Something I've noticed between having NCAA and no NCAA draft when running franchises.
With no NCAA:
- Most first and second rounders are ready to play. You don't need to worry about awareness factors, nor do you need to worry about if they are reliable. You don't usually need to bench them right away.
- Finding a B potential 3rd or 4th rounder is like finding a needle in a hay stack. If you find one, more power to you. Which I find is more of a challenge.
- When you see a player, you know exactly the type of player it is. You don't need to worry about it.
- You can pretty much forget about 5th or less rounders. There's so few Cs, Ds mostly, and quite a few Fs. If you happen to stick a B, you got hugely lucky.
- Any players not drafted, usually end up on the waivers. Though, there's never any Bs, but always cheap reliable sources of back ups.
With NCAA:
- You can usually find B potentials all the way to the later 4th and 5th rounds, sometimes even 6th to 7th rounds. However, as punishment you can end up with a player who's awareness rating is in the tank or primary skills aren't there. Sure, its fine drafting a project, but when you draft a first rounder and its a project player... Yikes.
- The downside of this is that any player in the first round will be looking for money near what real position players make. This would be ok... Except if you end up with the above situation. It drives you completely insane when that happens.
- Its frustrating if you are using NCAA as a place to watch players play, and when they become eligable to be in the NFL, fall from what should be a 1st round draft pick for sure, all the way to the 7th round. And no, they don't get to be that good. I really wish they would get that fixed because I would kill for that.
- Possession receivers becoming speedy receivers (or vice versa), power backs becoming useless (55 strength? WTF?), cornerbacks have top speeds of 80s but lordy can they shut down speedsters at the line, and those are just some of the things you hafta contend with. Scouting becomes nearly a necessity. And resets. Lots and lots of resets...
- How many players end up on the FA? Well, that depends on how many fullbacks didn't get drafted. Yeah, that's right, you probably will have a ton of B potential FBs for your troubles. And not a damn thing you can do about that.
- ...well, actually, you can use them as TEs (usually rate BETTER as them) or if they aren't too bad cheap back up HBs.
And that's about it. While I prefer using the NCAA to get some more B potentials, I really dislike the facts above that I consider using the normal style more and more. Honestly, however the draft works it should work all the time unless you do a different season. Not just reloading the file.
Oh, and Shagg Makino is a person who earned the right to be in the game. There is not real life player with that name.
