I think you maybe can if you have ringers based in experience and less in name. McKean was right on the line, I think, and he had some baggage on both sides. "Wow that guy from Spinal Tap!" was equal to "Why the hell is Lenny on this show? I thought it was supposed to be cool," when it comes to age groups. Like you go for experienced but less recognizable people (at least in the sense of the audience) to set up the transition.

They didn't pillage In Living Color or Mad TV enough, even if the latter would be less interested than the former, I assume.

I seriously don't think I care. Not that it isn't interesting but there's other moments I just am more interested in. Besides, if this is a fictionalized movie, there is no way to cast it in a satisfactory way and even if they could I'd rather see a good movie with any one of those other personalities than a mixed SNL one. Like if you stumble on the perfect Belushi or Carlin casting, fuck this movie make those movies.

Time better be devoted to Billy Crystal whining about not being on the show.

Losing Phil Hartman less than six months after Farley died still seems so surreal and awful.

I hope Fly on the Wall does a Hartman special this week like they did for Farley.

I was reading a TV Guide from July of ‘94 and was surprised to learn that Lorne tried to get Bill Maher to join the cast for season 20. I’m guessing this would have been for Update. Given how many ringers they brought in that year it makes sense they would go to an established comic before the relatively unproven Norm. So if you think that season couldn’t have been worse, now you know better.

Paul Giamatti doesn't deserve to be there. His career will probably pick back up once Billions ends. I think he's going to be an excellent old man actor. He's just destined to play a sad old man and finally win that oscar.

And Elijah Wood still has a pretty good career. He just prefers acting in weird indie genre movies rather than blockbusters.

The implication is more stupid young people clearly know who Michael Serrazin or Steve Forbes are than who Jeff Gordon or Nia Vardolos are. I'm not going to pretend that doesn't agree with me.

As much as I loathe the modern generation and the sensibilities they like tend to force upon others, I'm not a fan of articles like this where the tone is either "you're old" or "these kids are stupid amirite."

Well tbf, it’s a list of 21ST CENTURY hosts that Gen Z doesn’t know so that falls on millennials inability to read entire article titles before maki g up their mind.

The Brady Bunch/Partridge Family sketch is a legit classic and by far the best thing Hutsell did/wrote on the show.

Interesting she brought up the Blossom sketch which I always liked and Mayim Bialik was not happy about it.

Mayim Bialik strikes me as someone who takes themselves very seriously.

I remember the marathon I did a few years ago had her alternately be not bad or leave an impression. Totally fine but got pushed harder than she deserved, but I was never like annoyed or anything the way I was many others. 90s Kristine Ebersole. When she evolved into Casey Wilson it all came together.

She was one of the random cast members I found on twitter during that rewatch too that also never seemed to use it.

Probably the best choice. Her run as head writer towards the end was rough but I think she's the only one who really gets it. I can't even think of anyone else.

I always thought it would be Tina

02-05 is one of the worst stretches of the show in history and it was under her reign. But... The other candidates are all too old (Downey, Franken, Smigel) or not a big enough name (Higgins, Shoemaker).

The only name I could think of was Conan and he'd never want that level of responsibility.

Had a fear Fallon would graduate, though.

There's always people complaining about women in charge, even if it's the stupid goddamn libtard show they don't watch because it hasn't been good since [name I grew up with].
