It does make great baserunners very valuable. Even if that is the rule I think some very good baserunners will be able to fake going, causing the pitcher to step off a 3rd time, and get rewarded 2nd.

You get that kind of thing now. If a baserunner can get a pitcher to break their motion they force a balk. And lefty pitchers have their own gamesmanship over pickoff motions (god I wish this rule existed when Pettitte pitched).

Mike Trout now has a HR in 7 straight games, 1 away from tying the MLB record.

@King of Summer Kamala, come get your boy. I think he was a little off with these pre-season predictions

Sandy Alderson is out as Mets team president. Presumably after the season ends. Another great move by Steve Cohen

Judge is sitting at an absurd 57 HR with 18 games left. 61 (and 62) are well within reach. More interestingly, Judge has an outside chance at challenging Sammy Sosa's 66 in 1998 and 64 in 2001.

This was a great moment at the Mets game tonight. It was Gary Cohen bobblehead night, and these women brought a sign asking Gary to sign their bobbleheads. They were brought up to the booth, during the broadcast, and he signed them live on air. Very cool, and classy.

Mets have clinched a playoff berth as well with their win in Milwaukee tonight.

Hey Al, this would be the first time the Mets and Phillies both made the playoffs in the same season, right?

Although that wasn't possible till 1994.

Assuming Phils hold on (Brewers don't seem like a real threat tbh)

It's wild to think that this is only their 10th post season appearance in their history.
The expanded playoffs make it weird. Teams don't get credit for finishing in second place in a one division league in the '50s but now you can finish third in one of three divisions and make the playoffs.

The only expansion team with more than ten playoff appearances is the Houston Astros who will make their 16th appearance this season.

Three game series between the Guardians and White Sox starts tonight. Guardians are up four in the division, winning two of three essentially puts them in an unbeatable spot. But a White Sox sweep and it's competitive again.

We've also got Patrick Corbin sitting on 18 losses, starting against the Atlanta Braves.

Just insanity that Judge hit 60 HR regardless of whatever his final tally ends up being considering the names of guys who often couldn't hit 50+ in a season. Hank Aaron's career-high was just 47 while Griffey Jr topped 50 just twice with 56 in 1997 & 1998. Jim Thome did it once with 52 in 2001. Albert Pujols' career high was 49 in 2006.

It's highly unlikely he'll surpass Bonds but with 14 games left, he's got a chance to surpass Sammy Sosa for 3rd for single season HR record and an outside chance at surpassing McGwire for 2nd. Only three of the games are against teams jockeying for the playoffs (and even if you count the Orioles as a playoff contender, it's still less than half). I bet Rob Manfred is praying constantly that Judge surpasses at least one of the steroid mooks.

Stray thought here. Aaron Judge leads in all triple crown categories. .316/60/128. We know no one else is hitting 60. Jose Ramirez is the only player with a shot at 128 RBIs, Ramirez has 115. It's possible (and perhaps likely) that Judge's batting average will drop. But if he stopped playing today he might have the triple crown in hand.

Sandy Alcantara is still the only pitcher sitting at 200+ IP on the year. Carlos Rodon has a crazy 220 K in just 167.2 IP.
