Somehow it doesn't surprise me that the official word of this would come from Apple, and not his family or something. I wonder if he was really doing poorly and was just holding on hoping to see the iPhone 5. "Here it comes here it comes here it comes....FOUR S? FUCK YOU" (dies)

Apple's tribute on their site is very classy. I'm wondering how the company will do without him. They're already on iffy ground in the smartphone war against Google, since Android devices are outselling iPhones over 2 to 1, and while they've made huge strides in personal computing (up to 24% from 11% several years ago, more compatibile devices, etc.) they're still a niche market.

I have always thought that the reason Android devices were outselling iPhone was because cell company employees were pushing them harder (I have seen documented cases of that occurring, though it's not a universal thing) and because there is really only one iPhone but there are like ten different phones that run some type of Android platform, thus making it easier to pick one of them. I also think that while not always the case, Android phones have been cheaper from the start (w/typical contract).
