SemiFinals are set:

Sabre Vs Shingo
Tsuji Vs Finlay

Finlay has grown on me this tourney but he's the one guy I don't want to win.

G1 Finals are set! Sabre Vs Tsuji! No real wrong answer here but I am really pulling for Zack. He deserves the win. I don't know if I'd have him with the title or not. I think it depends on how serious Danielson's retirement plan is. If they can get Danielson to come over to face Sabre than Zack should win the belt, because that would be the perfect blow off for their feud.

my power went out because of a thunder storm (sure don't rain for months until now) so I couldn't watch the Finals live but super happy.

Sabre wins and he made a shock announcement. He wants to have his title match on 10/14 at KOPW. So I have no idea what this means. Does he win the belt at KOPW and then drop it back to Naito at WK? If he wins at KOPW he'd be the champ for Royal Quest IV which they just announced.

I'm a hypocrite for it but I'm happy for Dory (if he is cognizant enough to realize what he's doing).

[ @Slayer DID YOU KNOW THIS WAS HAPPENING?
Unfortunately no as I've been bad lately with following puro outside NJ these last couple months with my own assorted personal stuff so your post was first I'd seen if it. I do see the event is available on Wrestle Universe for the next two weeks although it is an extra-PPV (¥3200 or ~$22 USD), but with the proceeds going to Takayama I could consider getting it (short match card notwithstanding).

To your other post, when MiSu was first doing the "make some noise!" arm raising gesture I thought he was doing a "get up!" for Takayama to stand up and was hoping for a similar moment to Hayabusa's post-injury walk (however briefly), but I'd also forgotten how bad his injury was comparatively. Still though, a great and touching moment, and thanks for sharing all that

Tanahashi announced his retirement. His last match will be at Wrestlekingdom 2026 (1/4/26).

What a career and most western fans only really saw the back half of it. A true ace in every sense. I guess he can concentrate on his office duties at that point.

There’s something fitting about the fact he and Cena are both “retiring” a week apart.

Both absolute icons of their respective worlds.

On the one hand I'm not surprised that Tanahashi is retiring given how rough he's looked the last year or two, but on the other I always thought he'd insist on sticking it out even if meant doing old man comedy stuff in openers. So for his sake I'm really glad he's decided to set a firm retirement date.

Wrestling won't be the same without him and NJPW losing yet another big name (even if he's taken a huge step back in recent years) is really going to have to work harder than ever to make new stars. Naito is not in very good shape either so who knows how long he has left.

Really happy to see Sabre finally get his big win in better news though.

NJPW Super J Tag League
A Block —
Clark Connors & Drilla Moloney
SHO & Yoshinobu Kanemaru
Robbie Eagles & Kosei Fujita
Hiromu Takahashi & BUSHI
Ryusuke Taguchi & Dragon Dia
Tiger Mask & Capitan Suicida
B Block —
KUSHIDA & Kevin Knight
TJP & Francesco Akira
YOH & Rocky Romero
The DKC & Ninja Mack
Taiji Ishimori and a mystery partner (will be revealed at NJPW Royal Quest this Sunday)
Paris De Silva & Jude London

Nothing really exciting here tbh. Putting Dia with Taguchi is a big waste of talent. I'm not familiar with Suicida or Silva/London. I've never been a huge Ninja Mack guy but he's been better since he got real ring gear.

They also announced the card for Power Struggle on Nov 4 (election pregame!!!)
NJPW Power Struggle lineup for November 4, 2024 —
Either: IWGP World Champion Zack Sabre Jr. defends against Shingo Takagi or SANADA defends against Shota Umino
Super Junior Tag League Finals
IWGP Global Champion David Finlay defends against Taichi
IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion DOUKI defends against Master Wato
IWGP Tag Team Champions TMDK (Mikey Nicholls and Shane Haste) defend against HENARE & Great-O-Khan
Hiroshi Tanahashi & El Phantasmo vs. EVIL & Ren Narita

Pretty safe to say it will be Sabre vs Shingo. Sabre and SANADA are wrestling at Royal Quest and they'd have to be nuts to have Sabre lose on his V1 in the UK.

Power Struggle: Sunday Night/Monday Morning

Here is the full card for Power Struggle:

  • IWGP World Champion Zack Sabre Jr. defends against Shingo Takagi
  • IWGP Global Champion David Finlay defends against Taichi
  • IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion DOUKI defends against Master Wato
  • Super Junior Tag League 2024 finals: Robbie Eagles & Kosei Fujita vs. TJP & Francesco Akira
  • Kenny Omega appears
  • IWGP Tag Team Champions TMDK (Mikey Nicholls and Shane Haste) defend against HENARE & Great-O-Khan
  • SANADA vs. Shota Umino
  • Hiroshi Tanahashi & Oleg Boltin vs. EVIL & Ren Narita
  • Dragon Dia, Ryusuke Taguchi, Tomoaki Honma, and Toru Yano vs. LIJ’s BUSHI, Hiromu Takahashi, Yota Tsuji, and Tetsuya Naito.
  • Taiji Ishimori, Gabe Kidd, Robbie X, Drilla Moloney, and Clark Connors vs. KUSHIDA, Kevin Knight, Jude London, Paris de Sila, and Katsuya Murashima.
  • Kickoff Match: Shoma Kato, Capitan Suicida & Tiger Mask vs Ninja Mack, the DKC & YOH
Sabre/Shingo is a sure fire MOTYC. Finlay/Taichi, Doiki/Wato, SANADA/Shoto and the Jr Tag League finals all have the potential to vary from show stealers to just there. I'm interested in what Omega is going to have to say and if he's going to build up anything. I'm sure they'd love to have him do one more match with Tanahashi.

Omega Vs Gabe Kidd and Ricochet Vs Sabre set up for 1/5 seemingly. Potentially Shota Vs Sabre on 1/4?

@Slayer I haven't watched Gate of Destiny yet but I saw the results of the Losing Unit Most Disband Match...SIGH

How does Z-Brats survive and not only Big Hug (one of/if not the newest face units) end but also Gold Class decide to end? I'm not attached to either mind you but ZBrats is so stale. The Dragon Gate heel stable has basically become Bullet Club to me. You can put a new name on it but they're all the same.

Forgot there was NJPW US show on tonight (330 pacific start time? come on) and it's half over now. Jack Perry showed up and attacked Tsuji to setup a 1/5 match is the first thing I see.
