No idea who Dave Dalton but that is a TREMENDOUS nut shot sell.
Dalton is the guy who ran some local indy shows around here for a few years about 15 years ago. Other than the TNA guys he would bring in (mostly the Team Canada guys like Roode and Williams) about the only name anyone would recognize that came out of there was Portia Perez (he's listed as one of her trainers on her Wiki page).

summary for those who think this TL;DR. Last iteration of the WCW TV Title was the title they were going to use for the planned Cruiserweight Titole they were going to have in '94-'95 and even had the word Cruiserweight on the title for some time.

Koko B. Ware, Tito Santana, and Brad Armstrong were jobbed by WCW deciding not to do the cruiserweight division two years earlier than they did.

I don't see Koko getting over after years of jobbing, unless maybe he goes heel and even then it's iffy. Koko was adding weight for years and probably would be best suited in a wacky tag team. Scorpio, Liger and Pillman had already set the bar way higher than Koko's hand clapping and dropkicks.

I can see Tito doing some good stuff with Regal, Eaton, etc, but I'm again unsure if the fans would have seen him as more than a cast off who last sniffed a real push in mid 1988.

This sort of makes me want to do a thread on a Hogan-less WCW. I have some ideas in my head....

I thought Koko was who Hogan wanted to be the face of the cruisers. I can't think of a good match he'd have (maybe Malenko by just force of will) but if he's a heel it changes things. Koko working heel was great stuff.

Tito would rule Prime and do alright on Main Event. Like he'd be the guy to save Dave Sullivan and get an awkward insert into the DDP feud fighting Maxx all the time.

Brad was cursed so no surprise.

The TV title should've been a "real" title after Luger won it. Both credible and perfect to elevate, as it should be.

Also remember that Bischoff tried to sign the Bushwackers in early 96 but they were still under contract to Vince

All those Whackers/Amazing French Canadiens matches on the weekend shows and first hour of Nitro...

Everybody but Brody: No
@BruiserBrody : Yes

I think they finally had the right idea at the very very end of its existence where it was the WCW Saturday Night title. They should have done that three years earlier and had it be the focus of the C/D and under shows.

I mean, tbh, I don't have a TON of complaints about the WCW TV Title division. It still felt like a solid midcard title in '98 (Stevie Ray winning the title via legal order aside) and even into early '99 when Big Poppa Pump and Booker T were feuding that. After that it sucked but so did everything in WCW at that point.

Barbarian deserves way more love, as do the Faces Of Fear. Barbarian was one of my go-to guys in Revenge.

The most pointless thing I wanted with regards to the TV title was Savage winning it from Prince Iaukea and it being part of the DDP feud.

Mandela Effect. Randy Savage did challenge Prince Iaukea for the title but it ended up in a no contest due to the DDP tomfoolery.

Did Kip Frey get run out of WCW or did he just say "Frig it. This place is doomed." and bolt? I've heard conflicting versions of that story. I don't think he was a good long term option.

Purely on paper, Bill Watts seemed like a great fit for 1992 WCW. It's super athletic roster and he had a good history with those but they should have just immediately said "No thank you!" when they realized he hadn't watched wrestling in the FIVE YEARS since he sold UWF. Things had changed so much since 1987 and it was an absolutely numbskull move to hire someone who wanted to take the industry backwards.

Strangely/sadly, it's a lesson that hasn't quite seeped in with wrestling promoters, who seem intent on reliving some sort of past glory. Bill Watts wanting to relive Mid South 5-10 years later doesn't seem any less stupid than WWE trying to relive the Attitude era and any number of indies wanting to relive ECW for the past couple decades.

K Allen Frye's WCW was much better than Watts'. Superbrawl and Wrestle War '92 are among the best PPVs in wrestling history. I don't know if he quit or was fired (the "Bill Watts brought in to cut costs" theory has never made much sense to me) but his time in charge was better than Herd or Watts. Best War Games match, brought in Jesse Ventura, sustained pushes for the Steiners and others, Dangerous Alliance, the light heavyweight title, etc. Watts kills the Dangerous Alliance, the light heavyweight division by taking away top rope spots, and pushes the Steiners among others out the door. That should be a talked about part of Watts's legacy: a guy named Kip who didn't care about wrestling was better at it then him.

Kip threw money around. I think he had giant bonuses for the best matches on the show. I see no problem with that myself given it's a Turner property and would longterm make a difference, but I'm a dickhead.
