Cast was PISSED. When he went into business for himself and said "Live from New York it's the Eddie Murphy Show" they had enough of his shit.

And they followed up his firing with some of the squarest hosts in SNL history, which almost makes me question whether Ebersol secretly agreed with Michael O' Donoghue's mission to put the show out of its misery.

I'm pissed that they had three aged white actors named Robert host in the back half of the season and none of them were Robert Stack.

To be fair I can't off my head name three black actors named Robert of the time who could fit.

That Bill Murray announcement is crazy. The actual tape of the show has the news bulletin and I wasn't sure if it was a bit the first time I saw it, like some obtuse dated dark humor or something with a payoff later.

It took me years but once I got Michael O'Donoghue I loved him. That said I don't know how much I'd have dug his version of Scrooged

That was the only one I could think of. It's kinda funny how bad Lorne is with black cast members but how he's had a pretty wide range of black hosts.

Jesse Jackson calling Ebersol out on the air for a lack of diversity is another great moment that never is brought up.

It's kind of nuts that Ebersol didn't even attempt to find a replacement for Eddie Murphy for Season 10

Although I guess things were regressive enough in Reagan's America that maybe he thought Billy Crystal in blackface was a good enough substitute.

Am I crazy or did they edit in Eddie Murphy sketches into some season 10 reruns anyway?

Wasn't too bad an episode all things considered since Buck Henry did some heavy lifting but Elvis Costello is a top five moment.

Tonight is gonna be Cecily Strong's final episode as a cast member. Seems weird timing. Is she the first cast member to leave in the middle of a season since her former Weekend Update co-anchor Seth Meyers almost ten years ago?

Doesn’t even feel like middle of the season, being that she took the first few episodes off. Weird timing for sure.

She missed the first month so she can't have done more than 4 or 5 episodes this season. I wonder if her coming back at all this season was related to number of episodes she missed since 2020.

Edit- Looks like she did 6 episodes this season.

Yeah I'm thinking it might be a contractual thing since she missed so many shows.

She has dominated the shows she has been in this season so I'm sure this was planned.

Honestly she wore out her welcome to a degree but still an ultra solid performer.

Feels even more like a new era now.

Weekend Update was weird. It was like Jost got some bad news right before they went on air and he seemed agitated for most of the segment.

How the hell has the camera work been so bad these last couple seasons? They’re on the wrong person awhen someone else is talking at least once an episode, and it’s usually glaringly noticeable.

Jost was way way off on Update. Felt like someone pissed him off right before going in air.

Bowan Yang still hasn’t made me laugh yet.

Heidi’s good, but plays a lot of similar awful characters.

Sherman might be a little too weird to take over the lead female spot, but she’s been the MVP for me for most of the last couple seasons.

I’ll miss Cecily. She’s been my favorite female cast member… maybe ever? I know Kate got the Emmy love, but always preferred Cecily.

I really want to know where Blake fits overall. Segal is an all-timer, sure, but that's just Lorne Era and has some bias.

An argument for Blake is he was so aggressively prickish that they wrote him out of most of the show. Even with Segal, they tried vainly to incorporate him into the structure of the show. Segal doing a beer commercial blues cover of "Kung Fu Fighting" with Chris Rock and Tim Meadows is really up there with Deion Sanders for greatest unintentionally funny musical performance in SNL.

Another argument for Blake as worst SNL host is he wasn't relevant when he hosted. He even mentions he doesn't know why he's hosting in the monologue. Barretta was his last notable project and that had been off the year for years. It definitely seemed like rock bottom for the Ebersol era's poor choice hosts.

According to Greg Daniels in one of the SNL books Judge Reinhold was a nightmare to work with when he hosted in Season 13.

Bill Pullman berated the writers

Tina said McConaughey was awful.

Of course everyone hated Chevy (except Norm)

Paris Hilton was rock bottom for Tina Fey era celebrity gossip oriented SNL. I think her episode aired the same week that South Park had their episode parodying Paris Hilton.

In a pre social media era, besides Season 6, Idk if SNL was ever considered as uncool as it was in the post Will Ferrell/pre Kirsten Wiig, Andy Samberg, Jason Sudekis, Bill Hader era. Although intellectuals really hated the Bad Boys era ATT.
