I'm strangely ok with the 1st straight up no, if it was just that and unfortunately it wasn't left at that. I remember some rumor that they had shot footage of Natalie Portman and Hayden to be inserted to the OT at a later date. I'm surprised they didn't do an intercut in which Vader has a force dream of Padme telling him to save Luke. Awww fuck I just gave Lucas an idea didn't I?

When the OT first hit DVD, there was a rumor of a scene which Jar Jar and Bail Organa watch the Death Star rise over the horizon just before Alderan is destroyed.

I can live with that, seeing Jar Jar get killed off.

All 3 OT movies playing at once:

The Original Star Wars Trilogy

I'm gonna need 2 hours to sit down to watch this. Already in the opening minutes, we've got the probe droid crashing into Hoth in ESB, while Threepio is staggering from a blast on the blockade runner in ANH. It'd be neat to see how things coordinate (even totally unrelated things like the previous example) over the 3 movies.

The Empire just flew up to our planet in a moon. Let's talk about this on the porch.

See, in his original idea, he was going to have Jar Jar go ME SA NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO while Bail just looked on thinking about if he was a shitty King but technology wasn't advanced enough for this to take place. Now it is.

I only found the original Star Wars trilogy to be decent with Empire being the best one. The only part of the new trilogy I rewatch is the long loop of Darth Vader yelling Noooooo. I never seen any LOTR, Indiana Jones, or Harry Potter movies. I grew up on gore, violence, Pee Wee, Roger Rabbit, and Ninja Turtles 1. Seruously, my parents let me watch Evil Dead at like age 5. My dad used to put on Halloween for me, my sister, and any unnfortunate playmates when we were like 3 just to traumatize us.

I feel like

for not seeing anything from those series, but I really don't have a large desire too se them.

I don't know why they're releasing movies on home formats on Fridays now, but it must stop.

Especially since it's not consistent. As far as I know, only Star Wars and X-Men First Class got a Friday release; everything else came out on Tuesday like normal.

They used to only do it occassionally for really special releases or if it was near a holiday or during s really crowded release period. This year they've had a ton though. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 had a Friday release and Transformers 3 will in a couple weeks but some random ones did earlier this year too like Arthur, Rio and Rango.

I don't usually mind it because usually I'm not in 'must have right away' mood for anything that releases on a Friday. But this was the exception so yeah fuck Friday releases. Left work for a bit so I could get my copy right when Bestbuy opened, but at least I got it. And a free t-shirt OMG.

I picked up my copy at Target. Got a pack of free lithographs, which are nice.

Unfortunately that's me.

But still, rather than people like me not buying STAR WARS, the easier solution to the problem is just to murder George Lucas.

That won't help. I'm sure that he has it in his will to be buried with the original footage of Star Wars and only the touch ups will be left behind.

The only real reason for me to buy the Blu Ray would be to check out the deleted scenes, but thanks to the magic of the internet...

You know, he's said that he had the whole thing planned out from Episode I - Episode VI...but, really, Lucas was making it up as he went along, wasn't he? He didn't decide to make Luke and Leia siblings until he was writing Return Of The Jedi, right?

Oh absolutely. Secret History of Star Wars goes into more detail, but Empire was a complete mess for him because it went over budget and over schedule as Irvin Kershner wanting kept doing slower, more thoughtful takes and producer Gary Kurtz did nothing to reign him in. With his marriage falling apart and completely stressed, Lucas just wanted to finish the series for now (keep in mind the plan was to prequels and sequels every three years until there were nine films) so he could take some time off.

Problem was that he introduced the concept of the "Other" in ESB. This was done to more or less put doubt in the audiences mind that maybe Luke wouldn't be the person to bring Vader and the Emperor and thus he could reasonable be killed off or incapacitated. If on the off chance this "Other" was going to be an actual character, it'd be some person on the other side of the galaxy who would probably be mentored by Luke in the sequels. But since Lucas probably figured he wouldn't do those he had to have this character show up in Jedi. Thinking the audience wouldn't be to keen on some big new character being shoved into the last film, Lucas said fuck it and made the "other" Leia, and made her Luke's sister to explain how she might have hidden abilities in the force.

That she never had a romance developed with Luke to the degree she did Han and that little scene of Luke communicating to her via the Force on Cloud City suggesting some deeper connection is just pure luck on Lucas' part.

In the deleted scenes, there are 'lost' shots of pilots during the Second Death Star battle. Just a few actors saying the same lines that would have been inserted later. Two of the pilots were female, but the second one looked like my Grandmother in a pilot's costume. Seriously, I know the Rebellion was supposed to be the underdogs, but to put a senior citizen in a fighter?

With all of the clean-up, and all of the new scenes and effects- why the ehll couldn't they fix the lightsaber effect when Luke was training on the Falcon? It STILL looks like crap!

This poster seems to be designed to not only be really ugly when compared to all of the other Star Wars posters in history but to also trick an entire new generation of Star Wars fans into thinking that Darth Maul matters.

They're bringing Maul back for the Clone Wars TV series, apparently betting that enough people still give a shit about him after 2005.

The only Star Wars I'd want to see in 3-D would be Empire, if only for the Asteroid chase. And maybe Episode 3 (and RotJ) for the big space battles.

I can't even WATCH episode 2 anymore without a commentary track covering up the horrible dialogue.

When Cameron was asked if any tweaks were made to 'Titanic,' a la George Lucas, Cameron responded, "George helps me with that. I see the example of what I don't want to do. I don't consider that a slam, I think he considers his movies a perpetual work in progress. For me, the problem is once you pull that thread, it all unravels. Where do you stop?"
