The Phillies have acquired Carlos Estevez from the Angels.

Ricky Vaughn thankfully remains in Cleveland.

The Yankees were down to their last strike but come back to tie the Red Sox in the 9th and win it in the 10th in one of the most insane games of the year. Despite being dreadful for nearly 2 months they are just now 1 game behind the Orioles for 1st place.

Christopher Morel and 2 prospects traded by the Cubs to the Rays for Issac Paredes

Love this trade. Trading a guy with negative WAR for one with positive WAR is the no brainer move. Morel is a genuinely great person. So happy all the time and a great clubhouse guy. He talks and is friendly to everyone on the field regardless of opposing team or umpire or whoever. But, other than home runs, he couldn't contribute. His approach at the plate is awful and his defense is bad too. Hope he prospers in Tampa Bay, but change was needed and Paredes is already one of the better hitters on this sorry offensive team.

I was expecting the Cubs to sell, but with this news and the news that they are one of the 6 teams interested in Snell, maybe they are going to buy and make one last shot.

If the Rays are ever trying to figure out their attendance issues, being sellers at 52-51 while the Mariners were buyers at 53-51 might be at the top of the list. You can't get people emotionally invested when your team is just a continuous revolving door.

Fittingly enough this past weekend series with Cincinnati drew 63,778 which is a season high for the Rays.

This is more than the Yankees or anyone else else have drawn for them in a series this year, so the dependable reliability of drawing old retired Yankee and Sox fans in Florida isn’t assured anymore.

Maybe drawing 20k on a good day is good enough if you can get the right visiting team in town but it isn’t the stadium, after the novelty of the new one wears off, it’ll be the same as Tropicana with none of the weird charm.

The new stadium will be smaller so they'll force up attendance a bit with intended scarcity. But otherwise they have the same basic problem. The drive from all points east of St. Petersburg is too long to do on a regular basis and St. Petersburg downtown isn't big enough to support a daily average on its own.

Three way trade between the White Sox, Cardinals and Dodgers. The Sox traded away Erick Fedde and Michael Kopech, there goes nine of their 27 wins. And Tommy Pham, one of two players on their club with an above average OPS+. The Sox are playing three games each against the Royals and Twins, who the Sox are a combined 2-18 against this season. They're 3-19 this month and have lost their last fourteen in a row. That 14 game losing streak tied a franchise record set by, wait for it, the 2024 White Sox.

After all the talk very few if any big moves made at the deadline. Seems like more than ever teams are unwilling to part with top prospects.

Eh, I'd argue there's a lot of solid moves being made but nothing earth shattering "big name" star type stuff. Not a surprise that the Marlins were big sellers.

- ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports the Rays are acquiring outfielder Dylan Carlson from the Cardinals.
- ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports the Dodgers are acquiring right-hander Jack Flaherty from the Tigers.
- Pirates acquired INF/OF Isiah Kiner-Falefa from the Blue Jays for OF Charles McAdoo.
- ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports the Orioles are acquiring outfielder Eloy Jiménez from the White Sox.
- MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand reports the Pirates are acquiring outfielder Bryan De La Cruz from the Marlins.
- Diamondbacks acquired 1B Josh Bell from the Marlins for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
- Mets acquired RHP Paul Blackburn from the Athletics for RHP Kade Morris.
- White Sox acquired RHP Jarold Rosado from the Royals for SS Paul DeJong.
- ESPN’s Jeff Passan reports the Padres are finalizing a trade for Marlins closer Tanner Scott.
- Guardians acquired RHP Alex Cobb from the Giants for LHP Jacob Bresnahan and a player to be named later.

Worst records through 110 games, since 1901.

1. 1916 Phila. A's (23-86)
2. 1904 Washington Senators (24-82)
t-3. 1932 Boston Red Sox (27-83)
t-3. 2024 Chicago White Sox (27-83)

I hate to say it but I'm getting serious doubts that the White Sox can reach the postseason.

Edit: The Span Finder only goes back to 1901. But out of curiousity I looked at the 1899 Cleveland Spiders and through 110 games they stood at 18-92. But they would go 2-42 the rest of the way.

I think practically giving Fedde to St Louis is just the thing to turn the Chicago ship around.

Blake Snell just no hit the Reds

This was also Snell's first career complete game and the first time he ever pitched into the 9th inning

"Aaron Judge joined some select company with his Major League-leading 40th home run in his first at-bat in Friday's 8-5 loss to the Blue Jays, becoming just the fourth Yankees player to hit 40 or more home runs in at least three separate seasons. You are probably familiar with the names on the rest of the list: Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Mickey Mantle."

Fitting to happen the day after the wretched corpse of an owner handed control over to his limp dick perma drunk rapey vibe of a son.

The White Sox won!

Today's White Sox statistic. Their current team OBP is .276. The last team to have a lower OBP was also the White Sox, back in 1910. Ed Walsh led the American League with a 1.27 ERA and went 18-20 for his efforts.

Will be interesting to see if Elly De La Cruz can cut his strikeout rate down to be even better. He's on pace for 210 K over 162 games, which would put him 10th all-time in a regular season.

I'm not one of those who is outraged at strikeouts these days but I don't think it's a coincidence that guys like Judge & Ohtani have been cutting their strikeout rates year to year and subsequently become monster hitters. Even back in the day, Mark McGwire was around 20-24% (he always came to mind as a big bopper who struck out a lot in that era).

At some point it has to be a chicken and egg thing. They became better hitters because they strike out less, or better hitters just strike out less?

Has the scheduling been this odd league wide? It feels so weird not having the Cubs play on a Sunday during the season. Seems like they usually get Monday or Thursday off. And having a 2 game series against the White Sox is an odd choice as well.

Two game series have been normal at least for inter league rivalries. For instance, Reds and Guardians have been doing two game series for years and I’ve always assumed other natural interleague rivalries operated the same, but perhaps not.

It's usually 3 for Cubs vs Sox. They used to do 2 three game series and they used to have a Cup that the winner would keep.

Oof... not a good look especially for a player who, while he's very open about his mental health issues, should know better than to use that phrase even in the heat of the moment. It's been 10+ years since the "bro movie" Hollywood usage of that word virtually got killed off almost immediately and it's one of the few words that people just don't use in any context nowadays unless you're trying to incite somebody.

I just saw the Guardians sent Anthony Gose down to AAA after one appearance. Can't believe he's still grinding. He was part of the Roy Oswalt trade many moons ago.

Today's White Sox note. The Oakland A's have the second worst record in the American League. They are on pace for a 68-94 record. The White Sox have 93 losses NOW. If we put the league standings in one table the White Sox are 22.5 games out of 14th place.

Apparently the highest the White Sox can get in next year's draft is the 11th pick? So they're having a historically awful season and they don't even get to benefit from it.

Yeah I guess there is a new rule that teams not part of MLB revenue sharing cannot pick in the lottery in back to back years. Sox picked 5th in 2024, so they can't pick in the lottery in 2025.
