Personally it's always hit as more Queensryche. 1998 was Operation Mindcrime, then TNA's long tenure actually coincided with Mindcrime 2.

Dubrow deserved that chokin'.

Everywhere Russo has gone, he's been super protected, and he doesn't really do anything when he isn't working somewhere. There's no way anyone would try to kick his ass. Maybe Cornette if he had two good knees and wasn't built like an over-ripe pear.

24 years ago today. I was there live, the last WWF show at Market Square Arena in Indianapolis. I believe this is also the debut of the "it doesn't matter what your name is" catchphrase.

Recent Between the Sheets nugget: When Del Wilkes was signed, he had come off a severe triceps tear. The doctor who approved his return was the same one who cleared Pillman to return on his wrecked ankle. Wilkes would end up tearing his triceps again only a few months later and basically ended his career.

Patriot debuted, got a huge push and PPV world title program with Bret and gets hurt all within two months. What a super quick stint for a top guy. The closest to him is probably Cain Vasquez?

Were there plans to bring Patriot back after his injury? I can't see him fitting into the Attitude Era without a gimmick change. I remember him doing interviews on WWE TV unmasked so maybe they were leaning towards him dropping it?

Cain Velasquez is different cause even though he made a few appearances for AAA and had (has?) aspirations of being a pro wrestler before his WWE appearance, he was treated as a celebrity guest star in that Brock feud.

Patriot's run was so dumb. I liked him but he felt extremely midcard and I never took him seriously as a top guy. Bad enough but it really kinda hurt Bret going from Austin and Taker to some new guy in a flag mask just as Taker/Shawn hit.

Patriot was a Cornette guy so after Corny lost power he was going nowhere even if he hadn't gotten hurt.

It felt so out of place in ‘97 WWF. Like they were trying to tear everything down about the Hulkamania/New Generation eras and all of a sudden you get this masked babyface straight out of 1984.

Honestly, it almost seems like Bret’s last World Title run was booked crappy on purpose except the Patriot stuff was weirdly kind of over. I think that’s more of a testament how over Bret was as a heel.

Bret took a major backseat during his last world title reigns especially after he agreed to go to WCW. Taker/Shawn got all the attention. He worked a midcard tag team flag match at the PPV before Survivor Series 1997.

Summerslam 2000 mentioned in other thread made me remember that in summer 2000 Stephanie was feuding with Lita, Jericho and had the love triangle all going on at the same time. Kreski was somehow able to weave all those stories together without it being too convoluted.

Also Kane turned heel that summer against Taker. He stays heel for the fall program with Jericho but turns back face in early 2001'and starts teaming with Taker again. I have zero recollection of how he turned face. He would remain face for the next two and a half years iirc

I remember a rumor from somewhere that Brakkus was going to be pushed hard and into a feud with Bret as fast as possible. I'm still not sure if I want to see that or not.

But I don't think I officially saw Brakkus at all until Brawl For All.
