Looking down ballot. Felix Hernandez received 20.6% in his first year. Of his ten most similar players, one is not yet eligible and none of the other nine made it past the first ballot. Dave Stieb received 1.4% on his turn. I don't know if Hernandez ever makes it in, but that seems like a promising assessment for starting pitchers of this era.

- Mets signed INF Nick Madrigal to a one-year contract worth $1.35 Million if he makes the big league roster.
- Royals signed RHP Carlos Estévez to a two-year, $22 million contract.
- Brewers and C William Contreras avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract with a team option for the 2026 season. He'll make $6 Million with a $12 Million club option.
- Dodgers signed RHP Kirby Yates to a one-year, $13 million contract.

I wish Milwaukee would've signed Contreras for a few more years.

Surprised and obviously pleased Pete is coming back. Don't have a crap year in your walk year folks! He turned down a 7yr/158 million dollar deal two years ago!

Opt out after one year so this is probably happening again next off season.

I wanted the Red Sox to make a move for him but can understand why they didn't with Casas locked in at 1B and a smattering of DH-only options already on the roster.

Cubs offered him 4 years/120 mil and he went for the three years. I wanted Bregman, but that price is obscene.

Now it says the Cubs are interested in Justin Turner. He's really old, but I think he's worth a shot. The Cubs lacked power hitting at times last year, and adding Tucker already improves it. But, Turner is another guy that could still produce homers in clutch moments.

Alex Bregman to the Red Sox. 3 yrs./120 million
Steep but he's a very solid hitter with a great eye. Hopefully last year was an aberration and he can get back to being around 80+ walks with 25-35 HR power hitting at Fenway. He's a slow starter for his career but hits an absurd .331 in August so maybe being outside in warm weather will help him overall.

I'm more pleased he can play 3B which could keep Devers at DH and Casas as the everyday 1B.

You act like Houston is a fucking ice box. "...being in warm weather..." it's practically 100* daily in Houston in August.

..and no, Daikin Park isn't THAT cold when the roof is closed to offset the temps.

Sure but Houston has a roof and uses it... From a 2016 article: "For the night game on July 6, the outside temperature in Houston felt like 105 degrees, but inside the air-conditioned ballpark, it was a comfortable 73 degrees." and from a 2023 article: "Houston had just seven out of 81 home games played with an open roof at Minute Maid Park last season."

Hot and dry weather usually leads to drier baseballs which travel farther when hit. The average temp at Fenway in Boston from June-September is around the 70s but more importantly it hits an average of 76 in June, 83 in July, and 80 in August.

I'm not saying Houston was an ice box but hitting in warmer temperatures should help Bregman at Fenway if it's a hot, warm day that he probably wouldn't have experienced in Houston tbh because the roofs would be closed (outside of April or some games in September per the 2023 article).

Cubs sign Justin Turner to a 1y/6m contract. Low risk cheap signing. He's old, but I think he'll do good in Wrigley in the Summer. Maybe he'll channel that streak when he killed the Cubs during the 2017 NLCS.

Surprised to see Turner has only played 90 innings at 3B the last two years. I would guess he's keeping the position warm for Matt Shaw.

That post was a nice reminder of old friend Travis Shaw.

Devin Williams was so ugly without a beard the Yankees were just bullied into ending their decades long policy on facial hair.

It seems like he's going to be Michael Busch's backup at 1B, and they are going all in at Shaw at 3B. Hopefully, doesn't backfire and Shaw has a great rookie season. If he does struggle, hopefully Turner can play a little more 3B than he has in recent years.
