The implication is Savage/Gonzalez is something happened as well and I want that.

It happened. Macho Man was Gonzalez’s opponent on the house show circuit pre WrestleMania.
This tag team match looks like only video documentation of them being opponents but it’s an unused Coliseum Video exclusive so it looks pretty good.

When Gonzalez first went on the road, they paired him with Virgil before realizing “WTH? This guy is almost as bad as the big good!” and he just wrestled Savage and Taker on house shows for the rest of his run.

Ngl though. I am curious as hell how bad those Giant Gonzalez Vs Adam Bomb matches were going to be.

It would have been pure formula, but Hogan could have done the full Zeus match w/ GG in 93.
If Hulk Hogan’s ‘93 run hadn’t been such a huge flop at the box office, you have to assume we would have gotten some proto Dungeon of Doom style booking with Hogan fending off all the hosses that WWF brought in in ‘93.

Hogan/Gonzalez would've been hideous. As bad as Taker but for different reasons.

Savage's micromanagement would make something decent happen and he'd kill himself to prove it. Bret would've never left first gear and Gonzalez wouldn't be able to keep up anyway. Savage would play to him best or die trying.

Gonzalez put over Savage huge in one of his last appearances in 1993.
I feel like I saw a match where Savage squashed Giant Gonzalez after hitting him a bunch with a steel chair while the referee and Gonzalez were distracted by Harvey Whippleman.

Fake edit: Cawthon confirms it. Match only aired in Canada but must have been on YouTube at one point.

Bad News Brown was the “name” that Western Canadian indies frequently brought in when Jericho and Lance T. Storm were getting their start in the early ‘90s. Jericho has a few BNB stories in his first book.

I read at least 2 if not 3 of Jericho's books. Old Man Brody is losing it.

Bad News was around a long time and always was a good sized star. If he were born a decade later he'd get the respect he doesn't seem to have, and some of that is no doubt because Ed Whalen wouldn't have hacked up probably his peak era. He was so great.

He didn't retire until 1999 and still hit Japan pretty frequently. His work wasn't great of course but he probably still had something to offer beyond that. I always thought he'd have been a great manager in early ROH.

Not surprised that this match happened but I thought it’d be ‘01-‘03 WWE C show fodder not for the NWA World title.

And it did happen on a ‘02 WWE C Show too

The world was robbed of Hansen/Sid murdering jobbers weekly as the stiffest team this side of Vader/Sid.

Apparently post Starrcade there was a scheduled Luger/Vader vs Hansen/Mr Hughes match but Vader missed it for some reason and Tom Zenk replaced big Leon.

While looking up results I see some JYD vs Sid matches that had to be incredible for all the wrong reasons.

Al Madril was good. Didn't know he did anything with the WWF. Never would've been a star or anything on that level but he and Sal Bellomo is the kind of team I would love to see on weak Maple Leaf Garden shows.

I'm into both of those. Garvin and Zenk is like a before and after cautionary tale with an easy heel turn and Slater and Valentine are the ultimate crusty vet team. That's good stuff.

The Freebirds promise a mega mystery partner to fight the WCW Indians (complete w/Jim Ross using some casual Heenan-esque non PC humor) and instead bring out Barry Horowitz.

Apparently the angle continued a little bit longer:
NWA @ Montgomery, AL – Civic Center – October 15, 1990
Ricky Morton & Tommy Rich defeated Barry Horowitz & Dutch Mantel at 5:36 when Morton pinned Horowitz after a double dropkick; prior to the match, Michael Hayes, Jimmy Garvin, & Little Richard Marley entered the ring and claimed Morton made them sick and mocked Robert Gibson’s injury, with Morton & Rich clearing them of the ring

Worldwide – 10/13/90:
Chris & Mark Youngblood defeated Barry Horowitz & Tom Burton (I wonder if this was part of it????)

NWA @ Gainesville, GA – Georgia Mountains Center – November 12, 1990 (1,100)
Television taping:
Ricky Morton & Tommy Rich defeated Barry Horowitz & JW Storm; after the bout, Michael Hayes & Jimmy Garvin attacked Morton; moments later, Vader came out and it appeared as though he was going to injure Morton as the Freebirds had done to Robert Gibson but Vader instead attacked Hayes & Garvin

However before the angle:
NWA @ Gainesville, GA – Georgia Mountains Center – September 3, 1990 (500)
TV taping:
Michael Hayes & Jimmy Garvin (w/ Rocky King) defeated Barry Horowitz & Scott Armstrong at 2:29 when Hayes pinned Horowitz with the DDT; during the match, Hayes & Garvin cut an insert promo bragging about beating up Bob Armstrong at the Clash of the Champions; after the bout, they continued to attack their opponents, with Garvin dropping Armstrong with the DDT, until Tracy Smothers & Steve Armstrong made the save; moments later, Lance Russell conducted a podium interview with Hayes, Garvin, & King about King now being part of the Freebirds’ group

Horowitz worked mostly as a heel, but there are a few squashes he lost against heels on TV.
He may have had a mini angle with Terry Taylor as well. He works Taylor's debut (return) match and later interferes in another Taylor TV match.

---
WCW @ Gainesville, GA – Georgia Mountains Center – December 10, 1990 (1,300)
TV taping:
Konnan, the Big Cat, & the Motor City Madman defeated ?, ? & ?

So they bring in Konnan from Mexico and throw him in with Paul E's muscle against jobbers in a throwaway match???
