth the notion that studio executives were somehow victims here.

Warner Brothers took some damage too. This was Zaslav's first greenlit movie after he took over. I'm getting Schadenfreude from the whole thing for everyone involved with the production except Lady Gaga.

So I finally went ahead and saw this over the weekend as it dropped much quicker than I expected at the discount theater. I figured for $2 I can at least get a chuckle out of it. I guess my expectations needed to be lowered.

This felt just on numerous levels like there was an intentional attempt to just make the movie as disjointed and tone deaf as you could get. Lady Gaga was incredibly underutilized in this film, to the point of just pure ridiculousness that what is even the point of her being in this shit? It was just kind of jaw-dropping at how other than the musical numbers, she had little to no impact in what little narrative of the story there was and she just kind of faded off by the end of the film.

The musical numbers too were just so strangely thrown in the middle of stuff that it didn't transition even remotely well and the musical numbers literally added nothing to the story. Phoenix doing musical numbers was like nails on a chalkboard level of enjoyment. I felt like 3/4 of this movie, if not more, was straight up a dream sequence within itself, some like the musical numbers were more obvious but even the stuff with Phoenix and Gaga felt like it could have been also dreamed up to a degree by the main character.

This just overall fucking sucked, period. This never should have been made and the conclusion to this story has nothing of significance other than holding the lead so far this decade for the most awkward sex scene in a mainstream film as well as the most dumpster fire of an ending to boot.
