It literally is a case of he's Chevy Chase and you're not.

Don Novello was first member of writing staff to host as well. Franken & Davis were supposed to co-host in Season 6 though before a writers strike (mercifully) killed rest of the season.

Although all three were featured players in Season 5 and made regular onscreen appearances with original cast so it feels different than when John Mulaney got to host. Although x2, didn't Mulaney do some WU desk pieces when he was a writer? Late '00s/early '10s are a blindspot since I had no access to non streaming television.

Man I wish they could work out something with the music for the old shows so they can stream mostly intact. Replacements deserve it.

Listening to podcast on the most coked up SNL ever. I wonder if this is the episode where the rest of the original cast decided “GD. We’re burnt out.” In retrospect, probably not a great idea to build a thirteen minute sketch around Chevy, Laramie and Garrett at their cokeiest, a pissed off Bill Murray and a justifiably terrified Bert Convy.

I've developed a huge crush on Laraine Newman over the years and I don't know why. She was just good. Broad needed a sandwich but still.

That Week In SNL has a really fun Twitch channel, or they used to. Just SNL, SCTV, and Friday's reruns all the time.

Love all of the original SNL ladies but Larraine might be most attractive to me. And now her cute daughter is on Hacks. She also seems like most normal and well adjusted of original cast-members now despite being one of most messed up during original cast years.

Her and Curtin are normal people. Curtin always has been, though. Laraine is also maybe the best plastic surgery story I've seen for someone her age. She looks ten years younger than she is. I mean yeah she looks like GILF Wiig but still.

whoops. Jane seems normal but kind of WASPy and I would feel bored and awkward hanging out with her.

Larraine is living original cast member I’d want to hang out with too. Dan and Garrett could be fun but I also think a little of them in their 2023 forms could go a long way.

Jane was the only one not doing drugs. Lowkey has had a pretty consistent career, too, looking at SNL as a whole. I'd hang with her just because she's still got stories.

Dan is weird (legit weird; we can bond over the 'tism-level weird). He'd had better give me, like for free, some Crystal Head Vodka if it means I gotta hear about paranormal interdimensional aliens or something. Garrett is someone I'd piss off because I would wind up reminding him of how underutilized and coked out he was, not on purpose but man the funniest shit he ever did was freak Kirk Douglas out with the robot hallucinations.

If Gilda were around she'd be my number one because I love Gilda.

I wish Jenny Slate would check her DMs though because we'd hit off and be royalty.

Also, and this is probably one of those hot takes, but Charles Rocket could've been a star in the 90s. If the Farrelly Brothers had committed to casting him in There's Something About Mary, he'd have been one of the bigger comedy stars of the era. Two iconic movies by one of the decade's most iconic comic writer/directors back to back? He could've wound up a Sandler guy eventually or something with that.

I can remember commenting here on how great Larraine looked at the 40th anniversary show. Always had a crush on her going back to as a kid when she was in Problem Child. She was also in some kids show in the 80s that I watched where she played an usher at a movie theater.

She was just 23 when the show started in 75
