Blind - Face To Face
Let's talk about pop punk for a moment.
Growing up, there seemed to be a pretty heavy backlash against pop punk in my scene and amongst my circle of friends. It probably had to do with the over-exposure of Blink 182, Good Charlotte, and other bands which leaned more heavily towards the 'pop' side, bringing kids who were going from trend to trend to punk shows and coming into what was a small, safe community for a lot of us. The irony of was that a lot of people would expend energy shitting on people for liking pop punk while knowing 'Blind' word for word.
The last few years, I've had something of a complete turnaround on the subject. I got burnt out listening to hardcore bands playing the same riffs over and over again, seeing kids with stupid asymmetrical haircuts comment on music that they couldn't possibly be old enough to experience or appreciate; on one level it was probably partially me seeing a reflection of myself at that same age (my hair was never that bad), and realizing how arrogant I must have sounded.
On another level, pop punk has an energy that I hadn't experienced in a lot time. It is exceptionally tiring listening to the same old hardcore bands playing the exact same style, and wasting time posturing and lecturing others in an attempt to maintain 'credibility'. Pop punk, comparatively, is just
fun.
Josie- Blink 182
This track rules. It's really poppy, and there are better examples of pop punk out there, but I can't pretend I don't like this song.
