For the spoiler. I think they wanted to put something that could work as an ending if that needed to be the case. It was the end of their WB run. They went to UPN for the final two seasons.

Finished season 5 of Buffy.

so Buffy just dies, huh? Was this a case of them thinking it wouldn't be picked up for a 6th season and when it did, conjured up some convoluted reason to bring her back?

I wasn't really feeling the last few episodes of Angel season 2 with the Pylea storyline. As much as I enjoy Gunn, I think Lorne might be my favorite character now. Hope he sticks around.
I've found myself liking the Pylea arc on re-watches but I'm not so sold it had to be multiple episodes the way it was. The most important contribution it gave the show (obviously) was the introduction of the character of Fred though.

Pylea just seemed too random. A lot of these season you could either kinda see where things were going, or after the fact understood how they got there. No chance with Pylea. I think it would have worked better as a midseason storyline.

Towards the end of season 6 and Tara is by far the MVP of the season. Show is missing something without Giles. Dawn has not improved as a character and I can't stand Anya. Even though Warren and his goons being the main antagonists of the season leaves somethong to be desired, shout out to Adam Busch who I've been a fan of since the Mystery Files of Shelby Woo.

Over to season 3 of Angel, not liking Baby Angel and the dumb love triangle between Wesley/Fred/Gunn. Lorne is still a highlight.

On the final season of Buffy.

Evil Willow and the return of Giles was entertaining. Warren killing Tara was unexpected and he deserved all the shit he got afterwards. I'm GLAD Xander didn't marry Anya. Fuck Anya.

Season 4 of Angel

Angel's son is played by the dude from Mad Men? I know him best starring opposite Patrick Stewart in the 90s classic, Masterminds! Also, I was very disappointed to read that the actor who plays Lorne died in 2009. He's the best part of the show!

Overall, I think Angel has much stronger characters but Buffy is a more well-rounded, entertaining show if that makes sene.

I finished Buffy and was satisfied with the ending although I didnt think the last season was very good. Felt really disjointed at parts.

I'm on the last season of Angel and holy shit, it's gone off off rails in terms of silliness with Gunn becoming a lawyer through an experiment, the episode with the Mexican luchadores and the one where Angel becomes a Muppet. I do like that Harmony is back, however.

Last season of Buffy was super uneven. It took Buffy a couple episodes, and tries to kill one super vampire, and that’s after years of Slayer strength, and training. Then the annoying shits get their powers, and instantly start dusting them. Was also lazy that they just happens to luck into a magical medallion, and super axe that they get at the very end to save the day.

The last season of Angel was hurt by a massive budget slash. It showed; so much of the season was spent dicking around in the office. Also seemed like it was kinda building to almost nothing, then with a couple episodes to go they pivot to the master plan.

Really didn’t help either show that they announced Spike going to Angel after the end of Buffy for their last season.

I really like Spike on Angel because David & James just had a natural chemistry and the characters played so well off one another. I do think a lot of the plot kind of lost its way on both shows but I will die on the

Man, the ending to Angel was hot garbage on a stick.

"Hey, let's all prepare for this huge battle for the future of mankind and LOL, see you never".

Both shows had their hights and their lows.

Hopefully this thread won't be bumped again. You can't make me watch Dollhouse!

On season 2 of Dollhouse. Topher and Madeline are the standouts but this might be the weakest of the Whedon shows I've seen (haven't watched Firefly). Parts of the plot are confusing. Cool theme song though!

Been re-watching episodes of Buffy on COMET and Season 6's Normal Again is still so great. The editing between both 'realities' is done so perfectly with dialogue or Buffy reaching out to Joyce/then touching Dawn instead. It touches enough on the actual plot lines going on but Buffy's break at the end is really sold by Sarah's acting (which is great throughout the entire episode) and they use Buffy's institution scenes just enough to sell it as a possibility and see why Buffy could/would choose that.

Legit is still a Top 10 of Buffy episode for me probably.

Watched Firefly last weekend. It was...OK? I don't know if it's because I can go on Disney+ and pull up any number of various Star Wars shows, but definitely not seeing what all the hype is about.

Yeah it was good, and yes it was cancelled too soon, but there's at least a hundred better shows

I think if you had watched it when it happened it would have seemed like a bigger deal. It was very different for its time but the formula was quickly imitated and tweaked to death. For a lot of us at the time that was game-changing sci-fi.

It's also worth highlighting outside of maybe Star Trek (Deep Space Nine & Voyager both ended around 1999-2000 I think), Stargate SG-1, and non-US stuff like Doctor Who, there just weren't many notable Sci-Fi shows out there at the time.

Battlestar Galactica dropped in 2004, a couple years afterwards but that was instantly a high water mark Sci-Fi show. The Sci-Fi Channel leaned into starting to make their own series but even Eureka started in 2006 and Warehouse 13 was 2009.
