I hate them both but the Taipei Deathmatch was better than any match Knobbs ever had as a single. But the Nasties were better than Bad Breed ever were. They're kind of the same.

I’m going to e mail Segunda Caida and ask that they never do a “What was Brian Knobbs best singles match?” series (and preemptively ask @AA484 not to post about it if they do).

Answer is his match Vs Fatu at UK Rampage ‘93 btw.

Yeah and that’s fine as one off “Hey! A Nasty Boy is doing a singles match!” novelty but not as a full time singles wrestler. Especially in hospice era WCW.

One good thing about Vince Russo WCW is he wrote off Brian Knobbs by having him thrown off a building.

It’s funny as hot as wrestling was in ‘99, Nickelodeon ended up picking the old, roided, and coked up pimp and his porn star girlfriend as its celebrity guests for the Kids Choice Awards. I am assuming though that they thought it’d be the colorful space cowboy Macho Man.

After watching Quiet on the Set though, maybe they were very familiar with “What Up, Mach?” era Savage. Dan Schneider definitely suggested that they get covered in slime.

It legit is probably a combination of them knowing Savage from the WWF days only and the WWF being too big a target for censors and advertisers.

That said this is 100% a Mankind gig and it's too bad he didn't get it.

Oh yeah, I know why they didn’t pick any WWF guys cause ‘99 was their least kid friendly year but even if they were just picking from WCW, there were a solid half dozen options better than Savage.

Booker felt like a star and can be funny while also was in his coolest era. There's probably not many scenarios I would ever suggest him over Savage but for things like this at that time? 100%. Slimearooni gets replayed for 20 years.

WCW was given 2 "specials" to fill time during the NBA strike. They put on their A game of top notch matches.

Match listing for November 10:
Rey Misterio, Jr. vs. El Dandy
Perry Saturn vs. Sick Boy
Booker T vs. Disco Inferno
Steve McMichael vs. Fit Finlay
Goldberg vs. Meng

Mat listing for November 24:
Scott Norton vs. Kaz Hayashi
Disco Inferno vs. Scott Putski
Chavo Guerrero, Jr. vs. Tokyo Magnum
Stevie Ray vs. Van Hammer
Juventud Guerrera vs. Prince Iaukea
Wrath vs. Horace Hogan

Ray/Hammer could be an all time stinker if they gave them any sort of time.

Adding to my WW3 98 talk from the other thread...
I guess I forgot Duncum Jr debuted only days before the PPV and was given a mini feud with Jericho for a few weeks before WCW gonna WCW and Duncum was lumped into the midcard hell.

I wonder if Duncum got even this mini push due to Bischoff being a little nostalgic for his dad?

Whats funny is I remember what Bobby Duncum Jr. looked like pretty clearly, but couldn't tell you a damn thing he did outside of the West Texas Rednecks.

My only Bobby Duncum Jr specific memory is during the aforementioned World War 3 ‘98, during his match Bobby Heenan reminisced about managing Bobby Duncum Sr in an uncharacteristic, genuine, dewy eyed way. It was oddly kind of sad to hear Brain reminisce about the days when he actually enjoyed working in the wrestling industry during a garbage show.

Heenan is lowkey one of the reasons I have a hard time watching WCW sometimes, just because you can hear the hollowness of his soul and the genuine vitriol he and Tony had.

It is kind of funny how much the tide has shifted toward Tony in the past five years in his verbal wars with Heenan. Heenan seemed like he was in so much pain during that run, which would have made it hard to seem enthusiastic even if the product was great but really showed during WCW’s coffin on roller skates era.

That's because Tony genuinely was awful most of the 90s. He was a great announcer who stopped both caring and had his passion killed and became a shitty soundboard at worst and video game commentary at best. AEW Tony is great because you can tell he is having the time of his life and has remembered why he loves wrestling. But I'm not going to pretend like I'm always going to harbor resentment for a lot of the Heenan interactions because I love Heenan that much. But I also am 100% confident they'd have buried the hatchet if Heenan had lived just a couple years longer.
