The HOG neck break was '97. It was part of the build-up to LOD/Godwinns at Summerslam.

Mandela Effect. Their match at SummerSlam ‘97 was built around them trying to break Hawk’s neck then Hawk actually broke HOG’s neck on a house show during the post WrestleMania XIV European tour.

Long story, short: they worked themselves into a shoot.

If it was kayfabe I really wanna know what the Godwinns and LOD would've ended up doing the rest of the year.

I just remember it being 1997 because Shotgun was still relevant (comparatively) and HOG flipped out on PIG on Raw, then they started not wearing shirts, fired Hillbilly Jim, and won the titles (a bigger stepdown from the Hart Foundation or Austin and Shawn there never was). Uncle Cletus is in there somewhere.

He was also out of action for two months in Spring of ‘98 (after a match with LOD 2000!) which is why I was confused. I am guessing he probably reaggravated that neck injury and that might be where I got him getting the neck injury in ‘98 from?

He was retired for seven years before his weird comeback attempt in WWE Developmental in ‘06-‘07.

Roster was so snake bitten during that era that I can see why they kept giving randos like HOG, Flash Funk, and D-Lo Brown contracts. I just wish they got more TV time (or any TV time in case of HOG and Scorpio).

HHH brought him back as a thank you for the hog pen matches and the impact he had on his career. It's maybe my favorite thing HHH has done as a person.

WWF @ Anaheim, CA – Arrowhead Pond – November 21, 1998 (13,426)
Kurrgan & Golga defeated Brian Christopher & Scott Taylor
WWF European Champion X-Pac defeated Al Snow
Edge & Gangrel defeated Skull & 8-Ball after Paul Ellering’s interference backfired
WWF Light Heavyweight Champion Christian & WWF Woman’s Champion Sable defeated Marc Mero & Jackie when Sable pinned Jackie with the Sable Bomb
WWF IC Champion Ken Shamrock pinned WWF Hardcore Champion Mankind in a No DQ match with a belly to belly suplex
Steve Blackman pinned the Blue Blazer with a roll up
Val Venis pinned Goldust with a roll up
WWF Tag Team Champions the Road Dogg & Billy Gunn defeated D-Lo Brown & Mark Henry after Gunn hit D-Lo with one of the belts
Steve Austin defeated Kane, the Undertaker, and WWF World Champion the Rock in a non-title match by pinning Rock with the Stunner; the Big Bossman was the guest referee but Earl Hebner made the pinfall

This would be the card in question. Not sure this story totally checks out. Last Anaheim show was also a 4 way but Mankind was in it instead of Rock.

I think he was garbage in the ring but it always sounded like everyone liked him. That and being one of the most steadily pushed guys of the New Generation makes me wish he had a better run afterwards. He's the epitome of a comedy guy you can have on the b or c-shows with no problem for years. We should be reevaluating him because of a random Brock dark match or something from 2001.

Was Sammy, the trans friend of Chyna who seduced Mark Henry for revenge that one time, anyone of note?

And he seems the rare Attitude Era guy that just quietly transitioned into a normal life after wrestling. Aside from that weird TNA cameo (where you didn’t even see his face), it seems like he was done literally just as the ‘90s wrestling boom ended. No awkward ‘01-‘03 gimmick change.

Well besides Naked Mideon but that was ‘00 anyways.

Naked Mideon was funny the first couple of times when it was just a straight nonsequitor (but I love nonsequitor humor). It was when he became a real wrestler with matches and titles that the problem happened.

You know, it would've made a lot of sense for Naked Mideon to turn and join RTC than anyone else. It isn't like they could be worse, plus I feel like he and Stevie would've had some great chemistry together.

RTC is kind of a missed opportunity in that it would've always been shit but it could've at least felt like it wasn't just thrown together. No one in it made sense except for Stevie. Val should've been going up the card, or at least transitioned into real feud with Eddie or something. Godfather and D-Lo were a real solid team, perfect for opening shows and getting a pop. Buchanan should've just been a badass because Buchanan rules. Ivory's whole tenure is "she deserved better."

Actually I wouldn't have minded Lo-Down as the RTC tag team, thinking about it now. Good matches and perfect characters to shift into that gimmick. Lo-Down, Mideon, and Debra (or Terri; the heat should've been in the hot chick being covered up instead of Ivory just being a bitch to people).

Hardcore Holly as the pious, hypocritical conservative bully could've worked for RTC.

Bradshaw too for that matter but they were intent on keeping APA together for way past its expiration date. Presumably cause no one wanted to put Ron Simmons out to pasture.

I love the APA so I'm not complaining about that. I still think they deserved more time to fuck around with the TLC crew just to see what happens.

Holly and Billy Gunn would work. They should've been paired together anyway. Hardcore Ass would've made money.

Holly and Gunn teamed up to challenge for the tag titles on a PPV in '04 I think. That period where they were trying to fill out single brand PPVs with a limited roster.

Both those teams had potential. Hardcore Ass was the kind of team needed, just grizzled vets who beat the shit outta people. Almost fills the APA void. Haascore has the same basic principle but Haas is the dullest guy there is.
