There's a section when Mark Cerny is talking, touting the benefits of Pro for a 1080p TV. It's not real compelling, unless you want better AA, tessellation, reflections, maybe texture quality. The three games specifically shown there are Paragon, Shadow of Mordor, and For Honor.

Some sites are talking about frame rate improvements, but I'm almost certain they did not mention it during the presentation.

"However, even if you own an HDTV that does not support either 4K or HDR, PS4 Pro still provides a number of benefits. All games will run in 1080p resolution, and some will even run in a higher or more stable framerate. If you’re a gamer that wants to be at the forefront of innovation, PS4 Pro is for you."

"Some" games at a better frame rate isn't real encouraging.

The Pro also uses a lot of electricity (up to 310W). I could see it overheating a lot.

I might get a Slim next year.

I think this is developer discretion though. Sony isn't going to force devs to go back and patch older games to bring them up a notch for Pro (though they are making dev's, post-launch, ensure that the new games run on both PS4 and PS4 Pro). I think this is where gamers will have to do their due diligence to ensure that the older games they want to play on a Pro are in fact being upgraded and making it worth the purchase of a new system.

I'm going to hold off on this, tbh. I want to see what the benefits are for Skyrim, Fallout & ESO. I also wasn't even planning on getting a 4K TV until the holiday/boxing day season, anyway.

I honestly have no issues with the visual experience of my games. So I guess I'll hold tight.

Turned on the 4K/HDR (despite my Samsung not being a 4K/HDR) and maybe it's just a placebo effect but I swear it upscaled the image ever so slightly anyway. Haven't tried it on a streaming service yet though.

Just tried Netflix and there's definitely a noticeable improvement which is great to see for those who don't yet have 4K TVs. Slightly more contrast, blacks are a bit deeper, and colors a little more natural/vibrant.

My understanding is that HDR doesnt have anything to do with 4k, and that's what is causing your improvements. (I do not really understand HDR)

Anyone know if PSN switched over to October's free games today? I attempted to download Resident Evil before work so it'd be ready when I got home, but it was still showing September's games so I decided to download Journey in the mean time.

Looks like they are up now, yes. I think the update usually happens mid-late afternoon Eastern Time.

Though Resident Evil is showing 50% off for PS+ at the moment. Edit: Free now.

Cool, thanks for the update. Just started the remote download so it should be all set to go after work!

http://www.inquisitr.com/3601477/playstation-3-owners-can-now-claim-cash-from-sony-in-class-action-lawsuit/

Some owners of Sony PlayStation 3 can now claim money from a national class-action lawsuit that was filed against the the electronics giant, according to a report by Aaron Manmiit in Tech Times.
The lawsuit has been in the works since 2010, when Sony removed the OtherOS feature from the video game platform during a routine update. That feature had allowed users to reserve part of the space on the hard drives of so-called PlayStation 3 “fat” consoles so that they could install the Linux operating system on it, Manmiit explains.
The company attributed its decision to pull the feature to “security concerns.”
Two different classifications of Sony customers are eligible to claim money as part of the PlayStation 3 class action lawsuit.
“The first type is termed Consumer Class A, and this includes all customers in the United States who bought the Fat PlayStation 3 within the given dates of 2006 and 2010 and used the OtherOS feature to install a Linux OS on the video game console,” Manmiit explains. “The second type of customer, named Consumer Class B, includes all such customers but who did not use the OtherOS feature.”
You need a proof of purchase to be a part of the suit.

Fucking lame as fuck. October was pretty solid though, so they can't all be good I suppose.

I'm just kicking myself for not getting the Resident Evil 4, 5 and 6 bundle while it was on sale. My friend assured me it goes on sale a lot and I can probably grab it cheap again around Christmas.

Week 2 Dead sale is pretty good. I'm trying to choose between Alien: Isolation, DMC or Dead Island Definitive Collection. I've never played any of them.

I'm not sure I've ever played a DMC beyond the very first one. I didn't know there was a gritty reboot.

The new DMC is probably my favorite in the series. But that's also because I don't hold any kind of reverance towards the rest

SSD load time testing on a PS4 Pro. Short version: Little difference over an SSD on a regular PS4, and probably not a big enough difference over an HDD to justify the cost. Also, the stock 1 TB HDD in a Pro is often faster than the standard 500 GB HDD.

I bought NCAA football 14 for the Playstation 3 the other day. The menu for the PS3 feels primitive compared to the PS4. #firstworldvideogameproblems

I am not really familiar with any of those games. What is the consensus? Good crop for December?

More indies.....

I'm not asking for a AAA title every month or even every other month, but Sony needs to step it up.

VVVVVV is a great game if you're into the indie hard as nails platformer scene, but I have no clue about how competent the Vita version is, and I know Invisible Inc is loved by a lot of people. No clue about the rest.
