GOTO IS CHAMPION! GOTO IS CHAMPION!

Fantastic fucking show with real story and character progression.

-Moloney debuts as a heavy and gets a big win over Shingo. He's got a really bright future.
-OKhan beats Shota in a good match but more importantly after the match when OKhan goes to shave Shota's head (as he'd earlier cut his hair in the road to shows) Shota grabs the clippers and shaves his own head and then lies in a dejected heap in the ring after, clearly foreshadowing some kind of big character change.
-Sanada was dressed like some kind of Persona Shadow and it was hilarious. Yuya made his return here as expected and the crowd adores him. He's going to be a big star.
-Takeshita can not have a bad match. Boltin got to look really good.
-Naito is beyond washed. Please let this man have a few months off or he's going to die.
-I was thinking as Tsuji/Kidd started neither could afford to lose so doing the draw was a great call. The crowd was going nuts for this. I wasn't thrilled at first when HoT came out but pulling the trigger FINALLY on HoT turning on War Dogs and making War Dogs faces is good business.
-GOTO GOTO GOTO GOTO. This crowd was fucking Rabid! They also completely sold the joint out. This is the Era of Goto!

It also sounds like they've disbanded Just 4 Guys. I'm expecting a big angle at the finals because they really need to do something to heat Shota up if they're determined to stick with him as they seem to be.

Watching Heat Wave '98 again made me want to go back and check out other matches from Hayabusa and Tanaka. This is the one I've seen rated the highest among the internet types with some saying it's the second-best match in FMW history (after Kudo/Toyoda), and it's damn good, but I still prefer the 5/5/00 match between them.

Non NJPW talent: CMLL mystery guy, MAO (DDT), Dragon Dia (DG), and NICK WAYNE

strong lineup.

Sakura Genesis was a good show. Shota is the next challenger and will challenge at Windy City Riot. I can't see Goto keeping the belt all year but it would be weird to have Shota win in the US when almost all the dislike for him is from english speaking fans. He seems to have won back most of the Japanese fans. Unless the idea is any heat is good heat and they're going to have Death Riders help him win, which is hilarious.

I ended up spending time with my new nephew instead of watching this live but I caught Tanahashi Vs Takeshita and it was amazing. Tana's best match in years and a perfect way to do his last match in USA and put over Takeshita.

well god damn. I don't know where they wind up, i assume NOAH/DDT if they're staying in Japan. Naito is incredibly broken down physically but he's still a huge draw.

He's been very clear in the past in saying he isn't interested in US Wrestling, going as far as saying he doesn't watch it. But how much of that was true I don't know. I don't think he has a lot to offer WWE or AEW tbh given his physical condition. There's some matches he could do in AEW if he was capable that would draw but I just don't think he'd hold up. It'd be another Ibushi situation.

Naito in AEW and especially WWE seems like a waste of time. He was probably my favorite wrestler in the world 7-8 years ago but he's gotten more weathered so anything outside of a few big shots a years, i don't think he has much to offer TK.

-------------

Some potential fun matches in BOSJ but the real stuff is them finally booting at least one faction from Bullet Club, Naito's last match (and BUSHI lol) in the company, Newman moving up to heavy, Stardom and other talent getting more roles on shows, etc. NJPW continues to be in a major transition period and it's becoming more noticeable that they're reacting to it. Whether all of those reactions will be positive is still to be seen.

HoT is out of BC and hopefully dead. Insane fucking cage match and Gedo took one of the worst bumps I've seen in ages. Just a fucking spectacle. Whole top of the card was really fun.

@Slayer I'm trying to catch up on DG and I just got Luis Mante seemingly going back heel and possibly becoming Diamante again? I feel like I missed a lot here can you explain this one to me. I know I could listen to the english commentary in theory but they only had JP track available plus you explain it much better!

If you're in chat tonight I'll be on for Dynamite

The last couple days I've taken in more puro than in some near-embarrassing time after watching Dontaku Night 1, the NOAH 25th anni with Ozawa/Kenta, and DG Dead or Alive. At this time I just have Dontaku Night 2 left, which for my overall time budget I just plan to watch the LIJ 8-man plus the two title matches. Was there anything else worthwhile from the undercard?
