I'm not sure Jake the Snake and Barbarian at the top of the card really gave it much shoot credibility. And while Steve Williams was a legendary real wrestler (etc), Gordy wasn't, and he pushed two other legits out the door in the Steiners. So if that was his goal, less cartoony/more legitimate, it was kinda meaningless even before he left.
Speaking of those summer 1992 ppvs, Watts was really weird about pacing his big shows. At least during that WCW run. Instead of the awesome Sting-Cactus match or the Rude-Steamboat ironman, he closed Beach Blast with a 30 minute draw comprised of a lot more restholds than suplexes. GAB ends with heels winning the tag finals and the world title match, with a lot of unused talent (Ron Simmons, Cactus, etc).
But 30 years later I do remember he put a lot of good matches on tv that year.
