Alright I've gotten to put some quality time in with the console. First things first...I love instant switching. My pet peeve of the 360 (which I adored) was that it was slow to load its main menu up. On this one it not only does that quick it also will flip you from game to game to app to TV in no time. It's beautiful. I generally have the controller in my hand to start what I'm doing but I have thrown out some voice commands to switch apps. Sometimes the controller will power down while I'm watching Netflix so telling it to switch apps while I turn on the controller is pretty natural. The voice commands have worked for me...just take a pause after saying "Xbox" and issuing it a command and it's good to go. I did plug my TV through it so last night I was flipping channels using voice. Mostly though it's just about the speed you can maneuver the menus. There's something inherently awesome about being able to quick switch to something else, come back later and have your game sitting right where you left it with just telling it to go back.I was playing some Killer Instinct last night and wanted to watch the Doctor Who movie so I used voice to switch to TV, told it to watch BBC America, watched the movie, told it to go to Killer Instinct and it was right on the spot I left off.
I've played 3 games. Killer Instinct is titties. It's so smooth and slick. I'm not a huge fighting game fan but it is fun to try to keep those combos going. I even won the one online match I played! That dude must have sucked.
Forza is great. I apologize to everyone on my friends list because my drivatar is out in the wild and he doesn't understand how not to ram people and take bad turns. Everyone but Broward that is...whose drivatar rammed me off track 3 times in the same race and made me finish in silver instead of gold.
Powerstar Golf is what it is. Hot Shots golf. Not a pretty game...but the constant challenges and seeing where people on your friends list have set shot records to try and catch keep you wanting to play another hole.
All in all I've had the system on and running pretty much nonstop for over 30 hours and it's dead silent and still cool to the touch.
I did pop a Blu Ray in to see if I had the misfortune of one of the faulty drivers...but it went just fine. The games were all digital downloads...which honestly I probably plan on doing all the time. If you didn't have to install all games anyway maybe it would be different...but since I can just delete and redownload as needed in the future anyway...I can't imagine waiting to pick up the games that come out on Tuesday when I can just download them on Monday night.
