I knew that was gonna happen and realized it this afternoon, but the referees need to use their heads and separate fighters who aren't advancing position. This has been a problem for 20 years now.

Ehh. It’s ok to not like a fight.

Max got screwed, and the ref let Jose take a few too many.

The primary thing to happen in a fight should not, and has never supposed to be letting the guy who wins the battle of wrist control without landing anything or advancing position dominating the fight. The point of these rules in the first place was to stop garbage pile Big Ten wrestlers from doing that and the enforcement of those rules has consistently slid backwards over the last few years.

Jorge didn't deserve to win or some bullshit like that, but the fighters needed to be separated many times during that fight. The primary reason of someone winning fights was not supposed to be some guy dominating the battle of holding hands while they're both standing up. Sorry man. The rules were supposed to prevent this, to prevent guys who fight like Mark Kerr from killing the sport. Because those guys were killing the sport.

Fights like these are entirely the fault of the referee. The guy was literally doing a can opener like Mark Kerr instead of hitting his opponent and the ref still didn't stand them up. You know what happens using a can opener as a technique in 2020? Literally nothing.

Also this guy struggled to do anything of value on the ground or against the fence against some guy who literally walked off the beach to take this fight. Jorge had literally nothing to offer for two or three rounds. This was the exact opposite of a good performance and Usman should be disappointed with himself. If he's not disappointed, the next time he asks Uncle Fester for more money, when he hears back from Fester he'll definitely be disappointed.

People complained about Jon Fitch doing this for years, they cut him the first chance they got, and he did it somewhere else, nobody watched it and he didn't make shit.

Made some good $$$ on Prochazka, Yan & Volko. Although the Volko result was BS in my opinion. Sucks for Max too because its not an easy cut for him so I wonder what his route is to get to another title shot.

Usman was always going to win that fight, 6 days notice or 6 weeks notice. If people want to say that they don't like watching his fights I completely understand it though I'm laughing now in retrospect at the people who called GSP boring because Georges never, ever had a fight that was as unwatchable as what happened on Saturday.

The criticism of Usman which is valid and needs to be addressed by himself and his camp is that he is not a fighter who is one-dimensional and bound by certain limitations, we've seen what he's capable of in the past but he's also now had enough performances where he's doing barely enough to win without extending himself that it's a concern.

I found the Woodley fight entertaining because of how badly he whopped a dominant champ and the Colby fight was also a pleasant surprise and he showed that he can bang out and had heart. On the flip side of the coin Saturday's fight, the Maia fight and Emil Meek fights were all stinkers and ones where he found himself against an opponent he could have easily done more against but for some reason chose not to.

Also the Max fight was a close fight but at the same time showed the issue at the core of things is the 10 points must system. You could argue that the two round where Max had Volk wobbled and dropped him should have been 10-8's but even if they aren't you can't tell me that Max winning the round by a 10-9 score should hold as much weight as the rounds where Volk won by a 10-9 score only by slightly outlanding Max and the significant strike count was a wash.

At the end of the first fight I remember thinking that it was close and that Volk might have done enough to steal the belt. At the end of the fight on Saturday night I was very confident that Max won based on what I saw happen. A fight can be close but also clear in terms of the result.

The Shields fight was pretty bad, but nowhere near this bad. The Hardy fight is the other one he gets called out for and he's actively trying to finish the fight several times during it and it feels more like he's just outclassing a fighter. GSP in these type of fights still looked really impressive and dominant. Usman while even winning every round doesn't look very impressive while doing it.

He got eye-poked to kingdom come in the Shields fight so he gets a pass from me on that one. The Hardy fight had multiple submission attempts and featured a completely dominant grapplefucking that resulted in 50-45, 50-44 and 50-43 scorecards. Usman was *just* active enough to avoid getting a separation and had a completely gassed dude in front of him who was of little threat. Way different.

1.3 million PPV buys, most purchased show since Conor/Khabib. Damn.

If this show did those numbers you'd have to believe that even with an average undercard that Conor/Masvidal does at least this buyrate if not higher.

I also loved how Lazzez countered the calf kick which is the new darling strike of MMA. I heard several that thudded on shin instead of slapping calf.

Prelims were infinitely better then the main card. Lazzez has a goddamn chin on him considering pretty much everybody Razzak has hit with those bombs has gone down.

With Ortega/Zombie and Yair/Zabit being booked up it makes sense to do Max/Kattar at this point and that fight better be five rounds. Calvin is the dark horse at 145 and I would rate him as having some of the best if not the best pure boxing in all of the UFC at this point.

Goddamn. That was a tough one to watch. Joe, along with Frankie and Cruz have been some of my very favorites for the last decade. Tough seeing guys like that getting smashed these days.

Joe being 0-4 in title shots under the Zuffa banner sucks because he's definitely one of the most deserving guys out there and has never not been a top five guy.

Having said that, the idea of Deveison moving up to 135 and facing Yan has me incredibly aroused so there's also that.

Seems like the titles are on the cream of the crop right now.

Average record breaks down to 20.625 - 1

And what's even more impressive is that in the cases of guys like Yan his only loss came in his fifth pro fight and Usman lost in his second. This is at least from a purely records perspective the most talented crop of champions in the sports history.

I think Till is probably going to get hurt pretty badly in the main event. His pseudo-karate stance where he darts in and out of punches is going to leave him wide open for the angles that Bobby Knuckles will bring to the table and even if it turns into a boxing match Whittaker was able to shut down Romero in the pocket so he should be able to do it to Till too. Till also had a very hittable dude in Kelvin in front of him in his last fight and was content to do barely enough to win.

I didn't even know that those tags existed; I'm going to be studying that for a while, to figure out how to do that.

Herb Dean smoked too much bud tonight. Some really bad late stoppages here.

I didn’t think the first one was too criminal. But Trinaldo (who doesn’t look a day over 60) had that guy deader than shit. No clue why that had to keep going.

Good win for Bobby Knuckles. But I felt like the fight was there for Till to take and he just didn’t. Nice that Till’s chin and gas tank held up.

I never bet fights online. But had I known Werdum was +600 to win by submission I would have created an account somewhere that very second.

Chimaev looks like he’s going to be trouble for anyone and everyone in the division.

I was really locked into Whittaker/Cowboy parlay, but you're right about Werdum, especially by submission. I think my buddy got on him just because I said he could beat Gus. (I'm a coward when it comes to betting dogs)

I forget who posted it on Twitter, but they basically said WW Twitter was pretty quiet last night, no call outs to fight Chimaev next.

I didn't see the odds on Werdum until the fight was starting - I would have been all over that even though I thought Gus was a bad matchup.
