Since I live close to LA, the news coverage about this has been non stop.

For real. Coverage of MJ's death in the LA media is only dwarfed by three things in my lifetime: 9/11, the 1992 LA Riots and the 1994 Northridge earthquake. I'm in awe of the media circus at UCLA right now.

OJ Simpson?

R.I.P Michael Jordan. You were the greatest minor league baseball player of all time.

It is indeed a very sad day when MJ passes away. RIP Michael Jackson, King of Pop.

So MTV had some of the weirdest random shit on Jacko tonight, lots of celebs and artists calling in stoned or drunk talking about him, we got coverage of what everyone is Tweeting about him (WTF?) and then we get the random videos from the past, etc. The funniest interview was with Fat Joe who claimed it was "probably the third most saddest day of my life, yo." But they played some really obscure stuff on and off during the night for videos. Some fucking goofy ass video for Liberian Girl, I tell ya. Never had seen it before, never really need to see it again either but if it aint fucking strange, it sure was still surreal as hell now watching it, with everyone looking for him and shit.

Michael Jackson Liberian Girl

That would be all kinds of fucked up if he actually OD'd.

And on the subject of the idea that he wasn't a cho-mo just because he was acquitted twice, then it's certainly curious he apparently went broke from publicly admitting he paid off families of children en masse that were accusing him of the same shit.

Which generation? The last time he had a #1 hit had to be like 15 years ago. And his biggest era happened when I was...4 or 5? And I'm gonna be 30 in two months.

That's a hell of lot of losers then...I do have to admit that he got a free pass from most everyone though, at least it always seemed that way to me.

But anyways, as great as his Jackson 5/Thriller/Bad work was, I actually remembered his early 90's work most fondly with the Dangerous album and other songs, probably because I grew up on that being born in '87. I liked some of his later stuff too even though it didn't sell nearly as well.

True story, when I was a kid I honestly couldn't figure out what gender Jackson was from seeing the music videos on MTV. Yeah I know I was a stupid kid. So I had to ask my dad. It was also a long time before I realized he was black.

Anyone who was around to hear any of his major hits (probably up to Scream in 1995). Anyone who grew with the ridiculous media coverage (both positive and negative) about him. Basically anyone who grew up with pop culture from 1982-on was part of his generation.

I don't feel even slightly connected to his era. To me he was the guy who got creepier looking and had some weird court settlements. When you really think about it...you probably start to get into music at around, I don't know...6 or 7 maybe? Which would mean that there are people who can legally drink who would have been about that old when Scream came out. The guy wasn't musically relevent for a long time now.

Sad news. Made even worse by the fact I paid 8 quid to watch the shitty Transformers film. And then lost the car park ticket so had to pay a 20 quid fine.

What a shit night.

I wasn't around here for those things, but yes, it is crazy.

Nah, I know where you're coming from sabre, its not as if he's had much positive press or music contributions since the early-mid 90s. For the last 15 years he's been tarred as a potential demented child molester... allegedly. Now he's died, all that seems to be glazed over during the press coverage.
